Three games does not a season make. How do we explain the previous 49 games? What kind of professional athlete sandbags for half a season because he doesn't like his coach? He's the highest paid forward on the team right now, he's going to need to do a lot to redeem himself in my eyes and he's not even close to that right now.

Second highest paid forward on the team right now .. we live in a world were facts can easily be found .. its like a 10 Second Google and click

I disagree. Vilardi could be a star player in this league. Even moreso if he was playing center.
Why hasn't he then?

Wrong. His salary this year is $9,000,000. Fiala’s making $8,125,000 and Kopitar’s making $7,000,000. Kopitar’s cap hit is higher, but Dubois is being paid more actual dollars season.

I'll forget it happened if he plays well throughout and stats to look like the paper we are paying him to be. To win, we need goals and lots of them. We're paying for him to score and he's not doing that but also under the Todd Regime and Sutter and Terry it's a bit stifling. It's just LAs style.

If Hilly is able to open him up a bit and bring that out of him then all is forgiven from my standpoint. If not, then it's pitchforks and overturned cars. There really is no other plan B with that shitty of a contract.

At the NHL level he’s not a shutdown guy and that’s how TMac seemed to use him. He’s also a guy that needs TLC (as will more and more guys). Hiller seems to have given him more freedom offensively, given him that TLC and he’s responded… so far. He has to be used as a 2C not a 3C and giving him QB does that.

TM never used him as a shutdown guy.

Either his conditioning isn't up to par, or he's just got a loser's mentality. I can't see the Kings winning with this guy. It's too bad all the journalists seem to be directly or indirectly linked to the team. I'd trade him at the first chance I got. This was a mistake, just like Cal Petersen was.

With rumors Kane starting shit in the Oilers lockeroom I hope they trade PLD for him.(wont happen i know) I hate Kane but I hate PLD even more. Atleast Kane would bring some agrresion and show an ounce he gives a f***. Also that would free up some cap to resign Roy(or rv)

I was looking at pre draft scouting reports and all said he had some sandpaper to his game and a player who could get chippy and rough it up. He had over 100PIMs in his final jr season...what the hell happened to that guy?

TM never used him as a shutdown guy.

disagree...he was a total shutdown guy in that he would shutdown pts production for his line and anyone paired with him

Now that PLD has returned to being the lazy bum we've all grown to love, can we stop blaming TM?

Seems like people realized if they didn't poke the bear, he'd just go back into the woods quietly

He definitely has some sandpaper. The guy pushes back when he's being bullied, but that's all there is to him. He himself doesn't go out of his way to engage in scrums or go out there looking to be a pest. He reminds me of Brown in that aspect of the game. Guy needs to play with more aggression.

Maybe you should direct this to Rob Blake -- you know, the Kings GM who is the one that FIRED Todd. Fans, especially those on hockey internet boards, don't fire coaches.

I’m almost surprised he’s on board with everyone else saying PLD sucks. Him being the world’s biggest contrarian and all.

Best hope is that this is just a throw away year and he returns to his normal levels next season. There have been many instances of guys having throw away seasons where everything goes wrong, and then are able to bounce back. Yes, there are Mike York types that never recover, and that is possible, but not a guarantee.

Luc had a couple of very down years while he was still in his prime, and bounced back to be an all-NHL performer again.

Justin Williams had a rough couple of years, maybe chalk it up to injuries but his production was way down, I believe he was even healthy scratched for a playoff game in either 2010 or 2011.

Trevor Zegras is having a throw away season right now, yes he's been hurt but even when he was healthy he wasn't playing well. I'm guessing he will find his way back to the 60+ point 2nd liner he was before.

Alexander Mogilny in his late 20's hit a career rut, actually had multiple seasons below standard and then returned to stardom with the Devils and Leafs. PLD doesn't have the talent Mogilny had, but he appears to have many similar attitude traits.

Teemu Selanne with the Avalanche was a complete throw away season, and he came back to his previous levels with the Ducks.

I don't think all hope is completely lost.

Tough thing is with the NMC kicking in next year, if he doesn’t come back then you’re stuck with him. Its shit gambling either way.

I don't think all hope is lost but I'd rather them cut bait while they can before the NTC kicks in. I doubt there is a chance in hell Blake does that because it will obviously look bad on his part so our only hope is if he gets canned this summer. I just think it's a huge risk to bank on him living up to the cap hit and term. If they would've just had a little faith in Byfield we wouldn't be in this position but as has been discussed on here ad naseum, the team has done a horrible job developing players under Blake.

Sign me up for PLD at $8.5M as wing for Byfield at $9.75M as 1C for the next 7 years. Stick Fiala there and let them all play 20+ minutes a night.

If you have no vision, then I’m ok with management paying the younger talent and playing the shit out of them together. Balance out the cost by putting Clarke and Spence on D in favorable minutes only makes sense if you’re looking at things objectively and holistically.
