Does Canada causing less parity in international tournaments make international tournaments less fun?

Team USA is going to be badass by 2024. Don’t be so cocky Canadians.

Center depth Matthews, Eichel, Hughes, Zegras, and Larkin.

They’ll have 2 Hughes brothers Adam Fox, McAvoy, Werenski, and Jones on defense.

The Tkachuk’s, Gaudreau, Debrincat, Miller, Conner, Keller, Caufield, Boeser, on the wings.
The US is nipping at the heels of the Canadians and it’s only a matter of time before there is a passing of the guard.

I don’t think the OP wants to think about that reality.

Speaking of cockiness and talking about the past, you would think that world cup win in 1995 was last week.

You guys haven't won anything yet and it's been quite some time since you have, pretty big talk, but you've got to back that up. i think you are probably aware that we've been in this business for a long time and do back it up.

The last team you want to poo poo is Canada, that's foolish in the highest degree.
Would love to back it up. But that’s up to the NHL.

Enjoy the past while you can.

ItS OuR GaME -Canada fans

Give me a break. There are teams that would give Canada a run for its money. Games aren’t won on paper.

Remember when Canada lost in the WC last year to Finland? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

What I love is when Canada does not win, certain people bitch about that fact and question why we even sent a team. If you were here 10 years ago you know the thread I am talking about.

Both Germany and the Swiss for years were treated like road kill. But they got better.

When was last time Canadian men won Olympic gold? Oh but we did not send our best... neither did the other countries.

When we win we act like we are the cocks walk and we lose? We make excuses and complain.

I do not think some Canadians understand hockey at the International level.

In the 20+ years of living in Europe my view has changed

What the hell is with all the American belly aching in this thread?

First of all the OP is not even Canadian, second the majority of Canadians replying are insisting that Canada is hardly a lock to win anything nowadays. And all I see here are Americans being all like, "ZOMG CaNaDiAnS aRe So aRrOgAnT!!!"

Literally not one Canadian fan in this thread has said anything arrogant, cocky or obnoxious (excluding any responses to the angry American comments) to warrant any of the whiny remarks from US fans being said here.

Canadian forward depth is truly terrifying even if other teams have great players filling up their lines.

On the other hand Canadian goaltending is a f***ing embarrassment compared other top countries right now. They could win despite that of course.
Their forward depth is fantastic but other teams are likely more complete.

Also just to use Team USA as an example again they could potentially be icing a squad that has a guy like 104 point Matthew Tkachuk playing on the third line so it’s not like other teams aren’t gonna have some pretty crazy forward depth too.

You realize one of those posts you quoted was from a Canadian?

You're now doing exactly what you are accusing others of doing.

I don't think it does. Someone made a statement in the OP, people are reacting to that statement, nobody is paying attention on either side where people are from when it comes to who said what.

Fine, but judging by the OPs name and avatar it should be more obvious of where he is from then the poster I originally thought was American. But I do admit you have a valid point that I monopolized my own statement.

We’re responding to a thread. How are we supposed to know where the op is from? Doesn’t say it anywhere from what I’m seeing. Seems like you’re being just as sensitive as the people you’re accusing.

I don't think it's obvious at all. A lot of Canadian transplants and fans of other teams/ players.

I certainly don't assume someone is from Minnesota or Russia if they have a Kaprizov avatar.

As a Canadian I agree with OP. I find myself cheering for other nations internationally because we are just so stacked it's ridiculous, other nations are getting better fast tho hopefully we end up with a bit more parity in best on best tournaments in a few years.

I equate it to watching USA basketball at the Olympics honnestly

The similarity with usa basketball is that that they will automatically be favourites in any best on best tournament.

However, being a favourite in hockey means less than being a favourite in basketball. Hockey is more random.

Also, there is at least one Canadian who agreed with the OP here...

And that was 16 years ago. Since then, the game has changed and Canada has adapted to being a powerhouse while the other countries are still a long away from being true contenders.
Give Jalonen the finnish NHLers and his team can give Canada a shelacking.

Teams are about team, not roster.

Not sure if that is an example of arrogance. I've done the same thing myself. I remember when Slovakia was close with Canada in 2010. I was hoping Slovakia would tie it late, and it wasn't close to being the only time.

I'm a Canadian, but I also love underdog stories, and the spectacle of a big upset. I don't think there is any rule saying you have to cheer for your nation every time. They're all people at the end of the day.
