About to be last in the division a year after winning the President's trophy... That's genuinely impressive

I don't know what they practice, but it's a perfect storm of not being good enough, not knowing where to go or to be, and not knowing what to do. The opposing team consistently transitions after they get into the zone and catches all of the forwards deep like EVERY TIME. Forwards just do not put up any resistance when the other team transitions the other way.
Neutral zone obstruction is icky and they don't like it. That's it.

At this point, what’s left?

Pride? Entertainment? Dignity?

Nope.

I really, really hope Drury doesn’t think he has just one or even two more trades to make and that it’s going to be as simple as Lindgren for a late 2nd and Kreider for a pick and prospect. I really, really need him to acknowledge that more changes are necessary and that the TDL will not be the end of the trades. We need to be active at the draft, over the summer and continue moving guys out until this team has a genuine new identity.
I want somebody to come in and just...the New York Rangers are dead. We're starting a new hockey franchise and we're also calling it the New York Rangers. That's what I want the vibe to be.

I want a wholesale change in the team's culture and approach to winning.

Laf 3 goals and 9 points in his last 20
Panarin 5 goals in 20 (at least has 18 points)
Fox 1 goal, 13a
Mika 4g, 10 pt
CK 5g, 1a
Our 'big' guys just aren't scoring and Cuylle (6g, 13p) can't do it all alone

You know, as obnoxious as the obsession the Devils fans and org have with the Rangers is, it’s clear as day that they consider this a rivalry and our guys don’t.

The Hughes saga is 10x more frustrating because the guys on our end couldn’t give two shits.
They could win ten cups in a row and still not be as relevant as the Rangers are.

Even the Islanders have New York in their name.

I think we need to bench or LTIR Mika for 10 or so games.

It’s not working for him

Take two days off at home.
Then work out with Ben Prentiss twice a day for the remaining 2 weeks or so.
Convinced he would come back and be better.
Bonus points if he cuts the hair

There is no quick fix for this team. I'm not sure what 1-2 players you could bring in that would right the ship. The core is rotten, and Drury or a new gm will need to dismantle this thing over the next 2 years. We're in for a lot more bad before it gets good.

you know I just don't even know wtf with tthis team. It's almost a mirror of gallant's second season except worse. We went from "see this team needed some structure and they're better!" and watching them be imperfect but a good team, and this season it's literally all gone. All structure, all clue of what the f*** they're doing. Did the coaches change things? I dunno, I'm not gonna plead that Laviolette shouldn't be fired as well but again this is the second coach this team did this to! You can't keep doing this shit!

Ok, winning hockey is winning hockey, and his last Cup was in 2008.

It's another retread that hasn't had success in my adult life.

Bad idea.
I have no allegiance to Ken Holland or Joel Quenville or anyone with a name. I'd be fine with someone off this board doing player transactions. Only thing that matters is buy-in from the team.

I think the majority (at least on here) would be ok with the bad if it at least looked like there was plan to go with it. What we've got now is a bunch of mixed messages and no one has any idea what the future direction and intention of the team is

The big dump: Kreider, Mika, Panarin, Lindgren, Miller, Smith,

That is a full line's worth of forwards and two more defensemen that would need to be replaced. If they do what the gotta do at or near the deadline, this might very well turn out to be us and Buffalo fighting for the least amount of points in the league. Do we have our pick for this year?

A complete reset is necessary, there is no other solution going forward. People keep listing off names of players that shouldn't be available, but realistically anyone over the age of 22-23 should be available including Panrain, Fox, Igor, Chytil, Trochek, etc. Knowing the Rangers however, they will prob try to retool on the fly (1-2 years) and turn into borderline playoff team (similar to dark ages) with multiple 1st-2nd round uncompetitive exits (assuming they make the playoffs).

If done correctly, this is going to take multiple seasons (3-4 years assuming it goes perfectly, but likely more) to get done and a number of these players just done make sense in terms of this timeline. While I agree and am happy with how the team has been approaching the draft the last few seasons (trying to get bigger and harder to play against 5on5), I just can't get around these horrific trades (Trouba likley being the best trade he's made) and can't trust him to extract good value from other teams. Don't really care about what happens to Lavi, NHL HCs are largely irrelevant and have about as much influence as baseball managers on a teams success.

It was downright embarrassing seeing NJ strut around, start physical altercations and play rope a dope for a little while knowing 100% in their minds that there were gonna win this game and it was just when they wanted to turn it up.
One butt end of the stick into Jack Hughes mouth stops all the liberty taking. Oh there will be a scrum and punches etc. but you can bet your bottom dollar they will stop bullshit if teeth start flying out of heads.

If any of them were built like that, they woulda done it. It's been years. They just don't. Gotta scrap half of em.
