Post-Game Talk: Dog's Breakfast

Jack Hughes is the kind of forward Devils fans can hang their hat on and they know what they have for 15+ years.

We haven't had a homegrown, hang-your-hat forward since Rod Gilbert.

Even if Laf is good, he's not that. He would have been that by now.

Almost every Cup winner has one of these guys, and that's what we need to get. Do whatever it takes. I don't care how bad you have to be or for how long.

End the suffering.

you know I just don't even know wtf with tthis team. It's almost a mirror of gallant's second season except worse. We went from "see this team needed some structure and they're better!" and watching them be imperfect but a good team, and this season it's literally all gone. All structure, all clue of what the f*** they're doing. Did the coaches change things? I dunno, I'm not gonna plead that Laviolette shouldn't be fired as well but again this is the second coach this team did this to! You can't keep doing this shit!
Dino coach didn't change anything. They refuse to clog the neutral zone in any effective fashion and everything dies from there.

Dino coach also doesn't coach them to reverse the puck in the D zone the absolutely astonishing amount they do. Hemming themselves in. That's them not wanting to get hit and forwards not giving outlets and cheating for offense.

I want somebody to come in and just...the New York Rangers are dead. We're starting a new hockey franchise and we're also calling it the New York Rangers. That's what I want the vibe to be.

I want a wholesale change in the team's culture and approach to winning.
Time to resurrect the NY Americans?

"Quinn stifles our creativity"

"Ok. Here's Gerard Gallant"

"We need structure!!!!"

"Ok, here's Peter Laviolette."

"Not THAT kind of structure!"

""
I find it hilarious David Quinn stifled their creativity as he had to publicly beg them repeatedly to stop E/W hope plays and play normal hockey (which they completely ignored game in and game out).

I don't know how Lav continues to survive this when GG was fired when the team was 99-46 under him. Lav is currently 71-40.

Lucky me, I didnt watch this debacle. Just checked the score at Flashscore and saw thay had crapped the bed again and lost 5-0. But seriously. 12 shots? All they could muster in 60 minutes of hockey was 12 f...king shots? Total embarrassement.

And we know that Panarin will never be benched because he's the only semblance of an offensive threat. In the first period, in the neutral zone he tries to go cross ice from a standstill, and it gets picked off but because of puck luck it went back to the Rangers. Then he attempts it AGAIN.

Calling them E/W hope plays is 100% accurate, because this is the worst high-risk-play squad I've ever seen. Everything is done on a hope and prayer that the puck will miraculously get through 3 opposing players.

Rangers could learn some things from how the Devils are built. this is what years of great roster decisions gets you. they sucked last year because they had the wrong coach and no goalie. now those problems have been addressed and they're a powerhouse.
I agree they are well built. Don't believe they can handle Florida in the playoffs though.

And like, what I'm asking isn't difficult. It's really not.

Tampa didn't get Kucherov with a high pick. Everyone Dallas picks is good. Minnesota found Kaprisov in a f***ing cereal box. Sam f***ing Reinhart has 139 points since the start of last season. Edmonton gets McDavid and then they get f***ing Draisaitl. Brayden Point was like a 99th round pick. So was Jesper Bratt.

We had picks 7, 9, 2, and 1, all forwards, and couldn't make it happen.

It seems like great forwards just pop up everywhere but here.

I'm not even saying I want a multi-Cup dynasty. I'm saying give me a nice core that's fun and that I can rely on, and then we'll see how we paper in the holes and where luck takes us.

yeah I dunno how I feel like I"ve been watching the same team and complaining about the same shit for the past 20 years even when they're winning

There's probably some amount of needing to develop the guys who seem like they have a lot of ttalent and not just signing big name UFAs and giving them all the minutes.

Maybe Perrault is an amazing player. It's not gonna matter that much if he's on the third line getting 12 minutes per game and no power play time because the coach has to play the vets

It can’t be understated how much better they’d be if they just scratch Lindgren. He is quite literally off the charts bad
