New regime has purged the Lakers of rational thinking.

To put it as delicately as i can...entitled fans say things like this quote when they are not given the success they are used to and I would say its an incorrect premise.

The "new" regime is the same regime it has been for decades. Jim Buss has been working close with Mitch for that long and more. They also have Jerry West's son who has also been around a long time working his way up.

In other news...watching the last couple summer league games...Julius Randle is going to be a stud no question kid is a beast and the 2nd rd pick they bought this year Clarkson has looked very impressive as well .

1. I check out the Lakers board lakersground.net from time to time. They are in full melt down mode over there. I'm not aware of a more spoiled, entitled group of fans than the Lakers have. I base that on what I hear on sports radio and that website.

2. The Lakers have won 10 championships since 1980, and I think have had another 6 Finals appearances since then. It's been a whole 4 years since their last title and all these fans seem to do is bash and complain.

3. I bring it up because I hope with a few more years of success that Kings fans don't become like that.

4. The Lakers swung for the fences (so to speak) when they traded for Howard and Nash and it failed miserably, particularly since all those late first round picks they thought they were giving up are now going to be lottery picks. Without much talent, they can't swing trades for an impact player. So they tried to land a big fish in free agency, which was their only viable option at this point. Not surprising that it didn't work out, but absent finding a time machine there isn't much the Lakers can do in the short term.

1. Shout out to took420s for introducing me to that board.

2. Overall, the Los Angeles Lakers have 16 NBA titles and most of the vocal fans are savvy enough that the Lakers need to win their 17th NBA Title this decade, so that Kobe can finally retire on a high note and would be on the halfway mark of being the NBA's answer to the New York Yankees. In case you don't believe me, check out NESN.com and it has its own section dedicated to the Lakers. :naughty:

3. No we won't. Los Angeles Kings fans are happy for the team to earn and win 4 Stanley Cups in a 5-year period, to the point we're content of having the team as 2nd fiddle to the Los Angeles Lakers at the very least and 1B to Lakers' 1A at most, especially when the Dodgers are becoming "out of sight, out of mind" in L.A. of all places, all thanks to its exclusivity in Time Warner Cable's Sportsnet L.A. Case in point: look at how Islanders fans are content how their dynasty is the only other NY sports dynasty, side by side to the Yankees. :naughty:

4. Ugh; while hindsight is always 20/20, I think the Lakers gave up too early on Andrew Bynum, and he even won a ring compared to Kwame. I hope Andrew Bynum would go to the Heat and might get some cookin' from Miami's hometowner, The Rock. :naughty:

The Los Angeles Lakers have 11. The other five belong to Minneapolis. I've noticed that you like saying "Los Angeles Lakers" instead of just "Lakers".

Yes, I know the Lakers did start in Minneapolis, but the team at the team was cash-strapped to the point they moved to L.A.; even then, that's like saying, "The Atlanta Braves' first two World Series titles belong to Boston and Milwaukee, respectively", "The San Francisco Giants' first five World Series titles belong to New York City", or even better, "Jackie Robinson belongs to the Brooklyn Dodgers, NOT Los Angeles Dodgers", even when teams that moved to their new locale have integrated their past banners.

Even then, the Los Angeles Lakers market themselves as "16-Time NBA Champions" because they honor their Minneapolis roots, while in contrast, the Clippers have nothing to show for their past and their recent success is...recent. Minneapolis Lakers were the first dynasty of the NBA, winning 5/6 from 1949-1954.

I bet you're getting fed up with most LA Lakers fans, acting like NY Yankee fans. :naughty:

Oh, Clippers fans, you have more in common with Mets fans than you like to admit. :shakehead

The LA Lakers market themselves as "16-time champions" so they look good against the 17-time champion Boston Celtics.

I have no respect for gloryhunting Lakers/Yankees fans.

Boston is still a baseball town anyways in spite of the Celtics' 17 NBA Titles.

Even then, the Lakers and the Yankees have been carrying their respective leagues.

Are you Mychal Thompson?

