LeBrun: Dubois wants out of Winnipeg, will not sign a contract for next season

LeBrun in the Athletic this AM seeming to pour a little cold water on LA:
"The Kings are interesting, though, because they were among the teams that looked at Dubois when he asked out of Columbus. But their cap situation this summer doesn’t marry too well with Dubois’ potential contract demands, although L.A. obviously would be moving players back to Winnipeg in any potential deal. Still, at the moment, it feels like heavy lifting for a Kings team still needing to address its situation in net as well."

Weird spot for both PLD and Winnipeg. If MTL is the only option, that's going to drive down his salary leverage as it will WPG's trade leverage. But the other big market teams are either contending & tight on cap (NYR, LAK, TOR, BOS) or terrible (CHI). Wonder if his salary demand ends up getting pushed down if he isn't willing to go to a smaller market.

In any case, I feel like Brisson is going to need to rustle up other bidders if he's going to get $ out of MTL.

Not necessarily. Only of Winnipeg wants picks in this years draft. Otherwise this could drag out all summer

I think they'll want it done beforehand. Teams will want to know cap space for their own players, signing people, etc etc. There's also the offer sheet threat.

The article also mention other teams coming in the mix lately. Will certainly be interesting to follow in the coming week.

I'm at the point where as much as I want PLD on the Habs I more so just want this saga over.
It's the other way around for me. I don't really want PLD in Montreal unless the price is extremely reasonable, but I'm enjoying the trainwreck that is this thread, checking out delusional trade talk by people on both sides who are pretending to be GMs when it's pretty clear they couldn't manage their way out of wet socks.

I'm at the point where as much as I want PLD on the Habs I more so just want this saga over.

I've read a lot of comments from both Habs and Jets fans saying they just want it done and how they're tired of talking about it.

Personally, I was never upset about Trouba asking for a trade, its players CBA right to do it so how can I get upset about it. Plus the Jets didn't pretty well in that trade so it was ok.

EK - I think the entire team wanted him gone, players, management and many fans so he was more good riddance. Problems have followed him ever where he has went through his life, karma can be a bitch. Good player (loved him as a player), not a fan of the person.

Big Buff - Retired due to injuries and just a general lack of desire to play anymore. I totally respected that decision, so many players hang on well after they should and their play reflected that. Big Buff didn't care about the money, he cared about his health & family and I have huge respect for that. Big Buff is a huge fan favorite till this day, loved him.

PLD - Like Trouba he is using his CBA rights, I get it. I have the ability money & career wise to live any city I want to but I choose to live in Winnipeg bc I have roots here, family here, kids here. I would HATE a job that forced me to live in a city of not my choosing, how much money a person makes doesn't matter. Yes some fans will quote me here and hate this comment and how players make millions they should just suck it up, well I make a very good living (not a NHL players salary lol) and money doesn't make a person happy........family does, friends do, etc, all the things money can't buy are the important things in life. In the end, some will hate PLD requesting a trade, but not me I'm fine with it, no hard feelings I wish him the best. I only want the best return possible for my team and no fan should argue that, we all love our teams.

In the end I've had some fun with this PLD situations, will make the summer go by quickly and we will still be talking about all the new players, picks and prospects we get from trading PLD, Mark and Helle potentially (maybe others). Fun times

Would still gladly take on Goodrow if he’d waive. PLD would be a good fit with NYR. I think they could put together a competitive package.

Would be interesting to see a third team get involved to see if that forces things to proceed a little quicker.

I’ve suggested Anderson and 31 for Dubois.

Funny how Anderson was a highly coveted asset at the TDL but yet now he’s cat vomit despite the Jets apparently wanting to win now. Anderson can bring a lot of what Dubois does.

I'm sure Chevy could do better than an overpaid winger and a late 1st round pick.

It is getting less likely by the day that he’s going to Montreal after all. Today article from Basu pretty much killed that idea. Not only is Montreal not willing to give up Dach but they also don’t want to pay PLD 9M per. They would be open to a similar contract that Hintz got but they are not comfortable giving more.

Hughes also wants to build a package around Dvorak, Anderson and picks. That doesn’t seems like the kind of news you would expect to hear if you want PLD to go to Montreal

Lol does he thinks this is NHL 23?

Dubois, Caufield, PK, and who else? Who's drinking Espresso Martinis while wearing sunglasses indoors in the middle of March?

