Don't you have a surplus of forwards to protect as is? Wouldn't think you'd want to do this deal as you'd lose a D and forward in this case.

We'll likely lose Scandella or Brodin but the Wild desperately need a high end scorer/playmaker like Drouin. Have to pay to play.

I love Severson but would prefer a Johnson+ for him deal.

Drouin better get us freaking Karlsson.

Severson isn't being moved for Johnson. The Devils just can't afford to move Severson unless it's for a blockbuster player like Drouin. Honestly a trade around Severson for Drouin would remind me a bit of the Hall Larsson trade in that Tampa would be giving up more value, but would probably gain enough flexibility that it would improve their team immediately as well as their chances of competing for a cup.

As I mentioned before I definitely think the Devils add to Severson to get Drouin, but if I'm Shero I'd be quite open to various options. I see anything from Severson plus a 2nd and 3rd, or Severson and swapping 1st with Tampa (assuming neither team wins the draft lottery), or Severson for Drouin and Cally as a cap dump.

Hell, if Tampa could use Henrique I'd even consider working something around Severson and Henrique for Drouin and a + from Tampa.

Drouin for Muzzin and McNabb. Shore up your defense in one fell swoop with Muzz Lightyear and Brayden McDab. You can have Nick Shore too if you want him.

Drouin+Koekkoek for Hanifin+Gauthier

Would work perfect for our expansion draft purposes too and I know Carolina has extra protection slots. Carolina fans input?

We don't need Koekkoek coming back and don't want to give up Gauthier. I think one for one would work, but would be willing to do a small add (pick).

I asked in the other thread but no Tampa fans replied. Would Tampa fans do either an extended Fowler plus Nattinen/2nd or Vatanen plus Jones/1st/any prospect not named Steel?

Vatanen had a down year offensively because something was up with his shot but should bounce back next year. Fowler ate a ton of minutes and put up pretty good numbers this year. Both would absolutely thrive playing behind Hedman/Stralman on the second pair. Vatanen is the better of the two on the PP (this year aside) and is a better PKer but Fowler is better 5 on 5.

Fowler + 1st? I might do that.

Doubtful unless Fowler leaves a ton of money on the table. We are much better off going after a top 4 D with team control on the cheap to make our cap work

Zero interest in Vatanen

I'd rather go Hanifin before Vatanen and probably Fowler as well just because of where they are with respect to their contracts.

I'd also be willing to package our first with Drouin if it increases the draw.

TB should absolutely not move Drouin unless it is for an already legit top 2-3 guy that's similar in age

I would listen with Vatanen as the main piece coming back. I'd also be interested in Fowler (probably more interested, honestly).

If we move Drouin, I'm not too worried about the cap that's coming back. Obviously I don't want a bad contract, but whoever it is is someone we can figure out how to squeeze in (probably just by moving Garrison).

Edit: Also - this is the last year of our cap hell. After we re-sign Johnson/Palat/Drouin(?), we don't have any expensive players coming up for a new contract for two seasons, and by that time we'll have lost some of the dead money on the books (Carle's buyout, Callahan will have one year left on his deal, Coburn's contract is up, etc.). As long as we don't get handcuffed with a new bad contract in the intervening time, I think we are fine.

What movable defenseman has this value?

Drouin + 1st? I think you can actually snag a top 3 Dman with that type of package. Probably doesn't get you Seth Jones or Ristolainen, but after those two I think that is a good enough package to at least make other GMs stroke their goatee pensively.

Yzerman is quoted as saying he is targeting a young defenseman because the price of getting a D in free agency is prohibitive. That tells me the primary reason to make a deal is for cheaper cost controlled years.

So it really depends on the contract or might as well try risking the free agency route
