I tend to agree. There will be value in the second round for defense.

Late 1st to early 3rd round possibilities:

M.Robertson
Vlasic
Kolyachonok
Korczak
Bjornfot
Vukojevic
Thrun
Helleson
R.Johnson
Warren
Mccarthy
Honka
Kokkonen
Crozier
Struble
Lacombe
Mironov
Tuomisto
Doyle
Constantinou
Hedstrom
Misyul
Okhotyuk
Siedem
Berger
Z.Jones
Lundmark
Bucheler
Has
Chystyakov
Rogov

this draft should not even consider any dman not named bowen byram.

this seider love fest is over the top. this kid has great size and measurables for sure but he's raw and would be a project no different than our own key miller. do we need another one over a forward ? why the sudden love fest ?

this draft should be speed and talent and high hockey iq. and all forwards. period.

after byram, there isnt a dman we must have early/mid 1st other than maybe broberg.... and thats not over some of the better forwards.

sure, some of the more polished euro skating modern 2 way guys would be good late 1st/early 2nd like a bjornfot or thomson but that's about it.

the team dynamic has been adjusted with adam fox signed. hes gonna play next yr along with hajek.

miller, lundqvist and keane soon.

theres good value late 1/early 2 if you want a dman no need to reach there.

That all-forward for the entire draft take is asinine considering the amount of defensive depth out of the WHL and USHL that will be available post first-round. You don’t ignore an entire position because you have five promising prospects.

I’d get it, and would agree, if you metioned using the first rounders to take Kakko + another forward, but the entire draft? C’mon now.

I do wonder if that mid 2nd rounder is enough to move us up 3-4 spots from 19-20.

i was unclear. 1st round only. later perhaps yes. even end 1/early mid 2nd i can see a dman taken but prefer forwards early

if we have only 2 1st rounders my preference would be to move up and take kakko and another forward.

no dmen in round 1 pls

R. Johnson, Kokkonen, Korczak, Bjornfot, Honka from that list, yet to be fair I have much watching still left to do as they are the only ones which have caught my eye so far. Vlasic I'm not sure I see it.

Agreed. You take BPA. Not all of the 5 promising prospects will work out and it will be 2-3 years before the 2nd rounders are ready, at least. Of course, they could find a steal the way the B's did with Bergeron, but it is not likely.

Should be, but this year, I think I would rather keep all 4 of the picks in the 1st and 2nd round. Would rather go the quantity route than putting all eggs in 1 basket with the WPG, DAL, TB picks

not saying he'd be the right pick and it depends on who is on the board...but seider being a project and possibly taking a little longer, doesn't scare me away or bother me if all the other boxes are checked...with all the depth we've grabbed recently we don't need someone that can jump in immediately. i'd rather wait 3-4 years on a forward or dman who will be the best guy long term

see this is where i disagree.

miller and lundkvist both taken in the 1st round and both projects. both have upside with key having 1st pair potential. both good solid choices last year but both still developing.

this draft to me is all about taking the best forward available to address both BPA and our talent void up front.

its BPA and need both for me.

we DO need players to play sooner rather than later and given our D depth and sadly our D contract situation, the signing of fox and development of both 77 and 44 and hopefully a healthy hajek, i see the forwards as thin on talent both now and in the future as well.

So, here’s what I want to happen- draft Kakko, and the trade Kreider to draft Newhook and then move up for Broberg. Get the future 1B center and high end LHD which the organization doesn’t currently have. Then hope Dallas sucks next after re-signing Zuccarello, and hope the Rangers end up with two top ten picks. Not too much to ask.

i'm totally on board for this...been high on broberg ever since someone posted #BrobergsBeforeHoBergs LOL

but you don't consider miller or hajek high end LHD? regardless wouldn't object to another potential top pair guy just curious

I'm not disagreeing with going for a forward. it depends on who is on the board...but i disagree about needing guys that can play sooner. we need to swing for the fences and get the best player...i honestly could careless about the current depth. we can sign guys to fill in if needed. and this applies to forwards too. if we can land a guy like newhook and think he has 1B potential then i've got no problem waiting 2-3 years for him

agree

push comes to shove i take the forward this yr

I think Hajek is a support Dman. Miller looks like he’s a Parayko type. Broberg strikes me as different from both players, more dynamic from what it sounds like.

I'd probably go forwards too for the 1st round, move up or not.

I think there is a better chance in hindsight the Rangers end up with a passed over defender who should have gone much earlier than a passed over forward.

I know its stupid since we won the lottery, but I am in mourning over the lost opportunity of a third 1st rounder. I feel like I should be wearing one of those black armbands like Frank Pentangeli, .

I blame Jamie Benn and the Rosato brothers.

Clemenza hated them!

As Ranger fans, we should have expected nothing else. #2 overall pick meant no more good fortune was falling. Aside from the Jets getting bounced out early.
