Confirmed with Link: Ducks re-sign Trevor Zegras (3 years, $5.75M AAV)

Based on play styles I like

Carlsson + terry
Zegras + mctavish

Wish they put Leo with Terry yesterday. My only thing is both guys have a tendency to want to be puck carriers so on one end I worry about chemistry not being there. On the other hand, if Terry's penchant for dangles and long holds forces Leo to adapt and spend the time working on getting to lanes, then it could be a good thing.

Ya my original post is strictly stylistically…. No actual evidence or stats to back those pairs.

Zegras and carlsson just lean heavier into play making

Where mctavish and terry are better goal scorers/snipers(terry to a lesser extent)

I like the pairs of T with Carlsson and McTavish with Z. I do wonder who ends up on the wing. McTavish could end up like Stone. I generally have always preferred my wingers as shooters and my center as the distributor.

As in Mark?

I mean maybe. He's definitely not there yet, but if he can be a better skating Mark Stone I'm all for it. Still think it's better to just transition Z to the wing.
For sure. I'm guess I'm more partial to Z at center. I thought his play got significantly better in his first season once he transitioned. It will be interesting to find out.

Guess I'm in the minority. I don't think Z with McTavish would work at all. I'd much rather see Terry on McTavish's wing.

If Z puts up 60-80 Points in the next 2 years and has good defensive numbers to go with it.. Than you extend him for another 6 years..

I think the best option for the present is give Zegras a chance to prove he belongs in the center role through a preseason game or two and some regular season tilts.

Right now there's nothing overly harmful running Z-Mac-Carlsson on the first three lines respectively and ease Carlsson in. But if the team is deadset on moving Z to the wing, I don't see the point in delaying.

I agree with this, for what it’s worth. If I believe (and I do) that the next two years are about development, I think it’s far more beneficial to build Z up in what his natural position is and work on his flaws as a young player than it is to have someone like Strome taking his minutes there, who basically has the same flaws Z does on the dot and in his own end, but is more of a finished product and doesn’t elevate his teammates the way Zegras can.

Great deal for both sides. Important that Pat set a precedent but I also feel like Z got a bit more out of them than they were ideally wanting. I’d wager that there are no hard feelings.

I see it as a good faith contract for both sides, and it will help in negotiations 2-3 years down the road.

I think Verbeek is being very careful with Drysdale given this teams D prospect pool.

Terry is great, lol….

As if you needed any more reason not to listen to this jackass.

Edit: Not knocking DuxNPux. Frank Seravalli deleted his tweet (or X post?).

Seravalli just put out his Pacific Division preview podcast, where he says "as of this morning" they're not any closer on Zegras and Drysdale. Add to that his whining about how what the Ducks paid Killorn should piss off Z and Drys, which shows a fundamental lack of understanding of the business...

He's also the same guy who really tried to push the "gay slur" narrative from Getz in the playoffs years back, and made no effort to clarify what was said when people assumed it was one thing and not what it actually was.

Guy is a complete hack who has nothing noteworthy to offer either as far as commentary or insider stuff.

Seravalli's rhetoric on his podcast seems overly negative to me, and i feel like he enjoys pushing narratives of turmoil and drama within the room and between execs and players. he's like the local news of hockey reporters (negative tone to everything).

He just got the team a nice friendly deal where zegras also cant complain. He’s done well today
I think he's done better than most around here are giving him credit for. Today is a good example of that with the Zegras contract.

That being said, it's just funny to me that the dude has such a hard time simply toeing the line in his media availabilities.
