Well realistically the return for a SnT would probably be 1st+Tolvanen/Fabbro+ younger roster player in a sign and trade deal.

I am just not sure that the Sens would value a roster player coming back all that highly and I don't think Poile would love to give up a somewhat decent roster player in the midst of a playoff push so I could easily see him give up both instead.

We will see.
I just don't think that a signed Duchene on pace for 90points+ will be available for a late 1st + a non-blue chip prospect.
I believe there would be something else of decent value to be thrown in.

@Armourboy:

I am not a Sens fan. I am an Avs fan. So ultimately I don't really care what the return ends up. I just believe that in the unlikely event that it turns out to be a SnT, the ballgame changes completely valuewise.

Just like it did for Turris. Or did anyone believe that a rental Turris was worth Girard, Kamenev + 2nd?
Not even close...
Eh Kamenev we were looking to move on from anyways, so was a 2nd line center worth a 2nd+ Girard for us? Yeah at the time probably.

But Poile isn't going to throw Fabbro in there, I think he has bigger plans coming down the road he needs him for so he won't do it.

Really? Anytime Nashville is heavily rumored to target someone they tend to get him. Johansen, Fisher, Turris were all like this. Hell, I thought Simmonds would be this year's obvious acquisition. I think Duchene to Nashville is a foregone conclusion.

Thats kind of a funny statement in the Matt Duchene thread :D.
I mean he kind of was heavily rumored to go to NSH and ended up in OTT, didn't he ? :P

@ Armourboy:

I have 0 idea about what Poile plans or wants to do.
I am just saying that if (!) a Duchene extension is part of the trade, getting him only for Tolvanen/Fabbro would personally surprise me.

A signed Duchene should have more value than that. But it is Dorion we are talking so who knows...

I just don't believe that Poile would rather give up one of his cheaper young (good) roster players instead of Fabbro.

Ultimately I just believe that Poile will trade for Duchene without a SnT agreed to (after getting a wink from his agent) and it will cost them around Tolvanen + 1st.

I think the Sens will insist on a 1st in any deal and Dater clearly has heard something. He has a couple of sources and the fact that he did not even know the kid (not surprising but shows that he is not merely making up stuff) and misspelled his name makes me believe its legit that its likely that Tolvanen will be involved as well.

Should make for some interesting hours from now till the deadline.

It won't necessarily be one of the good ones, it will however probably be a cheap one ( Hartman, Jarnkrok, etc.)

I mean if Duchene ends up coming to Nashville that further validates the point. Poile gets his man eventually.

I think Poile was fine with Turris as his consolation prize but he hasn't lived up to expectations. So here we are.

Hartman is a possibility but I'd be shocked to see Jarnkrok. Lavy loves him some Jarnkrok.

Fabbro could be slotted in a top 4 pairing AND would not be subjected to exposure in an expansion draft is likely the biggest reason... Poile will not want to have his 'junk' in a grinder again like Vegas had him with choosing between losing Jarnkrok and Neal for nothing.

Also Craig Smith was out of the lineup with no noted injury and took line rushes last night in Dallas before being scratched. To me that would indicate him likely being a part of a bigger deal and Ottawa needs to maintain enough salary for the cap floor...

Well they said on the broadcast it was a lower body injury but Poile does keep his cards close sometimes.

We have no problems hitting the cap floor, not really sure where that came from.

Smith was out of practice the day before and was said to have a lower body injury. Plus I can't think of many contenders that have held out valuable roster players to preserve them for trade to non-playoff teams in the past. Don't think there's any fire creating that smoke.

fiala wouild be a huge steal for ottawa

don't think it would happen though
I think if Fiala was involved you wouldn't be hearing Tolvanen's name involved in the rumors.

Its possible I guess if Poile thinks he is going to get too much on his next deal ( I think he will have arbitration rights maybe?), but I seriously doubt it because I don't think he will be that expensive to sign.

You are confusing a prospect with a NHL level player.

A blue-chip prospect, in my opinion, is a prospect that a team absolutely refuses to move. The very fact that Tolvanen seems available according to Nashville fans worries me quite a bit if I'm being honest.

If there is another player involved coming from Ottawa... pure speculation on my part. The reasoning came when the Preds TV broadcast team stumbled on a reason why Craig Smith was out and then threw out 'oh, lower body injury', it smacked of being protected as a trade piece.

At this point a cup is worth more to us than any prospect, Tolvanen being available has more to do with wanting two no.1 C in our current line-up than it does with him not playing well.

tolvanen would absolutely be qualified as a blue chip prospect at this point. look at his resume.

The Avs fans "unimpressed" with Tolvanen are the exact same ones who were extremely "unimpressed" with Barzal when Duchene was on Colorado. They said at no point in his career, from first game to retirement, would Barzal ever come close to being the level of player Duchene is.

It's this whole "I want only your top prospect, but also your top prospect sucks, so trade me your top prospect at a discounted rate because that's how much I'll pay for it" mindgame which I don't understand why they're playing again because Duchene is Sens property.

He's not available according to us, that came from Poile, the fans have more or less just accepted that fact. Truth is if we get a Duchene or Stone level player, I'm not sure we have a spot open for him anyways so I think that is the reasoning for why he would be available.
