Absolutely sucks that we missed out on Laine cause of the new lottery system. He's looking like a franchise player

Can't say I feel that disappointed to miss out on a potential franchise player when we just drafted a generation player last year and already had a franchise player in Hall.
I feel happy for the Jets to get him personally. Without a player like Laine they may have been destined for several more seasons of mediocrity.

McDavid takes away the pain of every loss. I wanted Laine badly but we still have McDavid. We might lose Eberle or Nuge or Hall, but we still have McDavid.

Yeah to be honest I can't really be mad. Whatever we get this year is almost like a bonus, if we don't pick in the top 5 for the next 15 years I honestly wouldn't care at this point.

This is kinda like being mad about missing out on one of the Victoria Secret models when you already hooked up with 3 of them and then got the sexiest one of them all just previously, lol.

We'll get a good player with our pick anyway. Who knows maybe Dubois turns into Jamie Benn v.2.0.

It sounds bad but this team still has so many holes that it doesn't really matter if we take one of the three dmen or Dubois. Any of these players will help down the road.

Yeah it really is pathetic that not only did the Tambo/MacT eras leave us with a garbage pro team, they also left us with the worst prospect depth in the NHL.

I want Chiarelli to fix the team through trading current roster players for D, and then using free agency to fill some of those holes.

I feel like we badly need to use all of these picks this year.

I'm fine if he gets another 2nd to trade down a few spots if we still get a solid player.

We're going to need incredible organizational depth all around to compete long term.

It's like marrying all 4 of them and only the ugliest one wants to leave. The first one is a little annoyed, but wants to stick it out and see where this goes.

He definitely prefers to get his shot off quickly and find holes instead of blasting it past people. Still, I've seen a few slaps shots that make me think he has a cannon in that arsenal. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Edmonton picks him up in the second round. He just keeps getting better and better. How would you rate him compared to other late 1st/early second dmen?

Clague, Johansen and Dineen all seem like they could be pretty special down the road.

I actually don't know much about either of the other guys. I just saw Clague's game for the first time lastnight but was more interested in how Bear was faring. I think Dineen is a risky pick early in the second, which is why he may fall into the later part of the round but his upside could be sky high because he just seems incredibly smart. I could also see a team take a flyer on him in the first as well. He'll be an interesting player to watch to see where he lands.

Bastian's stock took a hit in the playoffs though so it's not out of the realm of possibility to see him still around at 32.

Another good project in Bakersfield would be Logan Brown.

Trade Yakupov + a pick to get a mid first rounder, closer to #10.

6'6 and around 220 pounds as a teenager. That says he's NHL ready soon but there is time to let him develop in the minors now. Send Brown with McDavid in summer to workout.

Who else would gamble on Logan Brown?

I would, though I think he is gone before 10. If we traded back with MTL or Buffalo I could see him being the guy.

We could have picked up some much needed depth last year but we decided to listen to The World's Biggest Oil Kings fan.

Connor McDavid.

Agreed

Now for the pick we do have,
Sergachev I have to admit intrigues me the most out of the 3d but all have question marks. I do not have much knowledge of chychryn but he was highly touted before this last year, is it more the factor of him being watched for so long there over thinking him? I remember when ekbld was drafted everyone was talking about how he could score but didn't have many assists and it was said he would at best be a 3 4 dman but look now who knows.

I would be happy with Dubois, love the style of game he plays. With his size, skill, and physicality he's perfect in the Pacific.

No point reaching for a D at 4. Just stay put and pick up a good D prospect at 32.

I need you to understand that Juolevi, McAvoy, Fabbro, Sergachev and Chychrun are all on another level compared to the d available come selection #32.

Why are you higher on them over Juolevi? :dunno:

And none of them step in and make a meaningful difference for 3-5 years.

I agree we need huge help on D, but trading for an NHL Dman right now is better. Trading one of our wingers or RNH for top flight D makes us immediately better.

As of right now they are, development doesn't always go in a straight line. None of them help us in the short term. There is a chance the best D in the draft goes in the 7th round. Take the BPA because none of these D will be relevant for quite some time. Look how long we have had to wait for Davidson, Klefbom and Nurse. Give me the massive forward that is very close to a sure thing and will be ready much sooner over the mystery box LHD.

I consider the BPA ranked like so;

Laine
Matthews
Puljujarvi
Dubois
Chychrun
Tkachuk
Juolevi/Sergachev
Nylander

Take the BPA. Whoever that is. Honestly it could be close between Dubois, Chychrun and Tkachuk but I wouldn't know. I have gotten the sense that Dubois is more NHL ready and more of a "driver" than the other two.

Now with the addition of Caggiula it may seal the deal for the pick being moved or traded down.

Seems like a decent plan.

Would not surprise me to see Puljujarvi slip to 4...someone may like Tkachuk more.... or trade up for a dman

It would shock me considering the GM of the BJs is a Finn and Pulujarvi is one of the best finish prospects we have seen in the last decade. Any other team I would say there is a very slight chance of him sliding but not with Columbus.
