Don’t really care. 5pm would be fine. 7pm is preferred, but neither is an issue to me.

Also it would be comical seeing the meltdown of Western Canadian team fans when they have to play their home games at the 3pm lol

I’d really like to see Saturday night games moved to 5pm for various reasons

  • As a dad with little ones we can watch the game together and still have them in bed at a normal time (7pm starts give us maybe 1 period max)
  • Increased viewers - a great chance to get all generations watching
  • Those in attendance get home at a much better time - again better for families
  • When I was younger it would have been great to watch the game with the boys and then head out for the night
  • Families can watch together far easier
  • Bars and restaurants showing games will see more business as more people will eat at their regular dinner time

What do you guys think about it?

Hockey Night In Canada is already an institution where families can watch together and bars and restaurants make a killing starting at 7 pm prime time. The 5 pm time slot would solve a temporary scheduling problem for young families but they grow out of that when the little ones stay up later. So this is a hard no for me since it's catering to a very specific demographic.

Although I will say I have recently learned the joys of the early bird. But HNIC? No way, stays at 7 pm.

I have lived in EST, CST and MST. By far best was the 6pm start

Offered the perfect balance of what people are describing here, (as long as you like eating during the game). I could make it the feature of the night with the subsequent game or go out afterward, and i could get a good night rest if I worked early the next day

Stupid idea.

Your kids are your problem. And generations of parents have managed to let their kids watch some or all of the game then put them to bed. Why should everyone else change for you?

  • Increased viewers - a great chance to get all generations watching

Again, people have managed to watch for decades.

  • Those in attendance get home at a much better time - again better for families

I've never heard anyone complain about this before. Why are you so convinced that your family issues should dictate what other people do? Lots of people want to make a night of it - dinner, game, bar.

  • When I was younger it would have been great to watch the game with the boys and then head out for the night

Did you turn into a pumpkin or something? Did you have an 11pm curfew from mommy? The rest of us managed to watch the game and go out for the night. Often we watched while out for the night.

  • Families can watch together far easier

How many times are you going to offer up the same stupid reason?

  • Bars and restaurants showing games will see more business as more people will eat at their regular dinner time

Yeah, because bars are suffering when people buy food and drinks after 7pm.

I think this is the dumbest idea ever, all based on your erroneous belief that everyone else should change their behaviour to accommodate your family.

I'm fine with 7pm, but wouldn't mind a few more afternoon games sprinkled throughout the season.

Would be nice to have 7pm puck drops though and the pregame pieces start ahead of that, hell even make it a 7:05 regularly

I don't see a problem, I'd like to see some 1pm games too, Im watching the Wings vs Lightning now and it started at 1pm. Thr Devils are playing the Canadiens now, but it's blacked out in my area.

Definitely not - moved to Vancouver ~20 years ago but am still a Leafs fan, 4pm starts Vancouver time are already too early, 2pm would be even worse.
Lived in BC in the past, and now Alberta (and Ontario a few times, and Nova Scotia) and I like baseball start time in BC and like hockey start time in Alberta.

In my younger days in Ontario a 5:00 PM start time would have left plenty of time to go out after the games.

I'm good with the current start time.
