Agreed. Was a big, important, nice first step, but that's all it is if they fall flat.

If only that were true. I was in the minority for thinking that.

Joe Thornton is going to the HHOF, and it's not because of his goal scoring.

The problem with Kopitar, is he doesn't provide the amount of assists needed to be a sub 20G scorer yearly.

Regardless, the team gutted out a win today, good times.

I asked the question once "what if Kopitar had 90 assists and 0 goals?" and people were still upset. Production is production, imo.

I think the criticism to some degree is warranted because we need him to do more, but at least he isn't just padding his stats.

He doesn't have 90 assists. He has 27. To go with 6 goals. 33 goals generated for 14 million is not ok. If he has 50 assists right now it would be a different story, but he doesn't.

And Sad Kesler. Aye Pobriceto.

Kopitar played better today, 2 assists and 4 SOG. Much better from him.

The Kings need this type performance nightly from him, here on out, or it's no playoff's.

This is why I will not take anyone who bags on Kopitar for goal production seriously.

Really?

That comment is a bridge too far.

Yes, it was an unselfish play. NO, plays like that are not the reason Kopitar has 6 goals this season.

I don't know what debating the etiquette of an empty net goal means. Kopitar is such a nice guy to pass. Oh, he should've shot it, to get himself going. I think we're all just fanatical.

Because he passed up an ENG? 6 goals is good for 14 million? Sure thing.

Is there a reason 7 goals and 28 assists is better than 6 goals and 29 assists?

Is the player who scored 1 goal and one assist more productive than someone with 2 assists? Less productive than someone with 2 goals?

You can argue the aggregate of Kopitar's production all you want. He needs to produce offense more. But harping on goals alone is petty, narrowminded, and to me sounds like someone with less understanding of the game.

Neither is good enough for a 1C making $14M.

I'm still amazed they beat both the Hawks(more outscored them, I think it was 28-23 or something in 7 games) and Rangers with 0 goals from Kopitar. Out of all the crazy numbers from the 2014 playoffs, that one is up there pretty high on the list for me.

Lol. 4.5 months of words for Jonathan Quick in one day. Even got a smile out of him when Corey Perry was mentioned. Welcome back, Quickie.

He was scoring at the Malkin Conn Smythe pace before the Hawks series. That's a credit to the work Toews/Hossa were doing on him imo. He just looked like a shell by the Rangers series. Going thru Thornton, Getzlaf, Toews will do that to you I suppose. And teams went out and made trades to respond to that, the ultimate compliment.

Stats from 2014 playoffs:

Not sure how this stat is generated, but I think this is your answer:

Goals Created
1. Marian Gaborik • LAK 9.7
2. Jeff Carter • LAK 9.4
3. Justin Williams • LAK 9.2
4. Anze Kopitar • LAK 8.3
5. Patrick Kane • CHI 7.5
6. Jonathan Toews • CHI 7.0
7. Martin St. Louis • NYR 6.2
8. Drew Doughty • LAK 6.2
9. Brandon Saad • CHI 5.9
10. Ryan McDonagh • NYR 5.7

So you ignored my third paragraph which says the same thing, and you have no explanation for why quibbling over passing up a goal to let someone else score isn't petty. Thank you for answering.

Sutter complimented Budaj tonight. Incomprehensible. Who's impersonating Sutter today?

And then Sutter insults a reporter, calling out a "dumb question". Back to normal.

Sutter at his best

Reporter : "Would you ever tell Carter not to fight Kesler" ?

Sutter "That's a really stupid question"...

Sutter on Quick: "It was good for the team/fans/NHL to see Quick back in net". "He is the emotional leader of this team" "Great to have him back".

Passing is fine if you have skilled wingers. If your wingers have stone hands, you're better off trying to shoot it yourself if you're Kopi.

No one was harping on his goal vs overall point production per se.

His overall production this season sucks. I think I will just say I would give you the same response Sutter gave the reporter asking the question about Carter fighting Kesler.

Gaborik kept showing up in front of the net. I think 1, maybe 2 of the 14 goals he scored was outside of 5 feet from the goalie. That was a gritty version of Gaborik.

Yeah I remember he ended up on his ass after almost every goal. That means he was going to the tough spots. Don't see much of that anymore.

I agree he needs to contribute more offensively, because his defensive contributions haven't outweighed his lack of offense.

But you are either in denial or being dishonest if you think people aren't harping on his goal vs. point production. That's my beef with some of these arguments.
