again. you don't know that if you don't talk to them, that is, and always has been my issue.. but like i promised Loosie and Walshy, i'd let it go

Shanny looked outside the organization and considered both Hunter and Dubas. He eliminated Hunter last and went with Dubas. That's what Shanny said.

Just got home, turned on the TV and saw Dubas was interviewed on Tim and Sid. I only saw the last minute, damn. If anyone saw the whole interview and could share their thoughts I'd appreciate it.

It was a baseless report around the fact that Hunter didn’t like Dubas and wouldn’t report to him.

It’s not true.

Nobody knows anything at this point

Hunter may be willing to stick around and report to Dubas but we're not going to know until after the draft

If he does leave it's not really important why he went just that he left

Seems like a win win scenario for the Leafs. Both guys are quite capable of being NHL GM's and you risk losing either if you promote the other.

I'm happy with Dubas and hope he can continue the recent trend of development and success. If Hunter wants to leave to be an NHL GM somewhere all the power to him. He's certainly capable and I wouldn't say anything but good things about him.

I get that Lou is a tough act to follow in terms of conferences and what to say publicly, and how to say it the right way as well....

And I get that it's his first gig, and he's very inexperienced... etc etc. but Dubas appeared every bit the part of a nervous, inexperienced, young GM with what alot of what he said today.

Whenever grilled about hiring people, firing people, rules surrounding the team (beards etc)... Kyle always said he'd sit down with the staff (normally mentioning Shanahan) and decide together. This answer seemed like an answer of someone with no confidence to make his own decisions, "I'll ask my mom and dad".... Lou wouldn't say something like that, most GM's for that matter wouldn't. They would say, I haven't even given that any thought yet, or that is something that will be considered in the future, but nothing has been determined in that regard yet.

Why move on from Lou, if Dubas is just going to go around asking everyone else what he should do still?

I heard on the radio today that the Marlies had played in 9 different playoff series in the 3 years before Dubas arrived. Does anyone know if that's true? Has it been discussed?

The argument was that he was sustaining the success of those before him and didn't really "build" what we are seeing today. Splitting hairs as far as I'm concerned as it's still not easy to build a contender year after year. That said, it did make me go hmmm...

Look at the age of the team/make up of ahl vets to the importance of success of previous teams.

Lou didn't have the power to make unilateral decisions either. That's how the organization has been run since Shanahan arrived. They make decisions by committee. Lou was a bit more tight lipped while Dubas seems more candid.

Agreed very candid... but when your a die-hard fan who really has enjoyed the direction of the team over the past 3 years, and has taken thorough comfort in the respect that Hunter and Lou both demanded around the nhl... Kyles candid remarks scare the **** out of you.

Their financial resources are as big as anyone’s in hockey. They can’t give Mark Hunter the power he wants, but they can make it worth his while in other ways. He will be tempted, though. Other teams are already wondering about any insight into his decision.

There will be plenty of applicants if the Maple Leafs need to fill an opening. One to keep an eye on: Ron Francis. He and Dubas are tight. It makes sense if Lou Lamoriello makes the expected departure, although the former Hurricanes GM might wish to take time off.

Directly contradict wheat some folks have been claiming during the past couple days (that Dubas wasn’t offered full autonomy with the Avs, when he was).

And also, I’d expect Pridham to be made AGM within the next couple months

Dubas says his goal is to build a team that can get out of our division, due to how the playoff format works. that kinda makes sense.
Yes basically the jist was build a team that stays ahead of Florida,Montreal,Ottawa,Buffalo and catches up to Tampa,Boston.

Jeez Ron isn't pulling any punches with his interview of Dubas

Haha yeah and nor should he. I didn't catch all of it but perhaps most of it. Great interview, Ron is great at his job and I think Kyle will be also. Just seems like a super smart guy, I couldn't be happier he's our GM. And he better be awesome, our future is in his hands.

Jeez Ron isn't pulling any punches with his interview of Dubas

he asked Dubas about the "problem" between Babcock and Matthews and he didn't deny it....he answered that it's a good idea to support the players and their mental health?? and that the meeting was a good idea, or words to that effect.
I expected him to say that there was absolutely no problem......
I find that quite bizarre...
