I don't see the big deal about the name. Anaheim is part of the LA metro area. The New York Giants and New York Jets don't even play in the state of New York.

True, but they didn't change their name to increase their marketing potential from East Rutherford to New York. Arte Moreno did just that.

I heard when it happened (from a family friend that actually works for the Angels) that Arte said in a teleconference that he wanted to be above the Dodgers on the team roster list and all other marketing lists. Pretty amusing.

Again, there is a difference here. The Jets and the Giants were never called the "New Jersey Jets/Giants." The Angels were called the Anaheim Angels for quite some time. That is why I don't give the Angels a pass for using Los Angeles.

That's what it came down to, a marketing ploy in order to sell more ad space. Anaheim just doesn't carry the same cache as LA. Has it paid off, who knows.

Some of you guys may be too young to remember, but the LA Rams played in Anaheim back in the 80s, and referred to themselves as the LA Rams.

That may be true, but the Rams played in the LA Coliseum for 30+ years before moving to Anaheim. So I can see why they kept the name.

The Angels started as LA too, but changed to California, then Anaheim and now it's current name.

It's a good business decision by Moreno. I have no idea why so many of you guys are making a big deal out of this. If you had owned the anaheim angels, and you had the opportunity to legally change the name with LA in it, wouldn't you make the change?

California Angels was a better name, and one they kept for 30 years before changing it to Anaheim Angels.

Ziggy hit the nail on the head and said what I was going to. If it's from a "let's get a more broad name so many more people can identify us" standpoint, you go with California and not LA of A.

Maybe.

When I think about the California Angels, I think of Downing, Grich, Lynn, Baylor, Ryan and Tanana.

no maybe, its a way better name and like you mentioned hearing that name brings back memories of some greats and its something the Angels should embrace.

its something the Dodgers, Red Sox and Yankees do well.

when you say Anaheim Angels it reminds me of Disney, Tim Salmon, Darin Erstad and that's pretty much it as great Angels.

LAA gets you Weaver and Trout but no history of the past using that name.

I'd love for the Angels to go back to the California Angels and to also bring back some dark blue into the color scheme, the red on red just doesn't do it for me.

As Dawdler pointed out, Anaheim Angels does make me think of Disney (just like that film, "Angels in the Outfield."). Speaking of Disney, didn't they change their name to the Anaheim Angels after they purchased the team?

When I think of California Angels, I think of the greatest sports moment in a film:

I was trying to think of a reason why California Angels had changed their name, and I think you're right about the angels changing their name after disney had purchased them. It makes sense.

yeah once Disney got their hooks into the Angels, Eisner wanted the Angels and Disney to be synonymous with each other and he added the wings to the uniforms because of the movie, he was basically trying to create a mighty ducks of baseball and failed.

and the CA hat was pretty cool too and it gave the Angels a logo that people would identify with.

The Los Angeles Dodgers were, indeed, involved in talks to try to acquire Jon Lester from the Boston Red Sox and David Price from the Tampa Bay Rays, general manager Ned Colletti confirmed after Thursday's deadline passed without the Dodgers making a trade. The Dodgers decided to stand pat and keep their elite prospects.

Colletti said it would have taken more than one of the Dodgers' top three prospects -- Joc Pederson, Corey Seager and Julio Urias -- to land either of those two pitchers.

"Easily," he said.

Anaheim is part of the LA market. The only reason the Angels and Ducks don't play in LA is because there isn't enough space to put all those arenas and stadiums. If it wasn't for Disney there would probably be a team called the Los Angeles Ducks. Hell, the Kings didn't even play a game in Los Angeles until 1999.

Inglewood is still in the same county as the City of Angels. :naughty::thumbu::D

By the way, going back to the time when LA is being used as a leverage for new NFL stadium deals, if the NFL even dared return to Los Angeles, the first casualty would be the LA Kings, which I do not like; worse, the return of the NFL in the LA market shall undo the LA Kings' efforts to legitimize West Coast hockey, especially when Georgia Frontiere burned bridges between the City of Angels and the Rams franchise and the Raiders planned to return to their original city, Oakland; guess what else was happening while those two were ongoing, let alone the LA sports scene in the 1980s? Yup, Wayne Gretzky popularized hockey in LA, to the point the NHL jumped from #4 to #3 in the LA market, Tommy Lasorda led the Dodgers to two World Series titles and Showtime LA Lakers ruled LA, all in the same decade.

Concurrently and at this moment, the LA Dodgers are exclusively with Time Warner Cable, while both the LA Kings and the LA Lakers are readily available on basic cable. I have Verizon FiOS to prove this specific point. Thanks to the LA Dodgers' exclusivity contract with TWC, the LA Kings and the NHL are now on their way to legitimize West Coast hockey and become the #2 sports league in LA, respectively.

If Arte wants the LA name, then move the ****ing team to LA. As a Dodger fan, I'd welcome that. I wouldn't act like an insecure Laker fan who badly wants the Clippers out of LA. It would be fun to have two baseball teams in LA. I'm pretty sure Moreno does want to move to LA, though. I heard he is sick of Angel Stadium.

I just think they should drop "of Anaheim". I hope they stick with LA and stop changing their name. They're originally from LA and were named after the city. The only weird thing about the name is saying it in Spanish. Los Angeles de Los Angeles?

I'd be pretty upset if the Clippers left Los Angeles and I'm a Lakers fans.

The Angels playing in LA would be pretty cool. I have read some stuff about them getting a new stadium. Where could they build a stadium in LA though?

Orange county is big enough to be considered it's own market. It is the 15th largest metro area in the US

Would it surprise you if he didn't? I could totally see him partnering up with a future NFL owner and building a dual complex with both a football and baseball stadium.
