Player Discussion Drake Batherson (RW) - Part II

I am starting to think that Drake is going to be our sniper! He is a hell of a player all around and becoming my favorite Sens player very quickly.

If you think about it he is playing with BT a front of net player and Norris who is 2nd line player playmaker and if he had a proper setup man, watch out!

I have to wonder if that Bath needs to play with Jimmy and then fine a center who works well with them Norris or Pinto or whoever.

At the end of the day I think Drake Batman can be our caped crusader / Sniper!

Jimmy Stu in a year or two

Time to bump the Batherson vs Bratt poll I made last off-season or too early?

Josh Norris is not a playmaker though. Batherson and Stutzle are playmakers but they are high end players so they can/will finish as well. 25+ goals every season when healthy. Number of assists unknown for now. Norris would be more a 30/30 guy playing with these 2. As you can see on the PP, he is a triggerman

Long term should look like this :

Stutzle - Norris - Batherson
Tkachuk - Pinto - (Kemell)
Formenton - (Greig) - Brown

If Greig could be a center and we get a high end RW (Kemell?) in the next draft, we'd be set. That top-9 would be bonkers

he's becoming what I thought Bobby Ryan would be. Just love everything about how he plays

Well... it's a public forum where we are exchanging on the hockey subject. If you don't want to exchange with me, you can simply skip my posts or put me on ignore lol

So if you care about what I said or not, I wouldn't know but there is OTHER people reading these threads so I'm hoping it will at least interest a few... because if not... what would be the point to post anything at all? Or simply to come visit this forum?

That being said, I didn't realize that post was only 15 posts ago so I could have skipped but yeah that answer would apply to anyone who would have a similar opinion on this. I thought it was a very informative post, the kind I personally like to read. I also would like to remind that Batherson has yet to attain Ryan's levels of production, even in his first 3 years in Ottawa. I hope he does because it'd mean we have a gem and I'll knock on wood hoping he'll stay healthy

I agree that you put a lot of effort into that post, thanks for sharing.

He needs a Backstrom type of centre to play with him and feed him the puck and he can be a 1.5 points per game player
Giroux?

Guys an absolute force. That line has some serious chemistry, every guy brings something a little different. But Batherson is the straw that stirs the drink, he really does it all out there.
Which is why I don't understand people who want to break them up just so Stutzle can get the benefit of playing with Batherson. The line is great together & should stay together, it's up to the GM & the coach now to find two partners for Stutzle to create their own great line. The combination of Paul - Stutzle - C. Brown is okay, although they don't create as much offence as this team needs. Ideally Paul & C. Brown seem better suited for the 3rd line.

Pinto when healthy with Stutzle & C. Brown were playing well together & we should see that again when Pinto returns. The reason Pinto is so important is that he gives them a better option to create a good line & seems to play well with Stutzle. I would also be fine with a Formenton - Stutzle - Pinto line as well & keep Paul & C. Brown together since they play well together. After these guys though the pickings are slim & this team needs to find a way to dress better players in their bottom 6 that can contribute offensively a little more consistently.

Yeah it makes absolutely no sense to break that line up. This team needs a veteran scoring winger that has natural leadership abilities and a high hockey IQ to play with Pinto and Stutzle. Preferably a shooter.

There's a poll on the main boards asking what jersey# currently has the best collection of players?

The examples OP had for #19 were M. Tkachuk, Backstrom, Toews, Terry, R. Smith)

I posted a picture saying "add Batherson" and one poster responded :

Doesn't deserve to be mentioned, at least not yet.

Or that Jesper Bratt vs Batherson thread last summer... People still don't know who the Drake is, or he still doesn't have the respect he deserves

Stone has a much wider 2-way game though. He's a Selke elite winger after all. I see Batherson more as a young and healthy Bobby Ryan, a great playmaker who can also score at will due to a very good shot. They even defend the same way as they play within the system and try to stick to being in the right position. Both don't/didn't nearly have Mark Stone's defensive awareness.

I think Drake is a 30/40 guy. Hopefully he has a healthy career

Totally understand from looking at hockeydb but when you have followed Batherson very closely for 4-5 years, you see things very differently.
