Crosby is good to go.

I think...

I absolutely love the Hagel - Cirelli - Konecny 4th line. Bennett the 13th F, as he should be.

So Doughty just waltzes in and bumps Sanheim's to 7? Get real. On another note, I love our coaching staff. GO CANADA GO!

That has more to do with handedness than anything else.

So we’re gonna win with a 36 yr old,Crosby, 35 yr old doughty, 36 yr old Marchand, without our best 2 way d man in Piet, an almost 33 yr old mark stone, Mitch marner who has been pathetic when it comes to clutch situations, and binnington who has been league avg 3 of the last 4 years against the most talented American squad ever assembled all in their prime? Fat chance!

You complain about the older players but then hail “our best 2 way d man” in 35 year old Pietrangelo? He’s not even close to that title, and tbh probably shouldn’t have received an invite even if he was willing to play.

Canada really went heavy on the 2-way forwards up front. part of it is the two way mentality they have adopted after the 2006 debacle but also to compensate for goaltending worries IMO.

Ranking the forwards on the team by points/game since the start of the 2022-23 season:

1. MacKinnon: 60.83%
2. Marner: 60.36%
3. Stone: 59.28%
4. Marchand: 58.11%

Ranking the forwards on the team by points/game over the last 3 playoffs:

1. McDavid: 1.792
2. Crosby: 1.667 (but hasnt been there the last 2 playoffs)
3. Marchand: 1.240

11. Cirelli: 0.471
12. Hagel: 0.471
13. Konecny: N/A (hasnt been in the playoffs the last 3 years)

Ranking the forwards on the team by 5v5 goal differential over the last 3 playoffs:

1. Jarvis: 66.42%
2. Marner: 64.20%
3. McDavid: 63.50%
4. MacKinnon: 61.93%
5. Crosby: 58.91% (but hasnt been there the last 2 playoffs)
6. Marchand: 55.47%
7. Point: 51.91%
8. Bennet: 51.37%
9. Reinhart: 51.96%
10. Stone: 49.65%
11. Hagel: 49.07%
12. Cirelli: 41.37%
13. Konecny: N/A (hasnt been in the playoffs the last 3 years)

Goal differential can certainly be affected by goaltending in your own net but considering almost all these guys face up against the highest of QoC, very good numbers overall. Outside of a couple of outliers (McDavid, Crosby, Marchand), scoring falls off pretty hard in the playoffs but it does that generally.

Really hard to play against team overall.

The Piet omission is meaningless I suppose. But make no mistake about it, Canada is going to get their lunch fed to them. I hope I’m wrong. Canada needed a golden goal from a prime Crosby to beat an American team whose top 4 scoring forwards were parise, Kane, Malone and langenbruner and their 2 top d scorers were suter and rafalski, let that sink in.

Let what sink in lol. This is a completely incoherent thought process. How do two completely different teams playing 15 years ago have anything to do with these two teams? How is this comparison logical in the slightest?

Bennett had a big dry spell. But the team as a whole was kind of just going through the motions at times. They all were a bit off. The last several games he (and the team) have ramped it up some. Bennett has been playing more like the way that got him named to the team. He is much better as a center, though, but Canada is so damm loaded there. He hasn’t played on the wing since Calgary.

Your point is fine since the Americans have a great well-rounded team.

But they will also need to figure out how to game plan against MacKinnon, McDavid, and Makar.

Canada arguably has the three best players in the tournament.

That’s true, but in hockey, having the 3 best players isn’t a big advantage like a QB, pitcher or nba player. When it comes to hockey, I look at it, the winner will be the team with the strongest weakest link.

Lately Team Canada roster selectors (4-Nations, World Jr.) and coaches think they're a little bit smarter than those on the other teams and it comes back to bite them in the ass. Do a better job upstairs and don't be so stupid and stubborn if you don't want to look foolish and lose.

You could nitpick one or two selections on this team and the early day the roster had to be named had some influence in that, but by and large if this team loses it won’t be because of the roster. The WJC on the other hand was insanity, leaving off probably 7/8 players in favour of guys who has no business being there
