Salary Cap: Dr Dubas Cap Thread: He wants the Nurse

"The Oilers will take second-, third-, sixth- and seventh-round picks into the weekend, but what are the chances they draft four players?

General manager Stan Bowman would trade ‘em all for the right goalie. He’d move any of them to make a Darnell Nurse trade amenable.

While GMs in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia are casually mulling a Nurse trade as one of several options, Bowman has set this thing in motion and knows he can’t bring Nurse back into his dressing room this September. He’s in a hurry to close the Nurse deal — Bowman needs to know how much cap space he has by July 1 — while all the GMs on the other end of the phone are saying, “OK, I’ll make some calls on a few other things I have going, then I’ll get back to you. Maybe…”

To absolutely no one's surprise, Bowman has backed himself into a corner. I'd bet all that stuff about it being a hockey trade was him trying to change the narrative

So Robertson is looking for more money or he really didn’t want to be in Seattle… either scenario pretty much kills any chance (as small as it was to begin with) that he will be a Penguin

Yes.

Also the price sounds like it was the 7th overall + thats steep. I wonder if Buffalo jumps in now with the 4th.

The consensus from pundits seems to be that he didn't want to be in Seattle.

I don't think Seattle is remotely comparable to Pittsburgh. Seattle doesn't have Sidney Crosby, who is a draw even at age 38/39.

After the Seravalli comment today, I was confident this was the case. Edmonton is trying to play the media to make it seem like a ton of teams are interested in Nurse and there's some huge bidding war for him, but the interest in him is modest at best and Edmonton is going to have to entice another team to take him.

I wouldn't even mind if Dubas just said "nah I'm good" and just passed on it entirely. Either move on to new targets or get Bowman super desperate and make him offer something crazy to take on Nurse.

What if, hear me out on this, what if **** the Oilers and Stan Bowman?

Kindel, Brunicke, #22, and Karlsson at 50% retained. Dubas can make a competitive offer for most any player. But it probably makes no sense to do so.
EK and Kindel are probably the only interesting pieces there. Stars are in win now mode. With the 7th overall you can pick up a RHD to finally anchor their top pair. Prices are stupid high right now.

Quinn Hughes is the best #7 pick in the cap era and he still took two years to become an NHL regular. Agree, I can't see Dubas acquiring any of these valued players without major pain at these prices.

Robertson is so overrated it's not even funny anymore! My Lord! Byram also!

EP40 shouldn't even be considered unless you want perpetual medicroty!

If the Penguins were a contender I would agree with you. But there isn’t much appeal in coming to Pittsburgh to most likely lose in the first round or miss the playoffs entirely. Even if you get to play with Sid. Look at the reported locations of guys wanting out and where they want to go. None of them are picking Pittsburgh even with Sid being here

We also don’t have the #7 overall pick, nor any good assets to offer Dallas other than really Kindel and whatever little we have we shouldn’t be giving them all away to get Robertson, who is not going to magically get us to win a playoff series lol

I’d like to see Dallas pay Robertson for a year or two in arbitration just so we can try to fleece them cf Bourque lol

I wouldn’t want to play for Seattle either tbh. Weather isnt good during hockey season and you look like a dumbass in their terrible jerseys with their terrible name.

Hes one year from UFA. I dont think the Stars want to go to arbitration because that means he walks for sure.
Well if they can’t come to an agreement for a long term deal, and they’re not getting great offers they want to trade him because he refuses to sign long term with the next team, their best option to is to hold onto him for one more year and try again at the TDL or draft next year

I think this gets resolved before the draft tomorrow