I guarantee you the rest of the world have heard of both the Lakers and the Yankees more than any other team in their respective leagues.

There's a reason why I keep on telling A's fans the Yankees have been singlehandedly carrying baseball, to the point Yankee fans have been taunting A's fans, "Lew Wolff is an annual recepient of the Luxury Tax Subsidy from the New York Yankees."

They advertise themselves having 16 titles because as an NBA franchise the Lakers do indeed have 16. The Lakers won the NBA's first 2 titles when the Basketball Association of America (BAA) and the National Basketball League (NBL) merged in 1949-1950 season. Lakers fans do not need to seek glory, its all right there in the Lakers's glorious history. In fact they are so glorious the NBA logo is Jerry West.

My Favorite Laker Stat...nearly 50% of all NBA finals have had the Lakers in it

Someone just told me last nights Home Run Derby was longer than game 5 of the Stanley Cup final, including the Cup presentation. :shakehead

Been watching a lot of the NBA summer league. To get some perspective on some of the impressive players I have watched I re-watched this gem from 1996 the year Kobe and fisher were breaking in.

Kid was was only 17 years old going against seasoned college players...absolutely destroys them from all over the court.

Lakers were good, but they were also VERY fortunate to have obtained 3 of the 50 greatest players via trade:

Floppin Vlade Divac for Kobe Bryant
Don Ford for the pick that turned out to be James Worthy
Gail Goodrich for a pick and a cointoss win which turned out to be Magic Johnson

Kobe was very deadset into becoming a Laker since Day 1, while the Lakers were indeed blessed with having deep draft years.

Man wish they still have summer league games at the Pyramid! Missed those days!

I find it sad that even ESPN is not even reporting this, and this article was done two months ago. :shakehead:(

Courtesy of that Laker stat, that makes the Los Angeles Lakers the NBA equivalent of the New York Yankees, correct? :amazed::naughty: After all, the Yankees have 40 World Series appearances, 27 World Series titles, and 13 World Series losses.

The Lakers themselves have 31 NBA Finals appearances, 16 NBA Titles, and 15 Finals losses.

Looking forward to next season...

LeBron James Guarantees Cleveland Will Win Numerous Regular Season Games

CLEVELAND—Immediately following the highly anticipated announcement that he will be returning to the Cavaliers, NBA superstar LeBron James boldly guaranteed that Cleveland will win numerous regular season games, sources confirmed Friday. “It’s not going to be easy, but I can personally assure you that the Cavs will win multiple games now that I’m back home,” the 4-time NBA MVP and Akron, Ohio native told reporters, claiming that putting together as many as four or five regular season wins for the franchise was “more than just a possibility.”

Rough couple of nights for Yasiel Puig, he should get his own Southwest commercial.

Built for the playoffs :sarcasm:

I hate to drop philosophy into a sports debate but I'd love to discuss why feeling entitled when you are entitled is a negative. Lakers fans absolutely should feel entitled. They have been given everything the wanted every time the opportunity has come up. In the process the Lakers have become very successful. New regime has purged the Lakers of rational thinking. It's not our fault for being entitled. We simply have to become humbled and accept a little bit of defeat.

Your last line is key and though I think most Kings fans understand this line of thinking I'm not sure newer Lakers fans will be able to take their lumps accordingly, especially if the Clippers remain relatively good while the Lakers endure a couple of dark years.

So with Byron Scott set to have a 3rd interview with the Lakers, think it's a safe assumption he'll be offered the coaching gig?

yeah I think he gets it. the other thing to keep in mind is with B Scott the Lakers can encourage him to keep some of the current guys like Mark Madsen who is coaching the summer league team around as assistants.

I wouldn't be surprised to see George Karl get another interview, saw that he and Mitch were sitting together for a large portion of the last game chatting.

The other thing with Scott is he will be given a lot of support from the Laker family like Magic, Cooper, Worthy...all guys who were very critical of Mike Brown and D'antoni. They will cheerlead for their guy and give him a good cushion with the fans who still expect deep playoff runs, its a good way to ease everyone into the idea that this is a rebuild that will take a few more years.
