again. you don't know that if you don't talk to them, that is, and always has been my issue.. but like i promised Loosie and Walshy, i'd let it go
It was a baseless report around the fact that Hunter didn’t like Dubas and wouldn’t report to him.
It’s not true.
I heard on the radio today that the Marlies had played in 9 different playoff series in the 3 years before Dubas arrived. Does anyone know if that's true? Has it been discussed?
The argument was that he was sustaining the success of those before him and didn't really "build" what we are seeing today. Splitting hairs as far as I'm concerned as it's still not easy to build a contender year after year. That said, it did make me go hmmm...
Lou didn't have the power to make unilateral decisions either. That's how the organization has been run since Shanahan arrived. They make decisions by committee. Lou was a bit more tight lipped while Dubas seems more candid.I get that Lou is a tough act to follow in terms of conferences and what to say publicly, and how to say it the right way as well....
And I get that it's his first gig, and he's very inexperienced... etc etc. but Dubas appeared every bit the part of a nervous, inexperienced, young GM with what alot of what he said today.
Whenever grilled about hiring people, firing people, rules surrounding the team (beards etc)... Kyle always said he'd sit down with the staff (normally mentioning Shanahan) and decide together. This answer seemed like an answer of someone with no confidence to make his own decisions, "I'll ask my mom and dad".... Lou wouldn't say something like that, most GM's for that matter wouldn't. They would say, I haven't even given that any thought yet, or that is something that will be considered in the future, but nothing has been determined in that regard yet.
Why move on from Lou, if Dubas is just going to go around asking everyone else what he should do still?

Their financial resources are as big as anyone’s in hockey. They can’t give Mark Hunter the power he wants, but they can make it worth his while in other ways. He will be tempted, though. Other teams are already wondering about any insight into his decision.
There will be plenty of applicants if the Maple Leafs need to fill an opening. One to keep an eye on: Ron Francis. He and Dubas are tight. It makes sense if Lou Lamoriello makes the expected departure, although the former Hurricanes GM might wish to take time off.
Yes basically the jist was build a team that stays ahead of Florida,Montreal,Ottawa,Buffalo and catches up to Tampa,Boston.Dubas says his goal is to build a team that can get out of our division, due to how the playoff format works. that kinda makes sense.
wanted to post this in the Lou Lam not going to be GM next season thread, but it's locked, so I'll post it here
Jeez Ron isn't pulling any punches with his interview of Dubas
