Does Canada causing less parity in international tournaments make international tournaments less fun?

Depends who the rest of the teams are.

Canada's women's team topped Japan 10-0 yesterday. I didn't watch a minute of it and I still don't feel like I missed much. Not interested in lopsided mismatches.

Ideally, the rest of the hockey world will soon catch up and make these games more entertaining.

haven't you heard? - SWE has been disqualified due to throwing that game vs SVK - in order to get an easy way to the finals

the Olympic principles do not allow losing on purpose!
Sweden won over Finland in the finals, fair and square.

The tournaments and games are still interesting but Canada winning roughly two thirds (9/13 or 8/12 or however many you decide counted as best on best) of all the best on best tournaments makes them outcome slightly predictable, I’m young but the only blowout I can remember between Canada and a big nation was against Russia in Vancouver so it’s not as if the games are washouts

Ahh 2006, the go to answer for these rebuttals. Yeah one time out of countless numbers of tournaments. That surely will increase the parity score and give other countries hope that they can beat Canada.

It's not like since then, Canada has reformed their developmental program and since then produce elite talent like a machine.

Have you seen team Canada’s goaltending? That will be their downfall and why they won’t win the next tournament in 2024.

I mean, someone has to be the best. Florida won 70% of their regular season games last year and Colorado won 68%. But I don't see any of their fans complaining. And yet, they have to "suffer" through all their wins over an 82 game season, and not just a few games every fourth year (or more).

ItS OuR GaME -Canada fans

Give me a break. There are teams that would give Canada a run for its money. Games aren’t won on paper.

Remember when Canada lost in the WC last year to Finland? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
I smell envy

If one team won 2/3 of the Stanley Cups, I don't think that would be too well received in the current sports era of parity being the name of the game.

Perhaps not, but it sure as hell wouldn't be the fans of that team complaining. The only people complaining about Canada being too good seem to be Canadians.

It’s an interesting theoretical question for sure. Despite basketballs popularity in the States, nobody really cares that much about international basketball because USA wins easily every time. Hockey isn’t at that level of no parity though so the discussion doesn’t make sense

Have you looked at where the starter of this thread is from?

I've already called out the OP in this thread for trolling, so I don't count his opinion.

But generally speaking, this subject comes up a couple of times with every international tournament. And every time someone suggests that Canada and USA should be allowed to send multiple teams, it's someone from Canada or USA who is behind it. Same thing with Team North America and Team Europe at the 2016 World Cup.

But of course, the majority of North Americans agree with Europeans that international hockey is fine as it is (only that we don't see best on best nearly enough, of course) as seen in this poll:

Should Nations be able to enter multiple teams in National Tournaments?

It's good we finally had a vote. Now we can leave it at that and look forward to the 2024 World Cup and hopefully 2026 Olympics as well.

Generally ........................but not this one.

Anyway, as you said, the WC will be played in 2024, and it won't be just the U.S and Canada playing so we can end this now and everyone can start to get prepared for complaining about where it's held, who is organizing it and what refs are being used.

Don't forget coach selection and (insert country) didn't bring the best possible roster.

And also, when a nation loses, we need to shift the talk to the B team... the B team would beat (insert other nations) B team for sure!

Nah. Just think that if Canada thinks they are head and shoulders above everyone else, they are ignorant.
You started your post with a sarcastic "ItS OuR GaMe" that plays off as insecure. Insecurity is a byproduct of envy, so it's a logical guess to say you are, or were.

Also, it's a European who is the only one stating that Canada is heads and shoulders better. Sound like your gripe is with him.

My incoming bitch...

If they send the euro NHL players to play in Europe mid season to come back to a playoff in North America then I am calling bullshit.lol.
Carrying on with this theme there has been some changes with the excuse crowd. Since Canada won in 2014 in Russia on the " legitimate big ice" (remember that one where the European fans wouldn't admit to Canada's big ice win in Salt Lake because it wasn't quite to the inch of the IIHF dimensions?) there seems to have been a quick extinction to that tired argument (that never should have existed anyway due to anyone with half a brain knowing it was only a matter of time till Canada won on big ice in an open best on best as they had won on big ice in the WHC on several occasions and had already done it in 1972 anyway if we are being honest)

Several factors playing into this 1. they won in Sochi basically going away so what can they possibly say anymore
2. if Canada can win on big ice then why can't European teams win on small ice, and we all know they can, it;s already been done in 1981, a long time ago, they just haven;t done it since but they will again.

Sochi put the biggest pin prick possible into that particular excuse balloon, and we as fans are the better for it, that was actually a win for the fans, as hard as it may have been to swallow for many it was surgery that was required. Glad that idiocy is gone.

Location has carried on in terms of best on bests being played in N.A however, despite Canada winning in European territory so many times now. And what makes the difference here may one ask?.......................the refs, they are North American NHL refs, that's the culprit, Cough cough...............excuse.

ah, the fans, they are so clever.

But one by one we are slowly ironing this stuff out. It takes time

There currently is no argument that Canada isn't the best... 3 straight beat on bests if you include the world cup... Or 2 in a row if you don't. Plus 5 of 6 world's finals at the Skoda cup. I still don't see a huge difference between Finn's, Swedes, Russians and USA. All could win gold and I wouldn't even flinch. Excellent hockey nations.

I hate that it's big ice and small ice... I have no preference
.. pick one, agree on it and move on.

I think czechs should switch everything to small ice if they are trying to create NHL players. Turns out small ice is more skill... Growing up, i thought big ice was the skill. I was wrong.

Location... I don't care if it's in Toronto, Stockholm or prague. Just don't have people doing 8 hour flights from Europe to Toronto to play a semi final... That is nuts to me.

Refs . Go NHL refs. Done.

My vote is still Vegas for this world cup... 90 percent of the players are in the NHL... Keep it in north america if it is in february.

And since I'm babbling...

I'm actually really warming to having team Canada B replace Russia if they are still banned.. the B team would be stronger than the Czech team and it'd be competitive as hell! I'd like to see how they do against everyone including Canada.

The overseas flight stuff I agree on, pure nonsense to do that. Pick a place and just stick to that.

vegas is fine, I can see some sizzle for the tournament with that idea.

Not as keen on this, we get into gimmick team area again IMO.
