How about a sniper with some wheels? someone who you have to respect at all times in the ozone. I know those guys don't fall into the late teens/ Early 20's but it would be nice to one day have someone like that.
If their main calling card is their shot, they have to have a well rounded offensive game too for me to be interested. There’s sooooo many busts out there who were billed as having a ‘shot that can beat NHL goalies clean’ but so they can’t even make it to the NHL because all you have to do to stop them is get in their way.

And I also don’t believe it’s a recipe for success to build a team around a 40+ goal guy because those players and teams always get shut down in the playoffs unless that goal scorer is more of a second thought for the other teams defense, we’ve seen this first hand with Nash and Gaborik, and in Gaborik’s case, he got to go be like the #4/5 guys on LA and got to have an amazing playoff run. I get they may be the most fun type of player to have and watch, but to me, drafting one is similar to drafting a goalie in that you’re just hoping the kid’s game can translate up the levels

If anyone is bored, play my game

Take your favorite draftee you have ranked after 9

Do you trade Kreider and the 22nd pick for him?

How many names do you come up with where you'd make that deal?

Then go back and don't make that deal, sim the lottery and who do you end up with at #22?

Wasn't there a site last year that allowed you to draft for a team for the first 3 rounds? I think their premium service was 7 round drafts. Can't locate the site, or was it just specifically for last season?

That would be very logical. Were it not to have the Rangers involved.

Haha, I feel exactly like you. Stay up and watch the lottery? Can’t even get any work done?

I know we got fairly high odds and that no tampering with the lottery will occur, but mentally my mind is like it would be if it was one in a million. Kind of sad, or just what it’s like to be a longterm fan of this team...

Just feels like Zegras lines up to be a Rangers pick. Quinn/BU connection, Rangers rumored to like him, and the last time we took an Avon Old Farms alum in the top-10 he managed to get his number hung up in the rafters.

I actually forgot about the Quinn connection.

I mean it's not a secret or anything, but I completely forgot about the timelines of when he would've been recruited by BU, and the personalities involved.

They had so many loser points so Rangers kind of deserve the top #3 picks, but it`s too late for me so I`ll read about it tomorrow morning. :)

I’ve went on this rant a few times, the pure sniper type of player is the most overrated type of player/skill set in the hockey world (IMO)

I've always been interested in the perception of playmakers, because admittedly I've been guilty of it myself over the years.

Everyone wants goal scorers, power forwards, offensive defensemen and big physical defensemen.

People get less excited for playmakers and two-way defenseman.

And I get that, the first group tends to produce something "tangible" that people can see pretty easily. It can be harder to appreciate the guy who finds the open man, or breaks up a play in the neutral zone, or covers a wide range of the ice, but doesn't necessarily put up a boatload of points.

If a guy scores 40 goals and 90 points, they tend to be popular. But if a guy scores 25 and 90, there's not quite that same level of excitement --- even if he's the guy who's actually driving the play, controlling the tempo of the game, and responsible for a lot of the success enjoyed by the goal scorers. He's not the last guy we see; the camera isn't on him at the moment of the goal and in the immediate aftermath of that event.

Is Hughes a better skate than McDavid?

No. McDavid is a generationally good skater in pretty much all facets. Hughes' top end speed isn't so incredible (at least per Pronman), but what makes his skating so good is his agility, and his ability to pull off moves at full speed

Honest question here. Do you guys think this lottery is rigged? I mean they show the power ball numbers for a $900 million drawing live on tv yet they won’t show a sports teams balls popping out? Pittsburgh was financially strapped in 05 and win Crosby. Edmonton with their “luck” of winning year after year. Maybe I’m thinking too far into it?
You are. This isn’t the NBA. Hockey doesn’t make enough of a dent to even warrant a “rigging”.

Zegras, McCarthy, Vlasic, Doyle, Webber - all of them are going to BU and are rated very high in this draft.

We passed on a bunch of BU guys last year. Who knows......

Is Hughes a better skate than McDavid?

No. McDavid is pretty insane.

Hughes is incredibly shifty and difficult to contain.

There's often a misconception when people think about speed. They tend to view it was how quickly a player can skate from Point A to Point B. That's great in a skills competition, but how do they do when handling a puck, how fast can they think at higher speeds, can they shift gears, move around players, draw players to them and then pop the puck over to the open man, etc.

Guys like Hughes, and to a lesser extent Zegras, have that ability. A guy like Dach is also very good at maintaining control while handling the puck, and is a very difficult player to contain, even if he isn't necessarily blowing past the opposition.
