If he can play in the NHL at all, then the Klingberg experience wasn’t a total bust.
That’s how I feel. Give the kid a shot, can’t hurt , he has potential.

Yall are weird. Probably didnt want another Thrun/Schultz situation so enticed him to start in Anaheim. NBD.
It’s not replacing Klingberg.Replacing Klingberg is a pretty low bar.
John
Reaching the cap floor and getting an asset also? It’s not replacing Klingberg.
It’s getting any return for the 5.5M or so they spent.
Nesterenko might disagree with this assessment.Nesterenko, Mintyukov, Michkov, Galimov, & Buteyets. sound very nice together. The next Russian 5
I knew he was American, but still has the Russian blood!Nesterenko might disagree with this assessment.
Wild News July 21, 2019
ST. PAUL -- You might be surprised to learn that Nikita Nesterenko hails from Brooklyn, New York.
You also might be surprised to learn that despite Nesterenko's parents immigrating from Russia in the 1990s, well before the 17-year-old was born, he doesn't speak much Russian.
PV is going to be high on any prospect that he acquires. What do you expect him to say, "We got a really bad player in this trade"?Wasn't PV high on Helleson last year too? The next Josh Manson?
Manson wasn’t an effective NHL player until he was 23, and even then was at the bottom of the ice time. Helleson turns 22 in 2P days, he’s still got some time.Wasn't PV high on Helleson last year too? The next Josh Manson?
Oh, I'm still hoping for the best. But it sure seems like everybody has been pretty disappointed on Helleson's season so far in SD.Manson wasn’t an effective NHL player until he was 23, and even then was at the bottom of the ice time. Helleson turns 22 in 2P days, he’s still got some time.
…he says hopefully.
Well, in the case of Helleson, it was more like he was the most valuable piece in the deal and the 2nd was a bonus. And now It's like oh, we got way more than a 4th for Kling, we got this really awesome prospect too.PV is going to be high on any prospect that he acquires. What do you expect him to say, "We got a really bad player in this trade"?
I'm willing to somewhat write off this year for Helleson given nearly everyone in San Diego is having a bad year, which compounds things. Plus, it's his first pro year. Next year should be more telling in what we have with him.Oh, I'm still hoping for the best. But it sure seems like everybody has been pretty disappointed on Helleson's season so far in SD.
One must also keep in mind, I believe, Helleson was the 6th rated prospect in the Avs less than highly regarded system. And I believe somebody said Nesterneko was the Wild's 21st rated prospect. By all means I'm still hoping for the best, but hearing that PV was high on these guys doesn't quite get past the snooze level on my excitement meter.

I hope you’re right about his development. As I’ve stated previously, I’m not criticizing these players or writing them off. I’m merely pointing out why my excitement meter has not gotten past snooze yet.I was very confused when Helleson transferred over from the Avs to the Ducks that he was more highly rated than Thrun and LaCombe. Here's the The Hockey News' Future Watch ranking from last year (I bought the mag, that's my source):
1. C McTavish2. G Dostal3. D Zellweger4. RW Perreault5. D Helleson <--- newly added6. LW Tracey7. D LaCombe8. RW Pastujov9. D Thrun10. D Moore
I'm disappointed in Helleson because not only did Verbeek hype Helleson up, but the scouting media also did too. That was the standard I reset my thoughts on Helleson.
Feb 7: 42 games, 12 pts, and -19 ratingFeb 8 - Mar 16: 11 games, 3 pts, +10 rating
He's playing top pairing with MDZ as of late and his plus/minus rating has improved. Granted, when reading the SD recaps from Defend the Nest, it's MDZ's name that pops up often. At least Helleson will finish out the year with a proper vet to learn from. Next year, though, might give us a better assessment on Helleson's talent when we get a slew of defensemen coming over to the pro side.
The Manson age thing does have relevance, but Manson is also a 6th round, overager pick. Helleson is a 2nd round pick. The expectations out of Manson was very low to begin with from the media and fans. The expectations of Helleson was pimped up high. Still, Helleson is young and d-men take time to develop. I want him to develop too b/c if he succeeds, then the org succeeds and we are closer to becoming playoff bound again.

But actually, this whole damn year hasn’t gotten past snooze either. The lottery will be more exciting than the whole season. But way too exciting for me to want to watch. Watching those cards flip over is like waiting for the click while playing Russian roulette. Too much stress. Especially this year with the stakes so high.
Oh, I'll be fully aware of the results shortly thereafter. Not sure I want to be around here if we don't win.You could just follow along on the HFboards instead of watching the actual draft. It's much more fun shooting the breeze this way.
