Dodgers, Angels, Rams, Lakers, and Clippers Discussion IV

He's the anti-LeBron, putting his team ahead of himself. Then again, he is also older and a Spur for life.

You do realize LeBron took less than the max when he signed with the Heat? And you do realize Duncan is now 37 and when he was younger was a max player. Its like saying Gaborik is the anti-Kopitar because of a lower cap hit.

Also curious you chose not to use Kobe in this scenario as he is much closer to Duncan in age. And Kobe opted to handcuff the Lakers for years for his own benefit.

No, the Lakers were stupid to offer him that ridiculous 2-year deal at $24 M per.

****ing insane. Oh, but he can retire a Laker!!!!11!!!1!

So stupid.

You guys very well may be right. Like I said, I don't follow b-ball all that much. Maybe I'm oversimplifying it, but didn't all this Lebron hate start after he left CLE?

It started in high school when he was on TV playing and dubbed himself King. It continued when he quit playing during the playoffs while on the Cavs. He literally stopped trying and eventually left the game with a phantom injury. Many phantom injuries in his career. He has since said he was immature then but he still always comes up with something when things go wrong. Kobe makes fun of him for overdramatizing injuries when they are cramps. He looks like he was shot in the leg. Nobody has ever seen such reactions to cramps. He's just a big drama queen that simply thinks everything is all about him and when things go wrong he finds an excuse.

Wow, I hope the Kings become the San Antonio Spurs of the NHL. Tim Duncan opted in for 10M, which is unheard of in the NBA.

...with three consecutive post-lockout Stanley Cup titles, of course.

At least that will help the Kings to legitimize West Coast hockey, just like how the Yankees had a 4peat in the 1930s, which legitimized the American League in NY baseball.

Also, I hope the Los Angeles Lakers would reunite Mike Miller and Chris Anderson in the Laker bench.

Kobe can't take paycuts because he knows his wife gets half of his fortune.

After being paid more money than any player in the Nba Kobe will still earn the Lakers over 10 million dollars in profit than the next guy. There is a reason the Lakers not only pressured Kobe into multiple years but gave him all of the money. It's not Kobes fault the Lakers business was run into the ground. It's not Kobes job to fix their issue and then ruin it again.

I recommend everyone follow Forbes sports.

If you're a STH, which would make you renew your seats -

A) "We've brought back Kobe and feel great about next season!"
B) "We've decided that Kobe doesn't deserve that much $$$ and are looking to spend it on other players."

It would be business suicide.

Didn't Kobe sign that deal at another peak in his career ? I mean he was arguable the best player in the league for a long while. The Lakers weren't going to low ball him, or ask he take a pay cut.

Tim Duncan most likely offered to take pay cuts out of respect for the Spurs. They don't exactly have a filthy rich owner, Peter Holt is not a hugely rich man.

The Spurs are considered a small market team, they were leading the fight in the CBA negotiations to get (hard) salary cap

Duncan was unable to move when he played even 33 minutes a game. He was a minus on the court if people understand that stat. Duncan is a part time player now and very efficient in that role. He gets paid as mascot and leader now. Production value and minutes he can play says he doesn't earn his salary. Like Kobe, he has other value. Kobe can still put up minutes and be a top 15 player due even after injury. He's smart, in great shape and does not accept failure. Not to mention the aforementioned financial value and the face of LA to the team.
