He's shown in the past he can be physical and hard to play against; I'm convinced he's dealing with some injury or another and playing gun shy because of it.
100% agree with this.
Its crazy how some games he looks it and others he looks garbage really rooting for the kid
Drake has upped his intensity the last little bit, he’s made some nice defensive plays. Nice to see.
He's finally skating and getting in front of pucks, not just skating around in circles waiting for someone else to force a turnover and send him up the ice. But it's also emblematic of the whole team being dialled in and increasing their intensity.

Drake Batherson is a great player just having an off yr & has been somewhat unlucky on his plus/minus. He should have gone to the All-Star game last yr if he didn't get injured & we know how good he can be, he proves it every game. All of these young guys have to take some of their mistakes out of their game, I expect next season for Batherson to challenge for the team lead in most pts. Ottawa will have a great top six & potentially a very good 3rd line next yr.

Batherson’s flybys per 60 is really impressive.
Almost as as impressive as his touch plays to no one.
Guy has completely lost the plot with respect to puck protection, and stopping on plays to play hard defence.
He has so little resemblance to the player from last year right now it’s bizarre. Still has the laser shot but the rest of his game is embarrassing.

Looks like a guy who just wants to dangle and go bar down every shot this season. Instead it is resulting in giveaways and missing the net.
Can dial in for a couple games, but inevitably falls back into beer league play after a good stretch.

It's not even just his play in the defensive zone, he's cheating all over the ice. It's infuriating.
How many times is this guy going to take a low percentage shot from the far boards and go high and wide trying to pick a corner, which leads to the puck leaving the zone and offensive possession killed.
He needs a coach that will bench him for his BS. Way too many bad habits have become a routine part of his game with absolutely no accountability. And this is coming from a guy who thought he was our best player last year.

Gifted. But he cheats. Everywhere. I know you probably see it. Look, not his year. On ice/off ice, this guy is not himself.
Doesn’t mean he cannot be held accountable for his play. Coaches are trying to get him going. Did anyone here think he was the guy to be singled out after Seattle? Trying to get him to believe, and then he is nowhere last night

Hoffman was elite skating mixed with an elite shot.
The Batherson from last year was a different player than that . Batherson was throwing his size around using his hands and his shot. Defensively he you wouldn’t notice him because the puck was usually in the offensive zone when he had the puck.
He was our best player something Hoffman never was at any time. Hoffman got more hate here than he deserved tho imo just like Spezza.
The same cringey fans are calling for bath to get traded over his worst season in a young NHL career.

Yeah I kind of liked Hoffman tbh. So many great bar down memories.
I’m really only talking about this year. Bath, outside of a handful of games where he admittedly looked awesome, has been a floater and a perimeter player.
I liked Hoffman's offensive instincts, but he had zero hustle in his skating. Batherson is turning into a worse version of him. If Bath is going to cheat defensively, he better be scoring at a rate that Hoff did which he isn't even doing. So frustrating
