eh? what were the questions? i hope it goes up on sportsnet later
Asked him about the rift between Matthews and Babcock. Asked him about the 'game 7 collapse against Boston'. He also sort of implied Dubas misused or didn't know what he had in Matt Murray in Sault Ste. Marie.

Dubas handled himself very well though, didn't give much and deflected the questions aptly. He handles interviews like a pro.

Was leaning towards Hunter a while back but I'm excited to see what Dubas can do TBH. Haven't been too thrilled with Hunters drafting so far...Its time to walk with the big boys now.

thanks v much :)

Probably best for everyone

Lou doesn't strike me as a guy that wants to be put out to pasture just yet and if he still wants to GM having his finger in the pie with a new GM could be problematic

yeup exactly.
like training wheels are off, mazel tov.

he asked Dubas about the "problem" between Babcock and Matthews and he didn't deny it....he answered that it's a good idea to support the players and their mental health?? and that the meeting was a good idea, or words to that effect.
I expected him to say that there was absolutely no problem......
I find that quite bizarre...

It’s because conflict isn’t the end of the world like most here believe

I hope he has the balls to do the necessary steps to make us better whether it’s a trade, signing someone or staying put.

Simply stated, I don’t want the franchise to run him instead of the other way around. I don’t mean to stereotype but he looks like a gangly push over. Let’s hope there is hair on those cajones

What's with all this conjecture? He signed on for 7 years...knew exactly what his contract stated when he signed and agreed to it...3 years as GM, 4 years as senior advisor...has worked with and mentored Dubas for the last 3 years...and now has committed to his new role as senior advisor...Lou has been in this business for a long time, he wasn't blindfolded by Shanahan when he put ink to paper. The man is in his 70's.

Justin Pogge was great once upon a time...projecting goalies at such a young as to how they will pan out in the NHL is almost an impossibility.

He's also already been linked to the Islanders by multiple sources

He's also already left one organisation when he was placed into an advisory role after he was supplanted at the top

If he wants to go he should go, if Dubas wants him gone he should be shown the door as well

no.
smart people is what this organization needs.

age shouldn't make any lick of difference.
It's a strong generalization, but young people have a different way of thinking due to the enviornment they were brought up in. He'll be coming at a different angle than someone like Lou. Very excited to see what a new way of thinking will bring.

and smart people can do that too ;)
(i get what you mean, but the yay "young person" irks me. just as much as people went blech dinosaur with lou. age doesn't matter. brains do.).

Newly anointed Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas joined Tim and Sid to talk about becoming the general manager, Fortnite, beards and all the issues regarding hockey.

New Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas on Tim and Sid - Sportsnet.ca

I like how he carries himself in an interview.

One of the bigger takeaways for me is that he is bullish on the D prospects in the system. For me, on a larger scale, it seems like he's invested in the kids and will give them a lot of opportunity for success with the Leafs. In saying that I could see a lot of the depth roles on the teams filled by some of those guys. And I wouldn't be surprised to see Martin dealt in the off-season to make room for better players.

do you even have a clue what the discussion you jumped into was about ? and i guess you're another person who believe this forums only purpose is to waive the pom poms and defend the honor of our Leafs against other fan bases

Yes, I did, because I read the quote chain.

No, I'm not. How did you arrive at that assumption? Because I put more stock into what Shanahan said than I do random hot takes from people who don't know as much as they think they do?

Kind of make sense, since depth players are often over price in UFA.
Only sign and trade for top guys.

really happy with this decision.

i think he'll make smart moves.

i think there are a lot of stupid GMs in the league and hopefully Dubas will outsmart a bunch of them.

i think he knows how to play the game and given the fact that we have basically infinite resources, he should be able to make some big power moves.

for example, he might offer someone like Joe Thornton a bully contract.... like a 1 year $11 million deal. He would be bullying the Sharks who couldn't match that. Dubas is going to have a lot of cap space this year, but he needs a lot of it back next year for Matthews and Marner. So we can sign some big 1 year deals. Gonna be tough to reach the cap ceiling without making a big splash.

Jeez Ron isn't pulling any punches with his interview of Dubas

That's why his the best in the business. Also the reason IMO Bettman made sure Rogers kicked Ron aside when Rogers got the hockey deal.

While everyone kisses Bettman's ass for the most part with soft ball questions, Ron actually challenges him with hard questions.

People will speculate, especially the media...it's what they do for continued interests and to make money...has the Isles owner Ledecky fired Snow yet? Does he even have a clue of what to do with that team?

If you haven't heard Lou's commitment to the Toronto Maple Leafs, you could have a listen here:

Dubas has the utmost respect for Lou, why would he want him gone? These are deep human relationships we're talking about, both of whom love the game of hockey...they've worked closely for 3 plus years already, and both have the single-minded goal of bringing a championship to this franchise. They're not forum posters chewing each others head off.

What do you expect him to say?

Lou is a pro but if there's another job out there he wants to take I'm sure the Leafs organisation won't stand in his way and there's multiple sources linking him to the Islanders right now

Exactly, not every fight with your wife means divorce.

Exactly.

Did Hunter want the job? Yeah. Does that mean he’s not going to work for Dubas? No.

It’s just stuff that all started with Friedman saying Hunter wanted the job and it snow balled.

It’s funny, because the biggest “conflict” we’ve seen is when Babcock & Hunter butted heads over who to select between Marner and Hanifin.
