thread on the main board: who is the softest player in the leauge?
considering his size and his unwillingness to use it/fight/check my vote was our very own sweet pierre.
its a good opportunity to vent about this quiet quitter.

Met PLD today at the event - second time meeting him. Hard not to like him when you meet him. I have backed off my PLD hate. He's a big animal guy - esp dogs.

Reposting something I just stuck on the end of the NY Rangers game thread because it belongs here, rather than there (though is totally off the flow of this thread right now):

At this point, I'm hoping we get at least one dimension from PLD. For example, if he just went hard to the net and drew penalties consistently - sure he'd still be way overpaid, but it would be something. From there, maybe upgrade to mucking it up in the crease for rebounds, deflections, screens...wouldn't it be nice?

Fine then.. Passive Large Dog.

Im fine we liking the person, but hating the player. But really as usual a lot of is misplaced anger: we should place the hate on the deal (and deal maker) more than PLD himself... all his warts were out and visible before he was acquired.. not like he suddenly became a loafer.

All us fans of see how PLD can be dominant; he has a sick shot and great hands. He can also be nasty with cheap shots and has a nasty side.

He just can’t seem to put it altogether consistency.

Though, if you look at the year he was traded - that was his worst year. So maybe he doesn’t deal right away with change.

I’m willing to give the deal a few years until I call it a bust. Especially a round or two in the playoffs - his playoff stats seem good.

I mean, I saw the dog photos, and don't doubt he is a good guy, but he is still hockey cancer until he proves otherwise. He needs to show something. He is about to be the 2nd highest-paid player on the team and anchored here for a long long time. A lot of people around the league thought the deal was overpayment, but that PLD was the best player entering in. He has the ability to still be that guy, but he has to show it and no shift he has taken in a Kings sweater since the trade has been even remotely close to giving a single hint of an indication that he is. I hate the deal now, but obviously, I am still rooting for him to put his shoulder down and bulldoze in there for some goals and prove he is the player we want to be here. I just don't think it'll happen.

And this is where we are. PLD is a complete dumpster fire of a hockey player making elite money but hey, he likes dogs so it’s ok.

From the guy who wants every moron that can’t play hockey but can punch faces on the team. Have I been playing too much Starfield???? When did I jump universes??

Now that PLD has been on every line it's time to try him next to Danault. Maybe a checking mentality can force him to at least try to do something useful. Let him take Fiala's place and have Fiala play next to Byfield, I'd be interested in seeing that. Keep rotating those chairs!

PLD is rightly getting heat here for his non-start, but he's not the reason for this terrible losing-streak because he was a non-factor from the beginning. The rest of the team needs to get their heads screwed on straight and figure it out.
Last 13 games (Kings record 2-6-5, 35% point %):

Byfield-Kopitar-Kempe: 9G 17A 26P -10 in 39 games total
Moore-Danault-Fiala 11G 16A 25P -1 in 39 games total
Laferriere-Dubois-Kaliyev/JAD 3G 7A 10P -21 in 41 games total
Grundstrom-Lizotte/Lewis-Fagemo: 0G 1A 1P -16 in 37 games total

Anderson-Doughty: 4G 5A 9P -7 in 26 games total
Gavrikov-Roy 2G 5A 7P -11 in 25 games total
Englund-Spence/Clarke 0G 2A 2P -12 in 27 games total

Yes Dubois (-9) sucks, but the complete disappearance of the 4th line, really the whole bottom six forwards, and the poor play of Englund (-8) and Clarke (-3 in 4 games) on defense have been a huge drag.

The Kings might as well just play two lines for the whole game with the way it's gone the past 13 games.

Those numbers are God-awful, and I'm wondering if the 2nd pair should be in bold as well.

Gavrikov hasn't been the same since the injury that's for sure, but Roy appears to have suffered some brain damage being separated from him temporarily

Along with Doughty and Anderson completely falling apart as well

When its' one guy, it's one guy. When ti's the whole team?....

So we are blaming the 4th line now for the big guys not showing up.... great.

Did it ever occur to someone that a player like Fagemo should be the top line winger to learn from Kempe, not from Lewis on the 4th line?

Same with Kaliev, his strongest skill is shooting and positioning, why the hell is he paired with a non playmaking diva and a working horse instead with a playmaking center and another scoring winger? Grundstrom is also utterly wasted on the 4th line since contrary to public believe, he can play hockey and knows how to score.

In a normal organization a lineup would look more like:

Fagemo - Kopitar - Kempe
Fiala - Byfield - Kaliev
Moore - Danauld - Grundstrom
PLD - Lizotte - Helenius

But yeah.... just giving out random salaries to no shows and then blame the 4th line works as well.

Just looked up Dubois' stats, and he's got 4 goals, 8 points, and is -13 over his last 25 games

Yikes!

I wonder if Boston would take him... maybe something around Ullmark?

If he can't be traded, then I would love a buyout if he doesn't improve dramatically by the end of the season (which I don't see happening). That said, there is no way Blake would survive as GM if he did it and there is absolutely no way Blake is going to fall on his sword like that.

Remember when we all breathed a sigh of relief when he wasn't hurt after slamming into the goal post? Now? Hmmm.
