Rumor: Dreger: Belief that Mason McTavish is going to be traded

The ducks should absolutely not make this trade, I still beleive mctavish and minty have alot more to give and fit our cores age and competition window better, let alone McQueen has potential to be the best player out of all of them. Let the kids continue to develop together and mayby in a year or two when they start hitting their primes do you pull the trigger for a win now type of trade.

Leo Carlsson hahahahahahhahaha
That's my reaction when I see teams thinking they're going to get Thomas from the Blues. There's a reason Armstrong said it would take the equivalent of 4 top 15 overall picks for them to even consider a trade....and that was back when the Blues thought they would be a lottery team.

You know the reason they weren't a legit lottery team? Robert Thomas.

Your typical speculative insider dribble. “I could see”, “they could ask for”, “what if”, etc, etc, etc.

Unfortunately the so-called insiders very rarely have particulars to any pending trade, or trades talked about months ago (other than the main piece that’s already public) yet they go down in folklore on this site as factual information.

One thing I can offer up about MacTavish is, I’d say half of the scouts you’d talk to, think he’ll never top out anything above a lower end 2C on an average to bad team. He’s likely going to be line driven. Meaning his production is going to depend on the types of winger he plays with. He may do great with a Lucas Raymond who creates with speed, but he’d be an anchor playing with a Brock Boeser.

Then there’s others who think if he develops into it, he can actually be a Corey Perry type player.

So scouts are all over the place with him. it’s really gonna depend on the GM who trades for him, and the wingers he ends up playing with. He’s not going to make it happen.

You are in a thread discussing a trade conversation that happened at deadline....(supposedly).... Which means there was prob some conversations about Thomas being available.

YOu can go find me anything relating to Leo being available, but ill save you some time it doesnt exist.

The 4 top 15 thing is such a wierd thing for blues GM to say... you are saying different picks have different value by calling them top 15(which is true)
So if you use a draft pick value chart
McTavish 3rd = 2 15's
Mintyukov 10th = 1 top 15 + 2nd
a middle first(like our pick 18), would have essentially equaled the 4 top 15 request.

Is McTavish Mintyukov and a 1st bringing back Thomas... because i feel like that prob isnt enough.

One important question is whether they should be a lottery team? Arguably they should be tearing it down, in which case it makes sense to trade Thomas now. Is it realistic to think a retool will make them SC contenders?

Whether its a Thomas trade with the Ducks or not, the Blues need to make moves and tank the next couple of seasons or they will be stuck in mediocrity like the 2010s era Minnesota Wild that would sneak in as 8th seed and get blasted in the first round. Thing is they already have been stuck in mediocrity the past few years. Right now the Blues aren't bad enough to consistently win Top3 picks and not good enough to make the playoffs. I predict they will finish worse next season but likely still out of the top3 picks in 2027.
they've done that their entire existence and it's worked out okay for them...(Cup, loyal fan base, alumni that stay in the city)...go look up how many times they've missed their playoffs since 1967...and what top 3 pick of theirs was on the Cup winning team...again, I'll wait...

I've changed the title of the thread since that news was in the past.

Moving forward, Feel free to post all your proposals or news/rumors from "Legit" sources here about McTavish. Thanks

contrary to popular belief mason can drive a line of his own and can go into beast mode. The problem with him is he is relatively slow and plays more of a cycle game than a free flowing open ice game that quenville prefers. The other thing about him is he take undisciplined penalties. I wouldn’t call him lazy but he takes lazy penalties.

But under the right conditions he is really can beast out.

What’s that worth… idk I can see a problem with his current contract but you could be buying low on a potential 2c.

Why can't the Ducks have the right conditions for McTavish to play 2C and go to that beast mode you are trying to pump?

If the potential and value was real like that, why are the Ducks considering to trade him? Don't tell me that it's only teams calling the Ducks. I believe this situation is a two way street and the Ducks want to unload before the value potentially drops more (like Zegras did). Zegras situation is fresh on the Ducks management minds and they probably want to avoid another value derail by holding onto the piece.

I'm around 80-90% McTavish is going to be traded before the next season starts. For what? I have no idea lol. I like McTavish but as a power winger who like to shoot. Helps his center a bit kind of thing. He's not a full time true type center.

Where are all you Ducks' fans at that were saying I was delusional for stating it was likely he'd be gone? In that McTavish thread. Show yourselves. Such arrogance and condescending bs in that thread from several of ya.

So what’s the deal here Duck fans

He shows gradual improvement over his first 3 years

Now last year everything has to regressed to some metrics being worse than when he was a rookie

Is this more regret they couldn’t get a bridge contract?

While I certainly think Thomas and Parayko are the best players in this deal, I suspect Blues fans would feel underwhelmed and truth be told I don't like it as a Ducks fan. Ducks are in a really good position with their youth and need to let it continue organically. I love me some Parayako but the fall if is inevitable in the next 1-2 years. Forcing something for the sake of it just doesn't seem right. With so many potential big options being on the market now I feel like the Ducks should continue to wait and use their trade chips cautiously. If I'm Verbeek I'm not moving McQueen regardless if it's Robert Thomas.
I like McQueen too. Would be hard to trade him for any GM im sure. He has super star potential.

Why are they trading him? They have a bazillion in cap space.
That cap space will be gone real fast
Gauthier
Carlsson
Mintyukov

All need deals, not to mention we have basically 0 rhd signed for next year

But I don’t think it’s a move that is about cap space, prob more or less just not working out. PV has no attachment to guys drafted before he got here, he already traded zegras and drysdale…. Mctavish and zellweger both seem available.

Only guys he’s really keeping from that era are lacombe and dostal
