God McDavid is such an unlikable twat. Hm, I wonder why the Oilers hired Knoblauch

View attachment 1259120

McDavid seems to have a real issue taking responsibility for his failures in why the team has struggled. It really feels like an "it's everyone else's fault" mindset with him.

Can’t read the quote but it doesn’t surprise me. People act like intangibles mean nothing but there’s no doubt in my mind Sid’s leadership compared to McDavids makes a difference.

It's basically him saying that coaches have been too soft on him and he's excited that Babcock will push him.

Despite McDavid influencing the Oilers coaching decisions namely by getting his junior's coach named head coach to make him happy.

Theyve had coaches in the past try to instill defense into their game but they ignored it completely... Maybe they're masochists and will respond to Babcock... There is going to have to be more moves though, because they have a few sensitive types that will not respond well to the archaic coaching Babcock brings.

Until the Oilers are able to add that 3rd play driver beyond McDrai, they will never even reach the finals again. It hurts they no longer have the assets to complete such a task and keep the team viable around them considering it's a trade contingent task.

Nobody is going to them willingly.

Not anymore untrue than, Pittsburgh.

I’ve been involved in hockey, ice and street. Football. Boxing. I only have a handful of VPs reporting to me now but I’ve overseen hundreds of people during my career.

The yelling at people, treating them harshly, has never been an effective way to motivate people.

It depends. Nothing better than someone who coaches hard but fair imo. Look at Saban.

I would rather have someone who is a little gruff but honest and clear than the person who “acts” nice but is really a weak person with their actions.

Babcock somehow combines the worst traits of the two.

I have a feeling that the idea of "Dubas doesn't want EP because of his work ethic" proposed on here may end up correct. With how much their draft and trades have prioritized getting hard workers and professional players, I think they could see the smoke around EP and conclude "we don't want this guy to be leading the team after Crosby".

Which also partially feels like another reason I think the Penguins are legitimately interested in Nurse. From everything I've heard from Oilers fans, he's a phenomenal locker room guy and is a Letang-esque freak in the gym.

Well, they can have yelling matches at each other.

Babcock: "You have to play better defensively, Connor!"
McDavid: "That's not good enough, you have to want me to do it more by adding more exclamation points, Mike!!!!!!"

I think you're right, but I think sitting him next to psycho Sid everyday might cure him. Sid has legit aura to pretty much every guy in the league at this point since they all grew up watching him.

And I'm sure Dubas asked EK65 & Rakell about EP40.

Tbh with the contract EP has, I don't know that I'd want to gamble on that ending up true if I was Dubas.

It's one thing if it was a reclamation project where it didn't come with a mega deal. But the mega deal combined with the questionable work ethic and I'm asking why I'm even bothering with the idea if I was the GM.

There's just too much smoke around the "EP doesn't care" idea for me to dismiss it. If that's the case, he's pretty much on a "do not acquire" list for me.

EP is a tough case because he legitimately went through so much personal off-ice shit recently and I'm sensitive to that. I'm just lacking the knowledge here, did the "doesn't care" stuff pre-date all the personal issues or is it more of a recent thing?

Also as we saw with a former two-time cup winning goalie, sometimes you just don't come back from that.

I kinda think Johnson is ass but he definitely was good a few years ago.

Yeah I don't mean that as a criticism towards him personally, it's more of from Dubas' perspective about trading for him. If it's a Murray situation where it's trauma that just can't be overcome, Dubas should absolutely not have any interest.

Yeah it’s also like… how could even you get here in life without caring or working hard. It’s not like he was touched by god talent wise like a McDavid. I agree with you overall though, he had serious stuff going on and maybe he is struggling with it and like Murray it could just be a long term struggle.

I look at the prices these teams are paying and will they be better… maybe… sure. But it’s a mortgage at 20% housing crisis prices.

Unless a team comes to Dubas predraft that’s desperate I’d just use the picks hope that saner mind prevail post draft.
I wonder if all these players making trade requests has made GMs more desperate to make moves. The window to languish in mediocrity seems to be shrinking.

(Sorry, doesn't apply to the Pens currently because everyone is content there.

If I was around Vancouver, all the bad blood there in recent past, plus the death of a unborn, I would probably be in a bad way, too.

The only positive for him is he has a beautiful wife and a guaranteed payday.

A new start is given.

Feels like if we don't get make a trade today to move into the top 10 then we won't at all.

I think once draft day hits teams are going to want to keep their picks and you might see some minor trading down but nothing major.

I would love KJ at the right price.

So, how about Rust or Rakell ro replace Tuch?

A bit older, but makes half of what Tuch is geting from the caps. Also pretty close in production with Tuch.

Maybe not the flashiest move for Buffalo . But I doubt they want to take a step back next season and Rust/Rakell are pretty safe bets to give the same production as now for the remainder of their contacts.

Very interested in the 20 overall they own. Maybe we need to add a bit fot it tho?
R/R+54 for 20?
Something for Rust/Rakell around 20 makes a lot of sense to me. I think that's about as high as a pick as you'd get for one of them. And with 20 and 22, you could move up somewhere interesting. Not Bjorck interesting, but maybe the Lawrence/Belchetz/Cullen/Gustafsson range.
