Oh wow, reporting to Anaheim is aggressive. Cool, something interesting to watch

Was just going to say that. It's nice seeing some young prospects coming in to get a cup of coffee in the NHL. Could even see LaCombe next month as well. Gives more reasons to watch these games other than watching our current kids like Mac and Z on the roster trying to take strides.

I'm not sure how much I love that Verbeek went out and publicly said Nesterenko would be signing an ATO with San Diego this year, then this happened instead. Not bothered by the ELC itself, but it's another log on the fire of "can GMPV actually negotiate?"

Did not expect him to come straight to Anaheim. Just a pit stop before heading to San Diego?

Probably needed a 3-year deal to happen with this year being a bargaining chip to sign with the Ducks. Essentially, it's a two-year contract by burning off a year of his ELC by playing just one NHL game and could be sent down to San Diego. It'll be pretty bold to see Nesterenko stay with the NHL club for the rest of the season b/c we haven't even tried calling up any forward prospect up to the NHL level in Groulx, Regenda, Tracey, or Perreault. It can't hurt to try, but also money, term, and roster spot isn't much of a concern for the Ducks.

It might be less negotiation and more about trying to improve our dismal forward group.

The Gulls seem to be turning things around so might not want to mess up a good thing down there.

More Verbeekisms

"The next step is to become contenders." The proceeds to blow up the team.
"This season is about the youth development and not concerned about wins and losses." Then a quarter into the season said he expected the team to be at .500 with this roster.
"Players adapting takes around Christmas time before they feel comfy." The team didn't start improving until McTavish became a top-6C on Jan 4th as well as the team finally playing on the same page.
"Klingberg was trying too hard to start the season." Then says team wasn't trying hard to compete at the start of the season.

Now...
"We're signing Nesterenko on an ATO with San Diego and start his ELC next season." Then Nesterenko signs an ELC and heads to Anaheim.

Wait... adding more talent to the team will mess up the team? The Gulls are turning things around b/c they've added more talent, veteran talent that pushes down both Regenda and Tracey down the lineup as third and fourth liners.

We're at 49/50 contracts now, and #50 will be going to Lacombe, so we won't be able to sign any other free agents to burn an ELC year (unless we dump a contract somehow).

I was suprised this was not the initial plan with Nesterenko instead of the ATO business.

Well we land here anyway and get to see what he can do at NHL speed. I will be suprised if he doesn't end up spending some time with the Gulls. For now, I would not be suprised if he could actually beat some guys for spots.

Reports are he was a tough sign, so I was also surprised this wasn't the initial plan

Seems very unlikely he plays any NHL games this season, unless that was part of his bargaining? I think more than likely he'll get a chance to practice with them to give the coaches and himself a better idea of what he needs to work on.

Was thinking more like a chemistry thing.
