I'd imagine the logic is because most of the game is played 5v5 and it's the harder to put up points that way than on the powerplay. That being said, points are points and there's something to be said about a guy you're scared of any time you take a penalty. Being able to consistently punish players for taking penalties is a luxury that not every team has.

It is harder to put points up on the PP yet only the Oilers seem to be able to rack them up like no other team. It is such a flawed argument which shows the true hypocrisy of a lot of posters.

Scoring is higher now than it was in 2018-19. That alone you could argue Kucherov slightly ahead.

Not that cut and dry though. Just like the 2018-2019 Lightning, the 2022-2023 Oilers led the league with exactly the same amount of goals: 325.

If Draisaitl even DREAMS that he’s better than Matthews, he better wake up and apologize.

Yeah, I mean if I matched 6 years of a player's career playoff production in 1 playoff run and in less than half of the 39 games he's played... and was a 4x 100+ point producer while the other guy has only managed to break 90 once, I would be offended at my dream understating the difference between me and him. Better doesn't begin to describe how much better Draisaitl is than Matthews. It's not even close, honestly.

Matthews being better than Drai and Matthews being a better two-way player than McDavid are narratives that nobody outside of Toronto believes, time to get some new material.

He's a PP merchant. Pedestrian at 5 v. 5.
He was hampered by a lingering injury for most of the season and only got his legs back in the past month or so. Add to that the mysteriously puzzling coaching decision to play him with ineffective players that don't complement his style. Most seasons, his 5v5 numbers are just fine.

Plus played 2 less games.

ESP last 5 years. Also add 2 more points after tonight.
Black mold brain take.

And Draisaitl had the most 5v5 primary assists. But somehow he's a power play merchant

because he's literally strapped on Connors back lmfao
It's too bad Mummy puts you to bed every night at 9 p.m. because if actually watched Oilers' games, you'd notice that Draisaitl and McDavid play on separate lines and have for most of the year. Maybe one night you can beg her pretty please to let you stay up. Or maybe not, cause that might ruin the lovely little fantasy you've created in your head.

Its not even really debateable anymore

Since 2019 Drasaitl has 181 Goals, 251 assists and 432 point in 287 games
Matthews is 188 Goals,149 Assists, 337 Points

Thats a 95 point difference

Playoffs? Even bigger difference 59 points in 37 games for Draisaitl. 33 point in 39 games for Matthews

As of right now, Draisaitl is clearly better than Matthews and has been for a while

Great player but I do think Kucherov's 128 point campaign was more impressive. There's a huge difference between playing with McDavid and playing with Brayden Point. Regardless, he's a top 3 or 4 player in the league this season

Yeah playing with stamkos, Hedman, point etc is such a rough go.
I'll give you hedman but stamkos wasn't the same player he was in his peak and we all know it. He had good linemates for sure but not as good as McDavid. Even Nugent Hopkins scored 100 points this year. Like I said tho, he's still a top 3-4 player in the league.

Stamkos had 100 points just last year and had 98 points that year.
A good amount of those points were thanks to Kucherov (he was still 30 points behind Kucherov anyways). Kucherov literally beat McDavid in scoring the year.
