LA definitely seems like a good fit and they're in a position to offer better "immediate help" players than Montreal. If Vilardi or Byfield are made available, then I'd take them and run if I was Winnipeg.

Byfield being available is a dream for Jets fans. I get that and I would want it too but I don't see that happening. Kings giving up on Byfield could back fire on them big time (or not). I just don't see them taking that risk.

Vilardi? Not sure. He has a good season at age 23. From the outside, I would say it's 50/50 the Kings offer him. He does need a new contract so maybe they prefer to give money to Dubois vs trusting that Vilardi will continue to improve.

What do the Kings say if they have a Vilardi+ trade agreed on but then Dubois asks for 8x $9.5M? Not saying he will for sure... just wondering what the Kings high point is on the AAV for that 8 year term.

PLD may be staying home and hopefully the Habs pay a ransom.

Hoping the Habs pay a ransom during our rebuild is wishful thinking.

Habs fans and Habs management aren’t as interested in this guy as you think. We’re listening, but we’re also prepared to move on. Dubois isn’t good enough to warrant the attention he’s getting.
Says post #2871 hardly any interest :sarcasm:

Add that he's a 6'4 220lb centre who scores and plays with grit and will be coming with an 8 year extension that is timed perfectly with his prime years

I can't think of ANY situation like this so it's impossible to gauge value

If it wasn't for the Montreal connection and if he had a 10 team list he would sign with, I think the traffic to trade and sign him would be much higher.

Interested but not desperate is how I would describe it.

So, your preference is to not have any players better than Suzuki/Caufield? That’s interesting team building.
I could have phrased it better, but was referring to PLD and players of his ilk. Give me a McDavid, and I'll pay them of course. PLD would be a good add offensively, but I don't see him as a $9 million player. He's not worthy of being paid more than the young leadership core of the club. If he wants more than S&C, he can go to market. I'll stick with Dach as my 2C and stay the course.

I think most people wouldn’t pay $9M for Dubois. It’s just a starting position that will be negotiated down to something more reasonable.

As for Dach being a 2C… he better get better than a 35% faceoff win. Also, wasn’t his only career success to date was as a winger on a line with Suzuki and Caufield?

Dach played a third of the season with Suzuki and Caufield, so no

Seems like his production was tied to the winger position with Suzuki and Caufield:

Kind of a positive too. Dach proved he can play and produce with better players; it’s just not as a centre. So glass half full. Imo if the Habs could get PLD and not have to give up Dach to do so then Dach could stay in their top six on the wing. But if the Habs don’t pay the price (imo) PLD ends up in L.A.

His success last year came playing wing on the powerplay with Suzuki and Caufield. He only had 18 5v5 points and his P/60 was 1.35. Jets comperables for 5v5 P/60 are Appleton (1.34) and Harkins (1.28). Habs comperables are Armia (1.35), Jack Evens (1.28) and Dvorak (1.46)

Huh. Dach still seems like quite a dud. I don’t even know what to ask for anymore with their decimated roster.
