Wonder where all the positivity for this guy went, there were a ton of people here optimistic about him, but have been quiet for a while.
I was one of them, I really wanted to be positive for once even though I had no particular knowledge on Ducharme except what I could read here and there. Younger coach, supposed to be the offensive type, ingame changes ...
I'm very, very disappointed. I couldn't watch a lot of games as I had way too much work ( which led me to quit said job, don't like being exploited ... new one incoming) but what I saw the last two games ... ooooooffffffff Terrible.
I tend to believe he is not free to do what he wants (management's puppet as
@Ozymandias suggested). Yet, it's quite obvious the players are not responding well to him. Won't go into details, everybody can see the team is disorganised and playing uninspired hockey.
Leaving overseas, I'm not exposed to the MTL media circus and I lack time to seek itws and such things. Even though I tried to be optimistic, I was still afraid DD would not be able to do the job, personnality wise : I saw him being interviewed beteween periods after he was hired as an assistant coach, he seemed terrified and not able to speak fluently. Cringy ... Now, he has to lead a group of professionnals and show leadership to get the best out of them. If you've ever played competitive hockey (not even in the pros), you know how a coach's personnality, the way he talks to the group and players individually has an impact on the group buying his implements. DD may be more relaxed with the players, but I believe they're unconvinced by him. This team looks resigned, not a good sign at all.
The favoring vets thing doesn't help at all, maybe management has a say in it, but players can see what's going on, a team with no meritocracy will falter. Players want to win but if the competition among them is unfair, they can't turn a blind eye to it. They'll win a few games here and there out of pride and them being competitive pros, but they really seem to endure the situation.
