I could see it being a bit higher AAV but you might be right. It’s hard to put a value on him right now after the injury.

I think this is perfect from a team view. You have 3y now to have a pretty good feeling what MacT, Carlsson and Z will become and you can react on it. If Z goes 8y then it covers a good age as well. Good deal from the Ducks side. I just hope they are all fine with the outcome and there are no regrets on Z' side.

His Injury is really a risky one.. Especially as a defensemen.. you take hits constantly on that shoulder.. VB as a player himself. Knows this.. He is being very cautious

Yeah, so long term was never a discussion for either party. People assume that Verbeek wanted to do a long term deal like a Caufield, Boldy, Hughes type and only Zegras camp wanted a bridge.
I honestly think drafting Leo threw a monkey wrench into that. It makes sense, what if Leo becomes the Ducks 1C and Mac the 2C?

I think Leo and Mac will end up being interchangeable between 1 and 2 C. It will likely come down to chemistry between their wingers and then matchups with the opposing team.
We have the possibility to have an elite 1/2 punch at center for a decade + to come.
Verbeek has even said he anticipates Leo and Mac down the middle and Zegras moving to wing. It's not a given but it seems that is the path these players will take.
If its me, Im starting the Z to wing transition as soon as he hits the ice tomorrow (or whenever he shows up to camp). Leo in my mind is already a Duck and will start at 3C and will be a top 6 C by years end.

Good signing. Verbeek continues doing an excellent job.
That's the pairings I like too. Carlsson, Terry, and Z are all pass first, but Terry has gotten more of that finisher mentality recently and is probably going to be the better goal scorer between he and Z. McTavish is the most natural goal scorer of the 3, but is an underrated passer with Z being an underrated scorer. Just need the right compliment on both of their wings, unfortunately 5/6 of our best forwards are left shot players. I wonder if they'll let Z carry the play offensively and have McTavish more to the right side on offense so he set up to shoot on his off side.

Should be a great top 6.. Vatrano and Strome third Line. With SIlverberg
I still wish Verbeek would have started the negotiations earlier, but it’s hard to argue with results. He’s done well on these contracts. Happy to have Z back!
Depending on how Silf looks/his health, Jones-Strome-Vatrano could work too. Jones had flashes at the end of last season, if he can be consistent he might be a good 3rd line player. Jones-Lundestrom-Gaucher could be a very tough line to play against in the future, depending on how they develop.

Very well said.. Jones is younger and might work better for harder forechecking teams.
