For all the other ones speed is one of their best assets, who cares about height? Kaliyev isnt a great skater but his goal scoring more then makes up for it

But agility and acceleration isn’t. I’ve had problems explaining this before. The best I can do is to ask you to not think about those guys we have, instead think about the quickest most agile players you know.

In some skating drills big guys just cannot challenge them. Maybe you have to have seen it to understand it, but the difference is actually really big. Someone 6’4 is just not even remotely going to be able to challenge the quickest 5’9 forward in a skating test that is about changing directions and accelerate repeatedly.

And in the game today, the reason the best teams has so many of those super quick guys is because they are able to just take away the time from the opponent.

You definitely have a point in that it’s very square to talk about it as big players=have nots, small player=have’s. Of course. Our kids definitely can play that way really well — but they are not elite at it. And it’s one of the more important areas to be great at. So when we add forwards to our top 6, I definitely think that it’s very important to monitor that they are great in that area.

Does that make sense?

There are plenty of vets to go around: Zibanejad, Lundqvist, Shatty, etc without Kreider.
Sure. But let's not count Shattenkirk among the group. All the Rangers need is more players with beer bellies who do not believe in playing defense.

That is his best attribute, but that is it. Kaliyev is a one trick pony. Much like Whalstrom last year. If his goal scoring does not translate, he does nothing. He is my #1 "stay far, far away" choice this year.

$7m for five years is probably a good guess on Kreider's price tag. I don't think the Rangers would do that though. Maybe four years. Just my guess, of course.
I actually think that may get it done if the NTC clause is limited. But like you said, I am just guessing of course.

Again, if the price of getting another prospect that they really want has Krieder included in the package, I think that Gorton moves him without any hesitation.

There are some chatter about Dach’s play at the U18 WJC, but he isn’t there nor is he the captain for Canada. That is Krebs. Easy mistake to make mixing two kids up like that, but just to set things straight.

I’m thrilled at the tournament podkolzin is having. He’s going to drop and leave zero doubt about where the top 2 guys are vs the rest of the field. I’m not sure podkolzin stays in the top 10 after this tourney. And don’t think for a second this tourney doesn’t make or break guys every year. Ask kotkaniemi

My bet is still top 6-7, but who knows. Cherepanov dropped to 17, sometimes when a kid starts dropping he drops really far. But the KHL threat was more real then.

Cole Caulfield. Forget about dropping down in the draft, just take him with the 2nd pick. He is the best pure goal scorer in this class by far. Kakapo is kaka.

I'd like to trade Kreider+ for Zegras/Turcotte
I'd like to trade all of our picks ( WPG1, DAL1/2, NYR2, TB2 + if needed ) for Caufield
Sign Panarin

I am really curious to see how the Rangers approach this draft.

The scuttlebutt for a while has been their desire to have quality over quantity in this draft. But at what cost?

If the Rangers do not make a move and he miraculously drops to the 18-20 range, Gorton would have a heck of a value pick. Arguably the third best talent in the entire prospect pool. The wait for him at that point be dammed.

That said, if the Rangers manage a minor miracle and find themselves with another top-10 pick, he is not my choice.

Oh, my. Just goes to show you. In all my time of being on HF, perhaps only the wardrobes change. Maybe the haircuts change somewhat. But the Pashas and JOrts remain static.

It’s easy to be fooled about players shooting percentage, but it never lasts. We who were around for Prucha learned that the hard way. He scored on everything for a year, was ridiculously poised when he got an opportunity. Picked corners, one-timed it really well and so forth.

But it never lasts on that level.

Caufield should be judged by his ability to get chances, not for finishing on 40% of his shots. He creates a ton of chances, but not as extremely many as the goals he have scored.

Draft is deep and NYR are nowhere deep enough to trade two late 1sts and two 2nds for a random mid 1st. Take the 4 lotto tickets all day long over the 1.

The whole U18 US team is starting to get pretty overrated IMO. They are on a STACKED ALL STAR team all benefiting from that and padding their stats. Don't get me wrong, they can all have amazing NHL careers, but playing with each other is certainly helping their draft stocks.

Im zeroing in on Seider and Newhook, I like the USDP and WHL centers but I just feel the cost to get them is too high. I even have a feeling that Krebs is going higher then many lists on here. I love both of their upsides, they have sky high ceilings but are gambles. Having the second ov really has me thinking boom or bust is the way to go. I dont mind losing Krieder, add a franchise winger, add a speedy offensive center, and a 6'4" righty d with excellent mobility and im super happy

I'd trade Kreider to help move up in this draft or to get a first for 2020 (most likely deadline deal). He's the last tradable asset with high value. One more big draft after this one, then I think the team starts to turn the corner.
La la la frenier !!!!
