Honestly, I'd bring him back to TB and see if our development staff can get his legs back under him. He was pretty similar in speed to Brayden Point when he was here, and I think if he could get that back he could be an effective player again. Kind of crazy how this guy's career has turned out. If the attitude issues have really cleared up, I would like to see him back in Bolts blue.
He's yours (@50% cap) for a 3rd round pick!

All those assets individually are probably more valuable than Drouin at this stage.
Halak and Ryder are capdumps. Past their prime. The 2nd is the cost to dump Halak and Ryder.

I think Zadorov + Jost + 2nd makes more sense.

How Drouin at 50% for Jordan Greenway ?
that's a no because greenway has 2 extra years on his deal.

Would Drouin @ 50% for Namestnikov and a 3rd get it done?
Yes, us Hab fans would like something like that. I think taking back a bad contract at about the same as Drouin's cap hit or higher is what we'd have to do to get a pick.

But, Tampa may want to send Namestikov the other way to balance salaries in a deal for another player they want more.

Actually, I think it's 3 retentions at one time. So, if you retain for multiple seasons, it uses up a retention slot each season.
So what if a player has 5 years remaining in his deal and is traded with retention. Does the retaining team only retain for 3 years?

Nothing. Drouin just isn't the kind of player teams seek to add heading toward the playoffs. If they're good enough to be headed for the playoffs, they've probably already got their Top-6 and their Powerplay largely figured out, with better players than Drouin. Down the stretch isn't the time to putter around with a change-of-scenery reclamation project in a key offensive role. And Drouin isn't going to do anyone any good outside of that sort of prominent offensive role.

In the summer, i'm sure he'll find a taker that can get him out of the Montreal fishbowl and see if he can get things back on track with his career. But as a deadline trade...his value is effectively nil.

Just take out the 2nd and you’re there. Just a bunch of cap dumps. Drouin and his zero goals scored is almost impressive. A 3rd overall pick in his prime that can play so many games with PP ice time and not score even once.

That’s a hard feat to achieve. Pathetic but kinda amazing he can’t score with that much opportunity.

Hi,

My question is simple. What's the value for Drouin at 50% retention? Mid-round pick ? A bad contract ? Nothing ?
Well had some Montreal fans saying it would cost a 1st to move Puljujarvi so it should cost more to move Drouin.

I would love to give Drouin another shot, although I think it might be a 2 or 3 year project. Maybe it's just me, but that guy is playing like he's defeated. Maybe we can't turn him into a serious scoring threat, but I feel like our training staff could get his wheels back, and salvage something.

Apparently he and Cooper made up toward the end. It seemed more like Yzerman purging all the bad attitudes out of the organization, starting with Drouin (DeAngelo followed, and I think there was another one or two). I don't believe there was any ill will. But maybe I'm just a sucker for a prodigal son story and would love to see the guy get up off the canvas.

If we strike out on the other names it's something I'd be willing to do. Lafferty is the guy I'm holding out hope for.

The other contract we could move is Myers, but he's extended for one more year at 1.4M.

Watching Drouin in Montreal, my sense is his wrist injuries have affected his stick handling and he's not the same player.

But for sure it's worth a try in a market where the media and the fans aren't constantly hounding you. He had to take time off because he couldn't sleep due to the stress.

Drouin is made for Arizona. I think his agent said he wants to retire a Coyote.

I guess kinda similar to the return for Dadonov? Maybe get a shot a different player and hope a change of scenery helps

Yep, I'd say Pulju for Drouin at 50% is about as close to Gurianov for Dadonov at 50% (value wise) as you'll find.

Not saying I can see the Oil doing it. They'll likely value cap space all else; Plus they've got their Pulju replacement knocking at the door with Lavoie (who's done basically everything he can over the last 2 months to earn an NHL audition), so the open roster spot is also likely more valuable to them.

I don’t think there’s any market for him. Even at 50% I wouldn’t want my team taking that for future considerations. Hell I wouldn’t even want a Puljujarvi swap as I’d gladly see Puljujarvi traded for nothing but cap space and Drouin 50% would eat most all it.

He's an NHL calibre player who can fill in at center and can play both sides in any top 6. He can contribute in the right circumstances. He was never much of a scorer but the hockey sense is still there. He can be a threat especially on the PP so it makes him useful come playoff time. It looks like Hughes prefers projects over mid or late round picks and a defenseman or goalie who needs a fresh start might do the trick.
