It's a weird situation. I had something similar in my days where the opposing goalie slashed my teammate on the wrist resulting in injury.

I went the other direction and full out crushed their goalie shortly after. It resulted in another one of my teammates getting injured in the scrum.

It's really a coin flip on how to handle that. Sometimes the best intentions cause more problems.

It's not about the end result. It's about having the rest of the league, and your own team, see you stand up for yourself on the highlights on SportsCenter. Team identity. Reputation.

Outside of a bit of snow, and some accidentally on purpose falling on him when crashing the net during play... There really isn't a lot you can do at a goalie.

Which is why that was such a bad play. The angle shown makes it look like a headshot too, but I don't know if that's where he clipped him or not.

I just hope that the DOPS actually does its job for once and rings Dell up this morning.
Which it looks like he will be talking to them:

It’s a terrible injury. I had it oct 2020 and it still kills. Granted he will do rehab and what not but still.

I had a very mild one. Missed like 2 months of any sports. First couple weeks I had crutches. The next couple weeks were heavy limping. The next month was sensitive walking and taking it easy and trying to stretch it lightly. Happened at like 24yo. In my late 20s I could still aggravate it and it felt weaker than my other ankle and I had less control on the finer movements...now at 32 it's almost normal the last couple years. On occasion, if I do lots of quick cuts and push offs, it can get tired or sore for a day. (Like if I play 3-4 sets of tennis singles in a row) but it's an afterthought for the most part.

The problem is it lingers for years.

Tkachuk has stepped up for his teammates plenty of times, it's a different situation with a goalie, you can't just tell him it's time to go and drop the gloves. Besides, guys like Watson and Brown are the ones we ostensibly dress to deal with dirty crap.

I mean, you absolutely can do that. Just in the last 12 hours I've seen many videos of players doing just that. Heck, 2 of them were Ottawa related.

Andre Roy had no problem going to Felix Potvin and cross checking him and starting a brawl after Felix Potvin slashed him. Roy stepped up to Felix like he was any skater that slashed him.

Do you remember Andrew Peter's fighting Emery and people were ok with it because Emery was known to get involved in the rough stuff?

15 years ago, Andrew Peters of the Buffalo Sabres took on Razor Ray Emery during the epic rivalry matchups between Buffalo and Ottawa (the Sabres' playoff nemesis).

Unfortunately, the whole "tough" Ottawa team is a myth. Josh Brown is useless, while Watson is a punching bag if he is not holding on for dear life. But you didn't need to be a heavy to go after Dell. Not sure what DJ was preaching in the locker room during the intermission, but I was definitely expecting fireworks.

The win was nice, loved the beautiful goals, but this is a huge loss. Hope Bathman gets the proper rehab to come back fully healthy.

You can say that, but I had to live with the fact that I caused my teammate and good friend a season ending injury because I lost my cool.

Your teammate should know you guys are brothers and stick up for each other no matter what. He won't blame you. He chose to join in just like you did. He could have walked away just like you could have.

Him jumping in to defend you is exactly what you did for your other teammate, which is exactly what all players should understand needs to happen. No one is to blame but the guy who initiated everything with the first cheap shot.

Use real world comparables. When Germany invades Poland, do we just turn the other cheek, or do we stand up for each other even if it means many will die? Should we blame the Canadian government for having us join the war or should we understand that it's what needed to be done?

Wonder who will come up.

C. Brown will be 2 weeks post-injury on Friday.

Kastelic & Bishop both on taxi. Sokolov, Kelly, and Shaw probably the top 3 guys to come up from the A.

I suspect we see Bishop right away and then Sokolov, Kelly and Shaw will cycle in. Would be interested to see Kastelic get a game.

I would replace Batherson with his brother from another mother in Egor Motherf***ing Sokolov. Nothing to lose, he gains experience and will go back down when Connor Brown and Colin White are back in the next few weeks. Or he sticks if he can have some offensive success.

Are you allowed to call up from your AHL? I thought you had to call up from taxi squad. Unless they do multiple transactions I'm assuming the NHL wants to limit cross contamination by having the taxi squad guys called up first. That way the young guys can stay in Belleville and make the playoffs.

I agree though. The guy who kicks everything off is to blame.

Haha I was just trying to come up with a more severe example to prove a point.

Sometimes acts of violence call for a violent response. The ones responding shouldn't be blamed for responding. That's all I was trying to say haha.

The extra damage caused by the response is often preferable to the continuous damage that would be caused by the original culprit being unchecked.

All good. I'm with you; Dell should have been destroyed.

You can call up from anywhere. Thomson just came up from the A yesterday.

I'v also had multiple sprains over the yrs & they linger forever, my ankles are huge now & of course arthritis is setting in. I started to tape my ankles before games, but in one incident instead of the ankle turning the knee blew out. This day in age I'm quite sure he will get top class treatment but it could be something that bugs him for a long time, sprains don't heal easily & as you say continue to linger.

I too thought that they should have responded with crashing the net given Dell has a history of doing it. He did it to Stone & Stone came back & cross checked him & it turned into a minor mellee.

However, today is not yesterday & with social media & all the bullshit that goes with it players have to be careful that they don't do something that calls for their own execution for going overboard. The refs IMO are to be blamed once again for doing absolutely nothing & they should be fined or suspended themselves for not calling something on that dangerous play. They should also have known that Dell has a history of doing that & given him a match penalty & kicked him out of the game. If players get fined & suspended for things they do that is dangerous or detrimental to the game, so should refs. It won't surprise me in the future if refs start to call that much more seriously & give goalies much stiffer penalties for that cowardly act.

That was after Emery beat the Sabres goalie in a fight...I can't remember his name right now.

Also, you're taking a 1-off incident and applying it here? What about every other incident involving a goalie that didn't have a goon go fight the goalie? And Emery was game to fight Peters. I'd wager a crisp $5 bill that Dell isn't game to fight ant of Ottawa's bigger guys.

You honestly think Dell would drop the gloves with Watson or Josh Brown? He'd just turtle and then every Buffalo player on the ice would jump the Sens player trying to fight Dell. Look what happened when Brady just yapped at him? 2 or 3 guys immediately grabbed Brady.

It's all cool to act tough from behind your computer screen, but it's different on the ice. There's the whole code of leaving goalies alone, so do you break the code and get shit on for beating up a goalie? Do you hit the goalie and have their whole team jump on your back and cheap shot you? Do you risk suspension to prove a point? But what point are you proving? That you can punch a goalie? Some people would say it's a gutless move to fight or hit a goalie.

It's not so simple.

Sens scored 5 and made him look like the scrub that he is.

So then what's truly the point of a taxi squad? Just let teams carry more players by like 2-3. So NHL can carry 25 if they want and AHL can carry 25 or whatever.

What does having AHL vets in a group not playing do for the team if you're just gonna call up your young guys from the AHL. I'm not understanding the logic of a taxi squad at all then.

That isn't even the only sens related incident involving a goalie I've watched. Andre Roy got slashed by Potvin and turned around and cross checked him and then a brawl ensued. Multiply that by games I haven't seen. Then multiply it by all other 30ish teams. I've seen countless videos over the last 12 hours of players going after goalies. No rule has changed since then. No player has been suspended for dropping the gloves with a goalie.

You absolutely go after the goalie.

It isn't open season on goalies. That's stupid, but it's open season on THIS goalie. That's what happens to any hockey player who takes cheap shots at your team and injures them. It's acceptable that you can jump a player who is dirty and injured your teammate. Only the most extreme cases like Bertuzzi are frowned upon. 99.9999% of the time, fans will say "yeah he deserved that. Now it's over and we can move on"
