Lol what possible reason would have to think this is a "yikes" scenario?

Just my initial reaction - as others have said, no track record and quite young. Not that that's a death blow but I thought for sure Dubas would get another year or two before transitioning to solo GM. I'm excited to see what he brings.

Good choice.

"Babcock won't want to take orders from Dubas."

Gotta love all the hilarious hot takes the past week.

followed by Mar Hunter is not the type to stand back and work with younger people. lol toronto media sounds so bad when there are no leaks and they have to speculate.

It's not like there is any real homework to be done either. He's basically been on the job, and training for three years. This is a transition, that he will be at full speed on.

We are at a crossroads and he has some holes to fill. He has a month to prepare. Also let's see if he he can do what Lou was not able to do and find us a dman or two that can play in his own end.

I don't believe Hunter is going anywhere. Guy has the title of AGM, but really is a scout through and through. I bet he didn't even want the position, and it was just the old school guys trying to decide young blood like Chayka/Dubas haven't "paid their dues".

Let's be serious, Hunter is probably getting paid more to scout than most GM's are getting.

This is not surprising in the least, and he is more a figure head in the position than having the authority of most GMs in the league.

Shanny is really calling all the shots in the Shann-a-Plan and Dubas simple his right hand man sitting in the GM chair and doing the day to day stuff.

Dubas doesn't have full autonomy to do many things without adult supervision or approval first. Many outside GMs that were interested would never take this job based on the limitations that would come with it.

Leafs new GM is going to be good. WHY? Brendan Shanahan has his hands all over this team. NO crazy trades/signings will happen. This team will progress slowly and stay on the path that they are on. Leafs were dead last 3 years ago and this year they broke the wins record and points record for a single season. The 5 year rebuild is still on. Lets wait and see what this team looks like in year 5.

You don't know this for a fact. For all we know, Dubas is the one with the final say on all decisions going forward.

Bullshit he has no track record. A. GM experience & Awesome OHL GM results.

David Poile before his first GM job: A. GM. Record of 15 seasons with Washington: 594-454-124

Yzerman before TBL: VP job with Wings, nothing worth more than A. GM experience, TBL record speaks for itself.

Funny how people expect somehow for GMs to have 3 Cups before hiring them. I'd rather hire a new guy with potential over someone that's had a .500 record or less over the past 10 years.

And boy is saying "he is young" as a negative dumb without any supporting reason for him not being a good fit based on that.

If Babcock is still stuck in the dumb Boomers mentality that someone younger can't be better than you/deserving of respect, he's got to go.

Have to explain something here about ageism. It has nothing to do with age.

There are progressive people of all ages, and shockingly to some there are regressive people of all ages. Being young does not mean you're progressive.

Being a Silent, Boomer, Gen X, Gen Y(Millennial), Gen Z has nothing to do with attitude or personality.

Shanny has had it easy to date. Now that we are top 10 we need to find impact players that can step in now. Don't expect to be drafting the likes of a Matthews, Marner or Nylander in the 20s and any of those picks that stick will take 2-3 years to develope.

Oh Mess. How old were you when you considered yourself to be an adult? Or are you still not there yet?
