Prospect Info: 2022 8OA, Marco Kasper

This seems like such a cheapskate thing to do.

What other team in the league does this to their young guys? And how much does it impact Kasper’s salary this year?
Seems like a SOP kinda thing, and I am sure we had a conversation with him ahead of time to tell him we would be doing this throughout the year.

Probably people on here making a bigger deal out of something that is nothing to the parties involved.

Kasper is being given the best offensive opportunities on the entire roster playing next to our 2 best players, short of being on PP1. He's been given these minutes without necessarily killing it in the AHL or in the 4th line minutes he was getting before. I highly doubt he gives a shit about some paper moves.

I would say the fact that the Stars assistant GM says they chose not to do it with Miro Heiskanen actually implies it happens quite frequently.

Zeroing in on one of the first guys I recognized in a somewhat similar situation, Alexander Holtz name shows up 8 times going up/down since late January while never actually playing an AHL game

Yes he is, it's not the best look especially for young players.

Hopefully next CBA can fix this from a players union perspective. This is ALOT of money early for a player risking his career without major earnings yet. I understand it too overall, but I don't like it and for the Red Wings specifically, can hardly see the reasoning... (until they use up every bit of cap space on a trade/move this season)
The NHLPA won’t do anything to address that. If they want that concession from owners, what are they willing to give up in return? Something that affects such a small percentage of players isn’t worth fighting for if you have to give up something that will affect even more players.

Yeah dude; till 70k is missing doing the same work. "titles" and like you mentioned paper pushing is one thing; they're actually taking money from him with these moves and the player isn't doing a thing wrong; Sucks. Totally taken advantage of but that's the rules/business so idk...

It's funny how now in this argument he's a tag-along with the top two players and should be happy; when others are boasting in this thread like they knew he'd be a productive top LW this whole time and expected it more than him even earning it. (which I think he's earned it)

Pretty ass-back-ways to take money from someone earning it. Idk... I don't like it. (Obviously). Meanwhile I actually watched Yzerman/Organization sign Zadina to a multi-year... Idk hate it. Lol, can't change it though; rants over.

They're not taking money away from anyone who has almost certainly known from the time he came to NA -- either from the club or his agent -- that his ELC status meant he would never be getting the "full" amount. This is SOP, a nothing-burger.

I legit doubt Marco is losing any money with these moves. It is just a paper transaction, he isn't actually leaving the Red Wings roster. Feel like some young players would complain if they were actually losing money in this scenario.

He is definitely losing money on it. He is on a two way contract. The Dallas GM indicated that in Heiskanen's case, and that is why he didn't do it.

Thing is, he is still getting paid decent money even with a cut in the days he spends on GR's roster. Plenty of ELC guys have dealt with it, and his next contract will more than make up for it anyhow. Hard to feel sorry for even the lowest paid scrub, as even the AHL guys get good money to play hockey, which is better pay and work than 95+% of the world.

Yeah, it's nothing. If Marco is unhappy about it, and gets unhappier the more he thinks about it and the club would prefer him to be happy, he'll make it up in his next contract. The amount he's lost is a rounding up adjustment. If the NHLPA cares enough about what's mistakenly called a loophole -- which they probably don't because teams having more Cap space benefits veteran players -- they will negotiate some restrictions into what teams can do in the next CBA.

If someone were to ask Marco how he copes with being ripped off by mean management, he would either LOL or not know WTF you were talking about.

It’s also common practice in the NHL, with teams doing everything possible to finagle the numbers. Remember, cap space is king.
...
I have asked Kasper about this directly, but the only thing he’s ever said to me about the frequent paper transactions is “that’s not for him to worry about.”

Everyone is getting bored during the break already. With that being said, likely Kasper asks out in the off season because of all this drama.
That's just silly. The Wings do this to every waiver-exempt player.

I mean, I personally don't like it, but I think the players view it as an investment. They don't make much money their first year, but they will. It also seems to stop after that--they're not doing this to Edvinsson, even though they could.

So the rough breakdown for Kasper’s AHL salary vs NHL salary is this;
$400/ day in AHL
$4000/ day NHL

These moves could end up costing Kasper 100k or more against his rookie contract. That’s not nothing.

$400 a day is still amazing. That works out to 12000 a month at his lowest and very temporary salary, and 144,000 a year which is more than a large amount of people on this site. This is also to play a game which they love doing, not working shift work at some job they hate. That doesn't touch all the perks athletes get with amazing health care and such.

His AHL salary is $82k. They don’t get paid in the offseason.

The point I’m making is this; if I had a contract like this and my boss was jerking me around to save a few bucks I wouldn’t have any real incentive to play nice in the next contract negotiations.

Luckily we have a direct quote from Marco Kasper saying he don't give a f***

Fine, whatever. Y'all can continue to spiral over nothing then.

"Its likely Kasper asks out in the off season because of all this drama."
Nobody is saying that, quit tilting at windmills. It’s fair to ask why Detroit is doing this to 8th overall and 1st liner Marco Kasper but not to 6th overall and 2nd pairing D Simon Edvinsson.

Forgot about the offseason. Still, many players have had this happen, nothing new or noteworthy. Regardless hard to care that a guy is getting a little less when he is still paid well.
