So then what's truly the point of a taxi squad? Just let teams carry more players by like 2-3. So NHL can carry 25 if they want and AHL can carry 25 or whatever.

What does having AHL vets in a group not playing do for the team if you're just gonna call up your young guys from the AHL. I'm not understanding the logic of a taxi squad at all then.

They practice with the team and go with them on the road. Also protects against outbreak in the A - if you have a COVID outbreak in the AHL, guys on the taxi squad won't be exposed.

That was hard to watch. Poor guy.

That's how I broke my leg and needed surgery with 7 pins and 2 plates. It took until the 3rd season to feel normal and confident with it again.

So that doesn't really address the "why create a taxi squad instead of just letting each team carry a couple extra bodies?

Like what's the obsession with having a group not play any games while they practice with the team lol.

They don't count against the cap. Beyond that, it is exactly just letting each team carry a couple extra bodies.

So, there is a chance that he might miss the playoffs?

I was gonna come back to say that.

"It's no different then healthy scratches...except I guess they make their AHL salary instead?" Basically just screws AHLers out of playing or making more money lol.

My 2 favourites in Pinto and Batherson (although I could swing to Chucky and Chabot quickly) out for the year. f***.

Has their been any feedback from a team doctor (specialist?) on the extent of the injury and a timeline for Batherson's return?

I guess its only been half a day approx., and a lack of patience to get more info. Just wondered if there's any additional info?

I actually think they do make NHL money - just don't count against the cap.

I saw "high sprain", which can be worse than a break, but they need to wait for swelling to go down in order to assess (at least without causing Drake a ton of pain and possibly worsening the injury!)

Yes, I saw the high ankle sprain info as well, but didn't know if that was the actual, final medical diagnosis or not. I also saw something about 6 + weeks for his return, but again, wondered if that was coming from the team doctor (or specialist). I fear the worst case and that he's pretty much done for the rest of the season. Time will tell I suppose.

I mean, you absolutely can do that. Just in the last 12 hours I've seen many videos of players doing just that. Heck, 2 of them were Ottawa related.

Andre Roy had no problem going to Felix Potvin and cross checking him and starting a brawl after Felix Potvin slashed him. Roy stepped up to Felix like he was any skater that slashed him.

Do you remember Andrew Peter's fighting Emery and people were ok with it because Emery was known to get involved in the rough stuff?
Emery was the one who wanted that fight. One of my favourite Sens moments was Ray waiving the other players off saying he’s mine

Money. They get AHL pay on the taxi squad.

I was thinking someone like dahlin lol
I thought our guys would be giving Dahlin a little more attention and be a little extra physical/punishing with him. I think he was the player that knocked Gambrell out of the game and was taking some liberties as well.

Yeah, but it was still Peter's who skated to him while emery was still engaged with Biron. Peters basically said "get up, you're fighting me now" and people knew emery liked the rough stuff.

I think it's obvious from all the clips that dell likes the rough stuff. He's got 49 PIMs on his stat card. That's a lot for a goalie. So no reason we couldn't have a guy go to him and say "now you gotta fight me" and drop the gloves and start throwing punches.

He also cross checked Watson and got a penalty. Was hoping Watson would get up, turn around, a deck him just like Neil would have.

Or, at a minimum, if Dahlin wants to drive our guys into the boards, then return the favor - maybe even trying goading him into a fight (no idea if that would work or ever happen LOL).

High ankle sprain recoveries can vary a lot. Too early to claim season is over. Could be just 3-4 weeks depending on severity. Cross your fingers. Sucks about his all star appearance.
