Good call. Don't know why Shanahan bothered with the "due diligence" bit, though. Pretty clear all along who was going to get the job.

I think the general worry with Dubas isnt age, its approach. People are still very wary of an analytics first approach to teambuilding, and rightfully so, just look at the genius over in Arizona.

Personally i think Dubas is going to have a lot of support from all of the right people in the organisation, whether he ignores it or not will be interesting to see.

The moves he makes this offseason will be incredibly interesting.

there was an interview with dubas where he talked about analytics. He is 50-50 when it comes to analytics and eye-test; he doesn't lean more on one more.

also all his talks about analytics has more to do with drafting players unlike the blowhards over here who cry about PDO, XGF% etc... without even knowing how all those shit are calculated and what are the limitations of the models and data itself.

If the guy who first hired Lou when he was a nobody had the same line of thinking there would be no LL; and a HHOF career as a GM.
Yea not getting your point.

Some nobodies get hired and go on to achieve great things while others do nothing . Maybe we should wait and see what Dubas does before we elect him to the HHOF.

WTF? you need to get your reading comprehension straight. when the f*** did I say dubas is a HHOF?

everybody starts as a nobody. There is not one single human being on earth that was f***ing born a super star.

Lou
Bowman
Babcock
etc...

if you don't have the brains to grasp it then that's fine i guess. you be happy in your world.

What time do you think his curfew is?
Does he get an allowance?
Snack packs AND Lunchables, or just one of the two in his lunch?

Exciting times

Yup everyone starts as a nobody.

Stellick
JFJ
Waddel

Hopefully Dubas ends up on your list and not mine .

LOL; you throw names but when I ask you who was the owner that hired Stellick you don't answer?

Intelligent people make intelligent decisions; dumbasses make dumb decisions. if its too hard for you to comprehend that then I don't have anything else to add to this discussion

Not if babcock refuses to pay that player. If he doesn’t like holl he will just be in the press box

Babcock received an 8 year deal of which 3 years are done.

5 years remain. I give Babcock 2 years more to accomplish something if Babcock gets bounced again in the first round two more years I think he is gone.

I think Dubas would meet Babcock half way this upcoming season; then he will give Babcock players he thinks are right; if Babcock can't make it work - too bad.

I'm thinking this is gonna be really good or really bad. One hand you have a guy who might think outside the box, a new approach etc... on the other hand you got a guy who might get his ass handed to him by other GM's who have been around the block. Hopefully there is plenty of oversight and consultation going on.

Geez it seems like it was only yesterday a large number of people on this biard wanted to kill Cope for kicking Burke to the curb and now he can't make mistake .

Also Dubas was hired on Shanny's recommendation to the owners.

It is interesting that Dubas would inherit the team that has no cap issues; UFA salaries, buyouts off the books; and RFA negotiations set to happen.

Its his team now and he has inherited a very good situation

I like the hire and have a ton of time for Dubas but I'm going to judge him on his body of work once he's been in the job for some time and we see his track record

I certainly don't think that's an unfair position to take for anybody on either side of the Dubas hire

I’m perfectly fine with losing Hunter if he can’t accept Dubas as GM.

While there is still some time before we can fully judge his drafts, I have not been impressed with our picks outside of the obvious ones.

I am still waiting for Korshkov to come and at least play for the marlies

He wouldn’t be playing for the GM, he would be playing for the Leafs under Babcock.

Plus, Dubas >>>>>>>> Garth Snow.

Isles fans have funded two billboards saying "Snow must go" through a fund me account

Lou's son is the AGM with the Isles; I guess Lou to Isles rumours are true; if that happens; JT re-signs with the isles

Anyone who knows anything about Dubas has said that he isn’t just an analytics junkie. He is just open minded and informed, this is an important characteristic for the club.

Hockey is changing, always. We’ve had management who were well experienced, won cups in other eras, but were lacking that combination: open minded and informed. Shanahan is that, Dubas is that. On the other hand Burke was experienced but stuck in a different era.

The game is changing so fast, we need someone who is smart and who knows how to consume and manage the plethora of information available in the digital age.

Anyone who is abhorrent against this move: your attitude and approach to building a club is exactly what has been wrong with the Leafs before Shanahan arrived. It’s a new club, a new approach, a new way to make decisions, it’s built for hockey the way the game is and is changing today.

Welcome Dubas!

He’s been given every chance to succeed. A perfect opportunity to take a risk on a promising but young NHL GM.

I wonder how much say Dubas will have in the drafts. I don't expect a whole lot the first year or 2 but after that I could see him getting more say.
I would imagine he had final say on all draft picks (barring, perhaps, a #1 Overall that might warrant Shanny's input) the minute he was hired, and I fully expect him to start directing his staff immediately with regards to what kinds of attributes he values most highly in people and players.

I assume he'll listen heavily to the council of Hunter and Co. as far as which players best fit those attributes, but I would assume that whether he was GMing his first Draft or his 20th.
