End of the day, young players need to play. I think Prokop and Matier could play bottom pair for some teams in the AHL, they both looked good enough in the rookie tournament and pre-season for that. But we've got 7 of our own guys higher on the depth chart down there atm, and Milwaukee is paying 2 more guys with their own money. So given that logjam, it's better for them to be playing games in Atlanta than eating popcorn in Milwaukee. Spots in Milwaukee will open up next year when Gravel, McKeown, and Gross contracts are up and at 1 or 2 of Stastney/Livingstone/Del Gaizo get promoted to the Preds.

Didnt think Matier or Prokop looked bad at camp but end of the day, it is a nunbers game. Id much rather them be playing minutes somewhere vs sitting in a pressbox

Final roster now, season starts tomorrow! (lines are just my imagination though)

Adam Wilsby - Keaton Thompson*
Griffin Luce*
----
Luke Prokop (Atlanta)

If Wilsby is the 7th Dman, the rest of the prospects are in trouble for playing time.

Id wager there is a directive to play wilsby or any of the other young guys 1st unless they absolutely havent earned a spot.

I would hope so. I also dare to dream we could dress 7D and maybe Gross could take shifts at forward... he is making great money this year, he can't really complain.

The Ads are in OT at Chicago in the season opener.

After 2 periods, the shots were 32-13 Ads. It had been 26-5.

Milwaukee has taken 9 penalties and Aaron Simms wondered about using robot refs!

I missed period 1, but two penalties seemed to be phantoms and an Ads goal was disallowed.

Spencer Statsney scored 48 seconds into OT.

Man, Chicago getting outshot like that despite having 9 PPs? Ouch for them.

The final SOG was 37-21. Chicago had 6 penalties.

Chicago has 3 players back from last year's club, which was affiliated with Carolina. They went indy.

They also have 3 former Admirals in Schneider, Grimaldi and Donovan. Matt D played in Germany.

And they also have Chris Terry and Cory Conacher... was expecting more offensive firepower with those guys and Grimaldi. Maybe it goes to show you can't get by with 5 veterans and then the rest of the team being non-prospect filler? Or... maybe it was just 1 game. Still, I would have thought that would leave them with a great PP if nothing else.

Here is the world's tiniest violin playing just for them: :nopity:

What happened to kemmell
What do you mean what happened to Kemell? They have played 1 game and he had 3 shots and was a -1. They also don't play again until next Saturday.

Also AHL.tv is free this weekend so you can go back and watch the game if you wish.

Tonight, at 6 PM CDT, Milwaukee has their home opener against the Texas Stars, last year's Central Division champs. At 5:50, there will be a ceremony. I assume that it will be to introduce the entire 2023-2024 team.

The Stars have played 3 games so far, going 1-2 with 10 GF and 8 GA during the 88th Season of the AHL. The Stars average 12 PIMs a game. The Admirals are the only team in the 7 team Central Division to have played only one game so far, defeating Chicago 2-1 in OT on the road.

Next week, The Admirals travel to Ontario, Canada to play at the Toronto Marlies on Tuesday the 24th at 6 PM CDT and at the Belleville Senators at 6 PM CDT on Wednesday the 25th. Those are two North Division teams and Toronto was last year's North Division champ.

Milwaukee returns home next Saturday at 6 PM CDT to host Central Division rival Iowa Wild. Iowa finished 4th in the Central last year, to Milwaukee's second place.
