Is Atlanta a singular affiliation? Is Milwaukee sharing them with another team?
Singular affiliation, except hockey doesn't really work as a very complete AAA-AA-A type of affiliation system yet like MLB... probably the Preds will only supply a small number of players to them, Milwaukee a small number, and then Atlanta will be on the hook to get half or more of the team on their own.

But it does sound like the ECHL is making a concerted effort this coming year to have 32 teams and a 1:1 affiliation match with the AHL, which in turn has the 1:1 affiliation with the NHL teams.

I haven't followed the ECHL before, but I imagine they may have a fair number of spots that are just "open" right up until training camp, while they await the trickle-down effect from AHL cuts elsewhere? :dunno: That's more how lower tier junior teams work too, so maybe we shouldn't be surprised if there isn't much of a roster there to speak of even in September. :dunno:

As an overly 'in my mind' guy, youm know think too much. ;)

The Rapid City Rush is my local team so I follow them fairly closely. No idea if this is how every team in the ECHL does it, but generally they give the older/career type ECHL players contracts in late July then slowly fill in guy throughout August and September. Then the final spots are filled in with the guys who didn't make AHL teams or who sign two way AHL contracts. Generally camp is held a week after the end of the AHL camps. The roster stays pretty fluid throughout the whole season too though. Like you say the ECHL has made a bunch of strides to be a true developmental league over the last decades so maybe we'll see more prospects getting time down there. As of now the only guys who play there that have any hope of ever making the NHL are goalies.

Not many Tanner Jeannots huh?

Milwaukee plays 11 teams this season, with 3 in Canada. IIRC, last year it was 13. No east coast teams this year.

The usual division teams, with SD, Colorado, Henderson, Toronto and Belleville.

EDIT NVM: DIDNT SIGN HIM YET

"After his sophomore season with Quinnipiac and winning the first-ever national championship in program history Graf was invited to his second professional development camp.

Following his first season with Union College he entered the transfer portal and then committed to Quinnipiac. Before coming to Nashville Graf made an appearance with the Florida Panthers prospects last summer.

The forward tied the school record scoring 59 points last season and is ready to surpass the record this upcoming year. Graf would need 111 more points to set a new all-time record for the program during his tenure in college."

I'd really like to take a shot on Graf. He showed great wheels at Dev camp. He caught my eye several times.
Most people thought he'd leave college in the spring after they won, he was going to be one of the most sought-after college free agents, like Livingstone was. Except instead he committed to returning for his junior year. Surprising. But hopefully showing up to our camp gives us some kind of leg up when it comes to signing him next spring? :crossfing

Same thought I had. I hope we made a good impression. I know these guys don't work out all that often, but having a free crack at signing them is really nice.

I wonder if we might be hosting a couple forward prospects from Carolina, if we don't sign others? As I understand it, with Chicago going fully independent, that has left Carolina without an AHL affiliate? (Chicago has 22 players signed to AHL contracts now - including Cole Schneider and Isaac Ratcliffe from last year's Ads) - they seem to be going full steam ahead on the independent route.

So for us, considering I've taken the liberty of already putting Gurianov and one of McCarron/Jankowski in the lineup below, we probably still have room for a forward or two. And pretty much all the guys we had last year who became free agents (Schneider, Ratcliffe, Rueschhoff, Huntingdon, Leonard, Sanford) have already signed elsewhere... Angello ended up being the only one we kept.

Carolina has already loaned most of their European prospects back to their home leagues for the coming season. But they'll still need to find homes for a handful of callup options in the AHL. Jamieson Rees, Vasili Ponomarev, Ryan Suzuki, Noel Gunler are a few candidates maybe? (I don't think we have any room for D or a goalie.) :dunno:

Egor Afanaseyev - Fedor Svechkov - Joakim Kemell
Zachary L'Heureux - Nolan Burke - Denis Gurianov
Reid Schaefer - ?McCarron/Jankowski? - Anthony Angello
Navrin Mutter - Jasper Weatherby - x
Cal O'Reilly*
Jachym Kondelik
Tye Felhaber*
Carson Gicewicz*

Marc Del Gaizo - Jake Livingstone
Spencer Stastney - Jordan Gross
Kevin Gravel - Roland McKeown
Adam Wilsby - Luke Prokop
Keaton Thompson* - Jack Matier
Griffin Luce*

Yaroslav Askarov
Troy Grosenick
Gustav Grigals*

* = AHL contract only

Is Taylor staying put?
It sure seems that way. He has been on the Ads team list, and his presence at the Dev Camp argue that it was quietly determined back around the draft that he was staying.

Which is fantastic news for our young team down there IMHO. The team isn't going to be as obviously loaded up front as last year's team, they seem poised to truly lean on the youngsters for the top line production. That's going to be quite interesting.

I guess time for an update. Though with Burke injured, the lineup doesn't look any clearer...

bruh in what universe is Gurianov playing in the AHL?

He's an offensive forward whose stats are about on par offensively with Cole Smith or Mark Jankowski last season, or McCarron the year before. But he can't do the other things those guys can in terms of defense or physicality. I'm fine with any of them in the AHL. Afanaseyev is a lot better than Gurianov, and I'm ok starting Afanaseyev in the AHL also.

I thought of his signing as getting a potential bounceback candidate on a league minimum deal who can provide some competition for the younger guys, but can also be a solid AHL player if he doesn't perform. Essentially this years Sanford. I also expect that much like Sanford that while he may se some NHL time he does spend most of the year in the AHL. Would love if we got the Gurianov from the Stars Cup run though but I'm not holding my breath.

Sanford is the perfect comparison. I'm just hoping that our new coaching staff (and bolstered prospect depth) doesn't require us to utilize a Sanford/Gurianov type again. Well, that or Gurianov is welcome to do something to exceed expectations and show some of what he has only briefly flashed in the past... but coming from a Dallas Stars household, I am not going to hold my breath on that one either. I definitely don't think he's better than a Sherwood or Trenin, so if we had a healthy roster I don't see any spot for him in the top-9 ahead of one of those guys, nor any value in him on a checking line, nor any "intangibles" value in him as a pressbox spare.

But I do see openings up front on Milwaukee, and that lineup to me could definitely use his speed and shot. I think it makes a measurable difference in prospect development to have a competitive minor league team, and while I like the looks of the Milwaukee D and Askarov, the forwards could use a little help there. So that's my ideal home for him. Something would have to go a little "wrong/unfortunate" with our incumbents in Nashville for him to take a spot where he could actually contribute, and I'm not hoping for anything bad like that to happen with our incumbents.
