I'm not sure an assist was warranted on the tkachuk goal. That puck rattled around for a while.
Watch the Jets first goal last night. If stastny and pionk got an assist there batherson should have 3 assists from that last game. Such horseshit

Did you see the Norris goal earlier this week against Winnipeg? Brannstrom keeps the puck in on the left boards, tkachuk wins a split second battle that didn't involve Winnipeg possessing the puck, he backhanded it to the slot and Norris scores. They gave Brannstrom an assist on that, then it was taken away.

On that play, imo Brannstrom legitimately deserved an assist. The first goal the other night, Batherson shoots it, it ends up on Stuetzle's stick, I think he shot it twice getting his own rebound and chucky scores from below the goal line.

If scoring plays are reviewed, I can see Batherson not getting one on that play. I can't see how Brannstrom didn't though.

The league does review goals for attributing assists and I've seen assists awarded or removed the next day fairly often, but it's always going to have some subjectivity so consistency isn't a given.

Yes I agree that Brannstrom should have an assist on that play as well. Wtf is going on with the stat guys

Batherson is a great player & should only get better along with a number of other players.

I don't know how much more growth he has left in terms of his offensive game. He is probably near his peak in that area of his game. I believe he has a couple 30 goal, 40+ assist seasons ahead of him, similar to his pace this season. I'm sure he will mature away from the puck and continue to be an important player for the team moving forward.

I'll assume you mean he doesn't have much more growth because this season was so perfect that it will hard to one up? Very unlikely he is going to regress, that's for sure.

He has been a late bloomer at every stage of his career. His hockey IQ is very high, he plays a power forward type game and he has a very well rounded skill set as a set up guy as much as a scorer who can beat you from in close as well as from outside the hashmarks.

I think he is just getting started and he has the potential to be a top 5 Sen of all time.

Full props for the bolded statement!

I love the Drake and think if he wasn't injured this year would have kept up his PPG+ pace to push 90 points so I am super bullish on his skill set but WOW that would be incredible if he could be an all time Senator in any list (I guess he is up there for consecutive games with a goal).

Not to derail the thread but who would you consider the top 5 Senators of all time?

Best forward arguably the best player on the team pre-injury.
I think he is the highest IQ forward, with the best vision . He combines that with high end physical ability.
Good power, excellent release, accuracy and velocity on his shot. Good hands and can beat you one on one. Excellent playmaker. I see him continuing to improve and I think he can be a multiple ppg season player.

Certainly not suggesting he is due for regression. I’m just not sure there is another level from what we’ve seen this season. Which isn’t an issue, it’s a really high level.

After being a late rd pick that nobody cared about he went on to do very well in junior the next yr. Than he went to the AHL & slowly became one of the best players in the AHL leading the B-Sens in scoring. Than in his short time in Ottawa started to become their best pt producer this yr until he got ambushed by a minor league goalie.

IMO if he stays healthy next yr he can lead this team in scoring again, but it will depend on who he plays with. If he stays on the top line I think he has a better chance of doing that since all three play off each other & compliment each other so well. And he is just entering his prime, he's the best pt producing forward on the team IMO. Tkachuk is pretty damn good too & we got to see that he is a good playmaker too.

Why not? He was getting better every game before he got hurt. He is also a late bloomers in every sense if the word. He started playing late, growing late and he is a big guy. I don't think he is at his peak.

What he brings offensively is so well rounded, I’m just not sure where else he can improve. It’s not a criticism, it’s a compliment. I feel like what I’ve said has been misunderstood. His production from year to year is going to vary but like I said in a previous post I think he is going to be a 30+ goal, 40+ assist player moving forward. Unless you feel he is a consistent 90+ point player moving forward, I feel like our opinions of the player aren’t all that different.

Is it only me find it is obvious he is working out and practicing with elite hard working guys in Makinnon, Crosby, Marchand ans others in the summer?

Just the way he battle, the subtle plays he does. The sneaky pass. I've seen a video of them practicing, I believe it was 2 or 3 years ago and it look insane.

Batherson is and will be a great player if he can stay healthy. I feel he is our more complete player. Can do it all. Timmy is more skilled and shiny, Brady is pure power and tenacity ( of course he has lot of skill ) Norris is the scorer of the group.

But Batherson is all of that at the same time, just not at the level of them individually. Very skill, great shot, play hard, great passing.

No doubt that has helped and since tneh are brought up look at how Nate slowly upped his game and Marchant took a while to produce and had his best seasons later on.

Lots of runway for The Drake and the rest of our guys.

I look at the special things Batherson can do and I'm not sure how you train for it. He just reads plays better, that is why he is such a special player.

My impression of what the NS guys do was that it was mostly about working out. I could be wrong there. Mackinnon, Crosby, and Marchand all have insane core and lower body strength though. How do they practice on the ice together?

From previous vids it is a lot of small ice practice with battle and 1:1 drills.

Protecting the puck, quick moves and hands.

Sure they do some rushes but when you think of any of those other guys it is about being dominant down low and being able to get to the danger area from down low. That core strength you talked about comes in handy there.

They seem to do a lot of battling in tight quarters. Playing with not much space and time.

I think stuff like that will help Drake learn how to separate from defenders and get a bit of time to make a play. He's already good at it but I think he'll improve. And this guy does not need much time to make something happen. He has elite offensive hockey smarts.

One of the better contracts, would be dumb.
Hypothetically - who moves then?

Norris? No he’s a Centre

Brady? No, He’s the reason you bring in Matthew.

Stü? No, he is the future and a centre

Giroux? He didn’t come to Ottawa to play 3rd line minutes.

DeBrincat? You could do a swap for Matthew but that would be acting in bad faith and would make the franchise look bad.

Drake? Likely gets bumped down to 2nd line PP duties this season anyway - and is too good to play on the third line. Best Option IMO.
