He is the ultimate millstone around the neck of the organization both financially and culturally. The idea you have to give a guy who is making 8.5 million a year, mini goals for gold stars and "side quests" for each game is mind boggling. If he had half the drive and passion that Lizotte has we as fans would be over the moon.

If we could "man with two brains" and do the Zip lock brain surgery and switch his brain with Lizotte's he would be a sure-fire first ballot HOFer

Even the way they talk about him on broadcasts is embarrassing.

During a rare game when he's actually putting in effort, Jim Fox has to point it out. "Oh look PLD is actually battling for that loose puck, that's a good sign!"

Next thing you know we'll be praising him for tying his skates all by himself.

He's the highest paid player on the team the next two seasons (11M+). Other players know that. It's terrible for team culture IMO.

Maybe they were actively trying to poison the teams culture and locker room by aquiring this guy and handing him and brisson this contract?
It stinks to high heaven.
The aquisition and contract need to be investigated .

No big name player will accept a trade or sign UFA with LA again if they just do it after one year. 3-4 seasons in and he’s still that bad? Much more understandable.
Big name players have nothing to fear as long as they don’t sandbag half the season, get the coach fired, then switch to a one game per week effort schedule. PLD is a known head case and has been for years.

Can you imagine how Kempe feels knowing that Fiala and Dubois are out-earning him by considerable amounts?

No, it isn't.

Its the only fiscally responsible option.
We'll see soon enough. I think you are so wrong....crazy wrong. Total wishful thinking. But maybe it'll turn out that i am. We will know soon.

BTW, being "fiscally responsible" means nothing when it comes to this decision and most sports franchises. I also disagree with your conclusion calling it such. Better off trading him away and eating some assets. Or trade away in 1-3 years. The NTC can be worked around -- i'm sure the guy would want to get out of a bad situation/area.

What is the benefit of following that route?

He isnt saying its not smart to buy him out. He just doesnt see the organization doing it.
Oh, I get that. I also think its the kind of thought process that creates these problems in the first place.

If this was a case of an unforeseen problem, or a performance outlier, or a contract without massive cap ramifications, sure, it would premature.

But none of those things is the case here. This is an expected performance based on ALL available evidence. Don't get caught up in the 40/60 point thing. One extra secondary assist every four games wouldn't make a damn bit of difference here. This was a very expensive gamble with an inexpensive do-over option available ONLY this summer.

They HOPED he would mature. He actually regressed in terms of effort and impact. It must be corrected, and eating more cap or spending more of a rapidly dwindling asset list is the same kind of mismanagement that put them in this predicament in the first place. Bite the bullet, rip off the band-aid, whatever you want to call it. It must be done now.

Yea once here and there hell make a play and Ill think maybe hes turning a corner. But really the way hes played isnt even worth a league minimum contract. Looks like vanilla 13th forward waiver fodder. If he was just a smidge worse hed be a liability.
He should be ashamed of his play. Most NHL markets would be running him out of town but LA is still handling him with kid gloves.

Do you guys think that if he was waived before his NTC that another team won't pick him up? I'm not asking if that will happen but if it did. I brought this up before and most of the responses were that it won't happen.

No need to investigate incompetence. The league let Mike Milbury run a team. They even had to step in on one of his trades, saying it was so bad, that LA had to add more.

Not to mention the Islanders also were able to sign Rick DiPietro to a 15-year contract.
