The team that made the playoffs last year with the most regulation losses was Minnesota, with 33. The Kings are already at 27, with 21 games left to play.

They might need close to a 2012 playoff level sprint to 16 wins to get the job done. The quicker they get to 4 wins every 4 games from here on out the better. At the very least, and this is if they get help, they have to win 4 out of every 7 games. The season starts Monday.

Is there a reason 7 goals and 28 assists is better than 6 goals and 29 assists?

Is the player who scored 1 goal and one assist more productive than someone with 2 assists? Less productive than someone with 2 goals?

You can argue the aggregate of Kopitar's production all you want. He needs to produce offense more. But harping on goals alone is petty, narrowminded, and to me sounds like someone with less understanding of the game.

You're being slightly ridiculous. Kopitar doesn't have 6 goals and 60 assists. If he did, you'd see quite a different tune around here. It's just easier to say "can't believe he only has 6 goals" as an indictment to how offensively inept he has been all season, but if for some reason you need people to spell out "can't believe he only has 6 goals and 28 assists" to underscore his lack of offense, then ok.

So you ignored my third paragraph which says the same thing, and you have no explanation for why quibbling over passing up a goal to let someone else score isn't petty. Thank you for answering.

No one is doing that.

Unselfish play by Kopitar.

Real unselfish play by Kopitar there. If I was him, I would have skated the puck over the blue line and shot it.

Unselfish by Kopi, who really needs any type of goal, to get Carts his 30th.

Wow, great win. I had to stop watching not long after carts got popped. I check the game log 4-1 wtf, I miss 4 kings goals, thats like 6 games worth of scoring, mildly pissed, but great win.

It looked like a very heavy game from both teams, both were hitting to hurt. Really entertaining. Hopefully its a corner turned.

Just got home , very good game by kings and quickie, he excels in staying on pucks in front to the point of being feet outside the crease , my seats are on the goal line where quick is twice and today was a treat , kempe was hurt in that hit hope he proves to be tough enough to shake it off he is starting to play really well and doesn't need a set back ".....

Bummed to hear about Kempe. Can we stop with the ****ing injuries already? It seems like every other game a guy is getting banged up.

I've seen Perry do a lot of stupid things, but that tomahawk chop directly down on to Quick was an intent to injure.

Totally spineless thing to do. That was one of the biggest ***** moves I've seen all year.

Jonathan Quick returns after being out the whole season. Kings decisively win an intense game against their most hated rival. Majority of post-game comments? Kopitar scoring woes :dunno:

Because it's true. Nothing wrong with what he did, giving Carter the puck, but hey, if you have to get an EN goal to get the feeling back, you do it. I was as surprised as anyone he didn't get the layup goal.

Wish Calgary was the first half of the back to back and not the second.

Tuesday is a huge game, and borderline must win if they don't come away with anything vs. Minnesota on Monday.

Anyone know why they got rid of the 50th anniversery logo at center ice and replaced it with the regular one?

I thought I heard something on a podcast about getting rid of it after the All-Star Game. Don't know why, maybe everything was leading up to that event and now we're getting back to normal.

We both know that's not true. Even when he led the team in scoring last year, the year before, the year before, the year before, and the year before that, people say Kopitar doesn't shoot enough to score more goals, and "lulz time for his annual vacation of not scoring goals this time of year." Maybe you would be singing a different tune. I'm not going to pretend to know your thoughts, but you seriously can't think that everyone would be singing a different tune. It has been an ongoing criticism year after year.

No one is doing that.

Are you kidding me? It's the post I quoted and responded to, that you responded to, that started this entire exchange.

I would rather Kopitar have scored that, honestly...

Good win though.

Not going to lie; when Quick did the full splits on an early save (around 4 minutes in) I was a little worried.
Happy for the win but they are still 2 wins behind Calgary.

Thanks for the good vibes, EbonyRaptor.

Look at it this way. Quick gave us a boost yesterday and the Kings scored more than 1 goal so we still have a chance to make the playoffs. (Hey, Quick was NHL Network's first star of the night.) However, we're 3 and 4 points behind Nashville and Calgary and they are both on a tear. Gaborik is MIA, Brown can only offer secondary scoring, and Kempe is a brand spanking new rookie. Yeah, we may get a little help at the Trade Deadline, but essentially it's up to Kopitar to provide the first-line scoring we so desperately need to get into the playoffs. If the team had lost yesterday, we'd be talking about who is leaving in the summer.

I remembered reading an old interview where Kopitar admitted that everyone was begging him to shoot more. In looking for that old interview on LAKingsInsider.com, I found another one that gave Coach Sutter's view on the subject. Sutter appreciated Kopi's defensive game, his team-first mentality, and his number of assists. He did, though, want him to shoot more.

His assists or his distribution hasn’t dropped at all, if you look at it. It’s his goals that dropped last year. Hey, with Kopi, you just want him to be a little more almost selfish. Shoot more and beat the guy more – that sort of thing.

Anyone have a link to the Corsi distribution for this game? Just curious what it looks like from a statistical perspective.
