Does Leo Carlsson HIT 60 Points this Season

He had 29 in 55 last year, with a mangled Anaheim team and many "maintenance" days for his development.

I asked this question about Lucas Raymond last season, and he did well to surpass 60.

Does Leo Carlsson get there as well this season?

He better if he wants to keep that hype going

Bedard, Carlsson, Fantilli, and Mitchkov should all be 70+ pt players this year (with bedard closer to 100), if the 2023 draft is trending to be as strong as hyped

I have no clue why you think a 6 game sample size is reflective of anything, particularly when the majority of it isn’t even from this season. This is goofy
He’s just not showing any signs of being a productive NHL forward lately.

If he hits Lafreniere best season totals which is 57 points, the Ducks fans should be ecstatic

Yes, but he absolutely better or the pick will be questioned even further.

He hasn't even turned 20 yet. This isn't a 23 year old Kakko we're talking about at this point, he's got less than 60 career games to date. And it's not like he hasn't shown anything in those games, he's had legit times where he's looked like a 1c. Just not consistently.

Heck, team doctors last year found he hasn't even stopped growing yet, they said he might have another couple inches to go. Like with Sennecke, the Ducks picked based on upside rather than immediate returns.

You act like the pick is in a vacuum and there weren't other options on the board. If the players the team passed on to pick him look significantly better, it will be a very bad look.

Lately as in over the course of the two games the team has played in the last 6 months? :help:

Since we're doing weird shit

If you go to the games immediately before that he has 4 points in 3 games

But I wonder why one wouldn't do that...

He had 5 points in 3 preseason games as a 19 year old, you don't think that is a sign of a potentially productive NHL forward?

Sure it'd look bad .... in a few years. Not two games into his 2nd season at age 19.

Even his first year, what player was "significantly better" as a pick that they could have chosen? Michkov wasn't even in the NHL (and supposedly didn't want to play for Anaheim), Fantilli's rookie year was at best in the same ballpark. No one else was a realistic consideration at 2OA, any other pick but one of those 3 would have been seen as a far more crazy pick than Carlsson.

The question is quite literally about an end of season outcome, so drop the talk about three games into this season.

We’ll see where he is at the end of the season. If he’s not putting up around 60 points, there’s a good chance someone else in that draft range has. This was viewed as one of the best 2-5 ranges for a draft in a long time. The pressure is on all these players to deliver. There will be scrutiny of all the picks.

Even at the end of the year I'd be hesitant to project who's gonna be better in 5 years based on who puts up 60 points. Seen too many late bloomers develop into better players by their mid 20s, and early phenoms who plateaued or even faded completely after looking good early. I mean, who would you have figured would have the better career, Jimmy Carson or Vincent Damphousse after seeing them in their D+2 season?

He could literally have 3 points tonight and be on pace for 82

The post you quoted is silly…. Ducks had a weird late b2b on road to start the season against teams that already played games… I expect them to look more crisp tonight than in games 1 and 2

To add I’d be very happy with 60… he’s still gaining mass on his frame…. I think he’s still a bit away from a finished product.

Who?
Michkov, never an option to come to Anaheim

Fantilli - he only has 1 point in his last 5 games
Reinbacher/simshiv not likely
Smith has 0 points in his career
Benson? 1 point in last 5 games

Fantilli is playing with a guy who was on a PTO for a different team last week, and his other winger is a 35 year old JVR.

EDIT: I guess I'm just adding context

I don't accept your premise that Michkov was never an option. Is there proof he didn't want Anaheim? Even so, if you adjudge him to be the best player by a margin (maybe so or maybe not, time will tell), why is it such a sure thing that you don't pick him? You can trade him or you can convince him. Doesn't seem like such a bad situation to be in.

For sure, just pointing out the folly of small sample sizes, ESPECIALLY small sample sizes 6 months apart, in reaching sweeping conclusions!

He could. Early returns aren't promising though. On one hand he looks rusty and like his timing/ability to settle bouncing/rolling pucks is off. On the other hand, so far, Killorn has been killing his line's offense and Gauthier is still getting a feel for NHL level play. On the anatomically incorrect third hand, Anaheim's blueline has been really poor at starting breakouts into neutral zone transition play so far and that's killing all four lines at the moment. Fourth hand, the powerplay looks just as shitty as last year and he's been part of the problem so far. Fifth hand Cronin is insisting that every line run a dump and chase system and with Killorn being a turnover machine and Carlsson/Gauthier having less than 60 nhl games between them, it's not working too well.

It's really early though and all of this is subject to change. He has the talent, but it's going to depend on a lot of factors.

Since 2002 (post chistov draft we’ve drafted 4 Russian players

Russian player in Russia 2 goalies, 1 forward
3rd round bobkov in 09
6th round buteyets in 22
5th round galimov in 20

Russian player in North America
Mintyukov 10th overall in 22

Idk that we’ve even really discuss Russian players in our draft threads with our first couple rounds of picks…. The team has started to go a lil more Russian as of late with galimov, Mintyukov and buteyets over the last 5 years. But I’d be pretty confident in saying that if Mintyukov wasn’t in Canada already , we wouldn’t have taken him in 22. And it’s prob more opinion based on the last 25 years of drafting by anahiem …. But I don’t think we ever really considered michkov or Demidov. It’s just kinda accepted on the ducks boards that we arnt going to take Russian players in Russia early.

This is absolutely shocking. You had Bryzgalov after all. Need to step up the Russian game in Anaheim

Prior to this we drafted Russians pretty often

I think most fans would love to see us dip back into Russia more often(and we have to an extent the last 5 years)…