Edit: thought that looked like a St Patrick's day photo, I'm probably wrong

Honestly I thought that was Duclair.

Not the same. Think about all the Montreal connections over the last year and now this. If you were Brisson and were trying to negotiate a sign/trade with one of the other 5 teams, I don't think this helps. Eichel was not connected to any team like Dubois was with the Habs. Not the same situation.

How well do you think Dubois and Caufield really know each other? I don't know. Anybody have information on that? Seems like a weird time for them to be hanging out to me.

Holy crap. PLD's agent had a bunch of his clients in town for the F1 and seeing as he lives there, probably told him to come too. Maybe they (Caufeild & PLD) have similar personalities and just clicked right away.

Caufield probably was laughing at Dach's faceoff percentage and hoped that Pierre-Luc would be his center. "I'm a small guy, Pierre-Luc! It's not like Suzuki will have my back in a scrum. Come play with me!"

PLD catches me as the type of guy who would pull a Turgeon in a scrum.

I understand that, I've never advocated the Habs need or should get him, certainly free as a UFA would be ideal for the Habs. Sound less likely that happens now.

You said unless the price is extremely reasonable, which is very subjective bc most offers I've seen in multi threads have been very discounted offers already, whether you consider them extremely reasonable or not I'm not sure. Whats a reasonable offer for an extended PLD assuming he lands at 8.25 x 8 years which is basically the same as Suzuki deal considering the extra UFA years. I'm just curious

Yup, non LA guy not having a clue about LA. Cap isn't a problem. WPG wants players & may buyout or move Wheeler. There is plenty of space to get things done.

King's just had a great regular season points wise with 2 goalies that were in the 4 GAA range. Pheonix was a huge upgrade just providing league average goaltending & letting in the occasional stinker. It is quite possible the King's go into next season with Pheonix & another cheap goalie. They have until the deadline to find a goalie that is a good fit.

The goalie market isn't great either. Hellebuyck is good, but his 9.5 ask isn't going to work. Then there are overpaid "sure he'll bounce back types" & tenders teams are looking at moving for "issues" or injuries before they become career threatening. Going cheap & not locking up an expensive goalie to watch them flop like Campbell & Markstrom isn't a bad idea.

Yup Kings have a good team, weak in goal but so are many teams. Like you say Jets have lots of cap space and could have huge cap space considering what trades are done and potential buy out of Wheeler so can take back contracts and want contracts back of productive players.

RE: Helle, every single player asks for more money then they finally get in contracts, Helle can ask for 9.5 and PLD can ask for 9.........but neither are getting it so thats kind of a moot point. PLD likely gets 8.25 and Helle I'm guessing will get around 8-8.5 IMO. I'm not advocating the Kings trade for either guy.

He'll get extra monetary incentive from Montreal to appear in commercials and radio ads.

Not saying that that will make Brisson and PLD go "well, let's just leave a mill, or two on the table", but it will probably be a factor.

He just needs to be dealt so everyone can go back to being at differences than enemies

I've seen people argue that the side hustle stuff for PLD really isn't that lucrative in QC. I don't know, but if it's a few 100k per year then it probably doesn't move the needle much.

Possibly, but I can see him doing a bunch of ads.

McDonalds, or any other fast food place.
Canadian Tire and any other sports store.
Banks
Betting commercials in Quebec.
Door Dash and similar.

In Ottawa the sens do radio ads for Otto's BMW, so I'm assuming PLD can do it for a luxury vehicle lot in Quebec somewhere.

Getting paid to show up to certain events.

He can potentially make a solid amount of change on the side.

7 days and hopefully Dubois is traded on the floor.
It will be interesting to see where he ends up as the Habs Athletic writer thinks money and asset wise it doesn't work. Other Sport media saying LA may not be all in.
Just let this end.

It's been 38 minutes since the last Dubois post.

You people are failing...

(I wonder if they can make a mini series out of this drama? The Day of The Earth Stood Stiil For The Dubois Trade..🤪)

Try being a Hab fan and the 4 year saga....

There is probably a deal already set in place between the jets and habs and they aren't signing off on it just in case a center drops to the habs at the 5th spot is my guess.

I'm guessing if Carlsson or Smith are avaliable, no deal.

I still think you load up for the price. Dach can play wing with Dubois or Suzuki while Monahan fills in 3C and the new kid gets protected minutes.

Odd man out is Evans and Dvorak....if they are still with us.
