Sterling's girlfriend (or mistress or whatever the hell she is) is also a giant POS for releasing those recordings. Not defending the guy, but come one, that's insane.

I don't disagree, but one really has nothing to do with the other. This isn't a criminal prosecution. Plus, in a criminal case the gov't can still use illegal recordings provided that the gov't had no role in the recording being made. So, had he admitted to a crime for example, he could have been arrested and prosecuted for it and the tape would have been admissible.

She can be prosecuted. It would be a misdemeanor conviction and she'd receive no jail time. I assume the prosecutors would decide it isn't worth pursuing under the circumstances, i.e., a waste of their resources.

She's also apparently claiming he knew he was being recorded.

I also find it amusing how many people are saying "Donald Sterling did not show remorse for his racially charged comments". The guy's a racist and was probably raised by racist parent. He's felt this way his entire life. You aren't changing him.

Adam Silver's response one way or another was going to be his legacy as commissioner and he handled it perfectly. There's no place for people like Sterling in society, let alone professional sports.

We have free speech in this country, and I support Sterling's right to say and believe what he wants.

But you pay for opening your mouth.

Good on the NBA for the swift punishment.

Sterling was going to be toxic to the business of the NBA regardless of the arguments over private conversations and such. Once that made it to the public, there was really nothing else the NBA could have done or should have done. Silver acted well in his first major crisis as the commish.

Donald Sterling to the media....."The Clippers are not for sale".

Looks like he intends to fight and sue.

Doesn't surprise me, the guy is arrogant.

Something about this bothers me but I just can't place my finger on it.

Racism is deplorable and it's obvious that Sterling is an *******, from this and prior incidents. I also understand that freedom of speech only applies to the government and that a private business can take action against an employee or franchisee for their speech or actions.

I think the problem that I have with this is that we've known he's a racist for a while and *this* is the straw that breaks the camel's back? Has so much changed in 8 years that this episode is that much worse than the doj lawsuits in 2006?

I think what bothers me is the ban and the 2.5m fine. I would be okay with one or the other but I don't see how it's fair to effectively kick him out the door but take some money right before you do. Yes the money is a drop in the bucket, and some might argue that his words were detrimental to the league (although that would be difficult to prove in court because how they handled the situation probably leads most people to feel better about the league, not worse). Essentially forcing him to sell the team is more than enough. I'm a very progressive person, especially when it comes to civil rights, but I think this punishment is so severe because of the pc police and it really doesn't fit the crime. No one was hurt physically and the only one hurt financially is Sterling himself.

I do think it's hilariously ironic that this all happened the week he was going to receive a NAACP award. It's also interesting that his girlfriend was half black also, so his racism doesn't effect him from the waist down (wallet and junk) apparently.

Like I said I support Sterling's right to say stupid things. This country is founded on free speech.

Also I find ironic, Sterling has been a racists before, no one has a problem taking this guys money though.....Players, NBA ETC.

The same players who wanted to boycott the game will have no problem collecting their checks signed by the guy....

I just find that comical.

Still Sterling is going to pay for his stupid rant, as he should.

We all know she's a ****ing gold digger. She calculated it out pretty effectively. He probably cut her off from his bank account (he's cheap as hell too) and she then released these recordings. I think it's hilarious how the NAACP has honored him multiple times before. This is the same guy that said many years ago that a property of his stunk "because of all the blacks living in it".

This entire ordeal is extremely detrimental to the image of the NBA. ESPECIALLY because it's heavily African-American. That's why they basically nuked him.

Exactly the NAACP has no problem accepting Sterling's money either.
I don't like hypocrites.

Exactly the NAACP has no problem excepting Sterling's money either.

Certain players I could see not knowing anything and maybe even Doc because he deals with so many other people inside the organization, but the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People not knowing? They're as big of money ****** as his ex.

How is this incident detrimental to the image of the NBA? Is it because they didn't do anything before about him?

Fining him 2.5m and banning him from the team shows they don't tolerate his views and don't want to be associated with him. Like I said, if anything this situation actually puts the league in a better light with most people in my opinion.

Are there any reports or quotes of Sterlings thoughts about this whole situation ?

Or is he just rolled up in a ball in his room crying out loud of why he chose an escort as a gf ?

HIs only comment today was the team is not for sale, but he said that before the punishment was handed out.

I liked the NBA's actions, racism shouldn't be tolerated. If I ever have a child the first thing I'd tell them is to not judge people by their skin color, probably the most stupidest thing you can do is justify human beings by something as idiotic as being colored or pale.

He had multiple federal and state lawsuits over racial incidents and this is what causes the league to take action? Theyve tolerated it for years from this guy but all of a sudden its this big of a problem? Everyone involved in this situation comes out with egg on their faces. The league, Sterling, the gold digger, the players and coaches signing contracts there, all the people who have let this behavior go for years.

What I find weird about this is how much Magic Johnson is involved in it. Its weird, to me, how he wants to buy an NBA team, but the Buss's wont sale the Lakers. Then it comes out they have interest in the Clippers and all this happens with a picture of him being part of what brought this all about. Not saying he had anything to do with all of this but on the surface the optics look weird.

I think personally small racial instances that don't get much media attention aren't going to grab the attention of a NBA commissioner. Sure the heads of the NBA knew of his racist antics long ago, but nothing stood out to kick him out. This video got millions of views because it was released by TMZ and Worldstarhiphop were putting it out publicly. As a fan of the NHL, I really don't care about what happens in the NBA but as an average sports fan, this was a very intersting discussion. When the average sports fan learns and understands about something like this, somethings got to be done.

Plus, his Magic Johnson comments were so stupid and ridiculous. Its like an NHL owner telling Gordie Howe/Wayne Gretzky/Bobby Orr etc. to not go to their games lol. Typically having a high profile, hall of fame player at your games is a good thing, but this idiot has no idea what good marketing is.

So him being sued in a federal lawsuit in part because of saying he wont rent to black people because they smell and attract vermin is a small instance of racism? What makes this instance of him telling his gold digger not to bring black people to his games or post pictures with them different than that? This is why the league looks bad. Theyve known for years what kind of person he is but have allowed it to continue until now. If they were truly serious about being outraged, they would have done something long ago.
