Cross off all the high profile guys unless we win the lottery. Rangers dont believe in tank theory. Gonna finish between 6-12.

We can also trade up, actually that would make a lot of sense for us otherwise we will end up wasting away a lot of talent.

Well, in that case, players who I think will fall outside the top-5 but I would like on our team, in order:

Cajkovic
Honka
Kokkonen
Nussbaumer
Bjornfot

And then some more as well. Lets say top 5 is Hughes, Newhook, Turcotte, Kakko, Byram.

Krebs
Cozens
Dach
Zegras
Guskov

just to name a few potential centers still available off the top of my head.

Guskov? No thanks. Let some other team deal with his low percentage decision.
You still have no hard evidence behind your theory that Russian players going to the CHL or NA in general is a bad thing. There are plenty of prospects who stayed in Russia to develop and became nothing

Its not Russian players, its Russian forwards.

What hard evidence do you want? Is there going to be data thats 100% to 0%? I never claimed there would be. If you look at the data in an objective manner, its clear that one decision yields good players at a normal rate. The other decision yields good players at a very low rate.

Ok but saying we shouldn’t draft a player because hes going to play in one of the best developmental programs in canada and that a few cherry picked players did not succed when making a similar move meaning he won’t either is a dumb assertion.

Everyone has their own draft preferences. I have no interest in spending a first round pick on a Russian forward playing in the CHL, unless its a "can't miss" guy like Svechnikov.

PB hates any russian player going to the CHL. Just over a month ago, he was in his top 10 on page 1. Last year he was all over Khovanov as soon as he came over, he went right on his shit list. I prefer him the least too out of the 5 I posted as well.

With the Hayes 1 year signing, it looks like we are setting up for both Hayes and Zucc being moved at the deadline. Could be another 3-4 first year and us getting close to the bottom with just letting the kids play.

Possible- though they could also target 19-21 year old prospects closer to NHL readiness as the prime objective in trade returns.

They’ll target another 1st no doubt but I assume they’ll shoot for prospects already in the development cycle

Uh, so Newhoook was cut from the Hlinka by Canada. Weird decision if he's not healthy, but Canada still has some really good Cs going into next year's draft.

Watch Hughes when he covers up. The kid senses pressure better than any forward I've seen since Crosby. He's so unpredictable. McDavid gets the puck, turns and explodes. Hughes acts like he knows where the pressure is full seconds before it gets there.

Hughes might not be far off McDavid level with offensive ability. Its a different type of game, but I think he's going to be better offensively than the Kane comparisons I've made. He's now playing against the best kids in the world 1-2 years older than him, and he was the best player on the ice today. Defensemen can't defend him. Way too good.

I'm still unsure about the rest of his game. I don't see how you can play that style of game at that weight without taking some really big hits from some of the best athletes in the world. He really needs to bulk up. Playing in the NHL at less than 160 pounds with that style of play will not cut it. He also makes the type of defensive plays that would have AV benching him and claiming "he didn't make the right plays with the puck." Even as talented as he is offensively, I could see an NHL coach becoming very frustrated with how loose he is defensively in his own zone. He handles the puck in the defensive zone as if he was in the offensive zone. That only works if you are Dahlin. Never seen anyone else successfully play that style without ending up making a significant amount of bad turnovers.

He's definitely going to be a star forward. The question is how good. Will there be more there other than offensive domination? I don't think he's exactly the type of player the Rangers need. Dahlin was more of a need than Hughes will be. Hughes would be a luxury player due to where our depth is, although he'd instantly be our best player. I still think this team needs to be looking at drafting someone who projects as a 1C or 1D. We have neither.

You're really clinging to the notion that he won't be a C at the NHL level, eh? It's an interesting take, so I'm curious to see if you're correct in the long run. I definitely see where you're coming from even though I disagree. I'm sure you've posted it somewhere in this thread, but who's your favorite C in this draft?

It's funny, I was talking to someone yesterday about how certain elements of Hughes' game remind me of Crosby.

I'm hesitant to say that because automatically read it as a straight comparison or projection, it's not.

But from a size standpoint, from a style standpoint, how they control the flow of play, there's a lot of stylistic overlap.

IMO, Hughes is definitely on the same level as Auston Matthews' was at the same stage, and maybe a bit ahead of where Eichel is.

I don't share the same concerns as some about the size moving forward. This is a kid who just turned 17 about 10 weeks ago. He'll play in that 5'11-6'0, 190-195 range. His game will keep progressing and maturing and he's going to be a hell of a player.

His skating is absolutely amazing, and he’s really committed himself to learning how to read and pick apart defenses. He’s so much better than his peers at the same age that the difference is truly striking: almost a 2ppg player in the USDP as a U17, and the next highest is Phil Kessel at 1.5. Even if you bump it up to U18, he’s still right at the top behind Auston Matthews.

I don’t think he’ll be as big as you project, but I still don’t think it’ll matter if he ends up playing in that 180 range - he’s listed at 5’10 166 right now, while Quinn is at 174. He’s just too good.
