Salary Cap: Dr Dubas Cap Thread: He wants the Nurse

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Rakell is actually a better player in his 30s than empty-calorie Rust…but shhhh, don’t tell Yohe that…I’d honestly rather trade Rust, esp if GMs are stupid and value him more lol
I am fairly confident that Rust's perceived value around the league is higher than Rakell's. Maybe even MUCH higher.

He should be thankful... it gives him the added value of "positional flexibility."

Which will still likely only get us a 2nd and maybe a prospect but who knows. Depends on how desperate teams get when they circle back for "pretty f***ing good player" Rickard Rakell after all the real targets are off the board.
Wouldn't even be worth it at that point.

Teams are giving up a lot more for far lesser players. Raks is a good bet to maintain his current level for the next 2 years.

They just won the cup 2 weeks ago. They are already are very good lol.

Yeah like... maybe it will make them very good but I dunno... what they were doing seemed to be working and any money thrown at something that wasn't a problem to begin with seems odd.

I get that they want positional stability... I guess? But like... why? It's goaltending. Put a f***in' old tractor tire in there if you can get away with it.

That is why I call bullshit. Carolina's identity is what you just described.

Let me flip it around for you: Your team just won the cup with incredible depth adhering strictly to a team first system that star players don't like and struggle to play. Your startng goaltender is 36, and a UFA. How would you improve the team if not through getting a stud goalie? If you aren't getting better, you're getting worse.
I'm not saying this can't work out for Carolina with Hellebuyck winning a SC there as the starting goalie. Just that it is a very different strategy than they have followed. I am guessing Tulsky views 90+% of goalies are interchangeable and Hellebuyck as one of the few positive difference making goalies.

@Dipsy Doodle this is why you're better off trading for Nurse than trying to sign Kulak in UFA. Kulak is getting a 6 year, $4.5 million AAV deal to stay in Colorado. The UFA market is completely cracked.

32 year old Kulak gets a 6 year deal.

Cowan to Anaheim for one of their guys would make some sense, if Anaheim is looking for forward.

There's some interesting UFAs that I think could help them - Kulak, Soucy, Jensen, hell even Shea. My gut said they are gonna go for Klingberg and TDA and then wonder why their defense stinks.
What about Cowen to Ottawa for Spence? Maybe toss in one of those #3/#4 guys from TOR, and a depth forward FROM OTT to balance it out.

Secretly would have loved to see Nuke here. Ya I know he has some warts blah blah blah.

Jagr once said he was the best player I the NHL at one time.

When the guy is on he is really good, unfortunately he ran into some issues but a guy like that I am fine rolling the dice.
I don't know if our room would get/keep Nuke on track, or if Nuke would poison the room with some of the young guys.

Lot's of shoes left to drop in the next 30 hours.
  • Requested Trades: Larkin, Nurse
  • Pending RFAs: Robertson, Mintyukov, Zellweger
  • Rumored guys like McTavish, EP40, Knies, Thomas, Trockek, Nikishin, Zary, Tippett, Reilly
  • Does OTT do more to replace Tkachuk? GM sure seemed like he wanted to pump the whole trade return directly into the lineup.
  • Buffalo made out well on the Byram trade, but between Byram and Tuch they're a weaker team now than when the season ended. Do they weaponize that 4OA to get back to or above where they were?
  • Florida, Carolina and others need goaltending. Bob, Hellebuyck?
  • SJS needs RHS defensemen. #2 seems too high, #9 too low for the sweetspot on those guys.
  • Lots of "contenders" still quiet: EDM, MIN, MTL, VGK
Wanted to touch on a couple of these.

Min and Vegas are likely holding back for Larkin.

Montreal is an interesting possibility as they don't have any heat yet to make a move.

#9 almost asuredly can get Rudolph, maybe Verhoeff, so it's a good spot to get a RHD.

Buffalo really needs a move. I know I heard Trochek, but if I were them I'd want younger to match their core.

Ottawa and Pittsburgh feel like such an obvious match.

But Robertson is still the big fish after Tkchuck. It's almost crazy so many assets moved before he got traded. Wonder if Dallas overplayed this.

Stenberg and Verhoeff to San Jose is great f***ing work by Grier. Wish Dubas had some balls like him.
