He hasn't even turned 20 yet. This isn't a 23 year old Kakko we're talking about at this point, he's got less than 60 career games to date. And it's not like he hasn't shown anything in those games, he's had legit times where he's looked like a 1c. Just not consistently.

Heck, team doctors last year found he hasn't even stopped growing yet, they said he might have another couple inches to go. Like with Sennecke, the Ducks picked based on upside rather than immediate returns.

Michkov wasn't even in the NHL (and supposedly didn't want to play for Anaheim), Fantilli's rookie year was at best in the same ballpark. No one else was a realistic consideration at 2OA, any other pick but one of those 3 would have been seen as a far more crazy pick than Carlsson.

I know what talent looks like and Leo looks like he has the talent to be a Kopitar/Getzlaf/Thornton level center.

People that are upset over his early season stats probably aren't watching him much, because by eye it's apparent that this kid is going places.

Even at the end of the year I'd be hesitant to project who's gonna be better in 5 years based on who puts up 60 points. Seen too many late bloomers develop into better players by their mid 20s, and early phenoms who plateaued or even faded completely after looking good early. I mean, who would you have figured would have the better career, Jimmy Carson or Vincent Damphousse after seeing them in their D+2 season?

The post you quoted is silly…. Ducks had a weird late b2b on road to start the season against teams that already played games… I expect them to look more crisp tonight than in games 1 and 2

To add I’d be very happy with 60… he’s still gaining mass on his frame…. I think he’s still a bit away from a finished product.
