Pretty impressive that Spezza is still willing to come to work for 700,000 per year, 1/10 of what he used to make in his prime. Hockry is a brutal sport, either he has money problems or he truly loves the game. Good for him....

What does 700 000 end up being once everyone takes their piece of the pie... $300,000?

I'd like to see our boys knock people off balance more if they aren't going to crush people into the ground. Causing chaos it's just as important in my eyes. Too many drive-bys where the impact would be low but very effective. When a guy's down on the ice he doesn't know what's going on in the play it needs to read assess and other people need to cover causing issues

Can someone provide feedback on my lineup? Based on what we have at the moment - I would love to see:

Tavares Matthews Marner - Go big or Go home. Let the big money millionaires produce or hang.

Robertson/Mikheyev Nylander Hyman - Two forcheckers for Nylander since we know he won't stay in the corners too long. Robertson should hopefully finish Nylander passes if not sub in Mikheyev. We all know Zack will get the puck.

Mikheyev/Roberston Kerfoot Simmonds - Good energy line. Simmonds will keep Kerfoot from broken face syndrome. Will keep kid Robertson safe if he doesn't work out on the 2nd line.

Vesey Spezza Barabanov - This line should be able to get a good cycle game going. Barabanov is apparently good in the corners and a strong skater per scouting reports. Spezza will set up chances. Hopefully Vesey will finish.

Anderson - extra right winger - can replace Simmonds or Barabanov if they suck or get injured.

Engvall - Extra centerman and left winger.

Muzzin Brodie - Muzzin is better then Rielly at preventing goals and can launch bombs that will keep defenders honest. Brodie is a good set up man, skater and passer. This line meshes well with the top line. Without a proper point shot defenders will play too tight on Marner Mats n Tavares. Muzzin will also keep these guys safe. Rielly will man up but he's too skinny and gets punked around.

Rielly Hall - Send this duo against the other teams second best players and let Rielly feast with Nylander. Hall stays at home and can launch bombs occasionally.

Dermott Bogosian - Bogosian as a defending champion should start the season but I am hoping Lehtonen takes his job. Lehtonen is a natural LD but has experience at RD as well.

Lehtonen - Extra D

Andersen
Campbell

Getting Thornton or Weegar would shuffle things around on the bottom pairings.
Why would we cede a perfectly good center in Tavares? This team's fanbase cried for a decent center for years and now wants to use one of them as a forward. Crazy talk.

As for utilizing Nylander as second line center...why are we setting up the kid to fail? He will more than likely drown in the position without a superstar and so will the leafs chances for the playoffs.

Also...Dubas said Dermott is likely playing on the right side. Holl likely gone if he cant crack the 4th pairing or they need his cap. My guess is Lehtonen + Dermott for the third. Bogo or Brodie will be on Rielly's right side. Likely Brodie but Bogo did well pairing up with Hedman so he might have a crack.

Poor guy only makes as much as a doctor for playing hockey. I'd do it for free.

Its nice to see posters are not predicting the cup with the recent acquisition...unlike in the past...there are still a few hurdles...team gelling/spread out Toi/ and the glue thing where all players play/fight/check for each other....Some would think these are all minor when you have a capped out team where few got much...the game should be more entertaining with a new mix of skill sets...the outside figure skating was getting old fast.(outside keep away)

I´ve liked the changes made so far. Our defence is looking a lot better and we added a bit of much needed sandpaper to the roster.
IF we can add more bite on our bottom 6 forwards AND the team, as a whole, plays with urgency, intensity and coehision ... We´ll be in a pretty good spot.

After 18 years and 1100 games and prob about 100 000 million in contracts you would keep playing for free? After reading about some former athletes who struggle with simple daily activities due to long term effects of sport injuries, it has opened my eyes to how sports may not always be as easy and simple as us fans think. I just read about a football player whose knees are shot and how he resents playing pro football. In Spezza's case he seems fortunate enough tonhave stayed relatively healthy.

I know alot of jobs have there risks... just saying i havent lived a career in a physical sport, so i will not assume it is a sunshine and rainbows.

At NHL level with the biggest and most athletic hockey players on earth where you have the biggest chance at getting injured for life. I'm sure you would ;)

This season it would be = 700,000 - 20% esrow - 10% deferral (they wont get their escrow or deferral back) - 4% (?) agent fees - taxes

So yeah...depending on taxes its probably 300k-400K in the end.

I know injury. Blew my ACL at 17 (before surgeries were this good and I had a cutting edge doctor). My size was never a problem. I weighed more at 14 than a lot of players being drafted and I was pretty lean. Not saying I had the ability though but I always loved to play.

Winning a cup is really really hard. Being competitive in the post season for a few years should be the minimum standard.

Brodie > Barrie
Bogo ~= Ceci
Vesey < Kapanen
Simmonds (potentially) > Clifford
Boyd > Malgin
Robertson (if he stays) ~= Johnsson (2019-20 version)

These past few seasons have taught me to never "like" this team on paper ever again.

Until this group can prove themselves with on ice performance (ie. play like they actually care and get past the first round), I will not "like" them.

Makes sense if he’s healthy and can still play - where else is he getting that clip

I just loved how lethal that Tavares Matthews Marner line was and tried to create a lineup around it. I totally understand it is not the likely scenario. I will make a realistic lineup once the trades and signings are more or less over.

I feel Nylander is old enough to play the centre position he has signed his big contract. If he can excel it would be amazing value. I'd like to give him a chance at least. He is a great passer and has amazing puck control. He can do it. I tried to create defense pairings that kept some toughness and size on each pairing as well as keeping the guys on their natural side.

Nylander at Center is a disaster. It's similar to when we threw JVR on the first line as Kessel's center. Failed experiment.

So he plays what maybe 10 minutes a game 82 times a year. A bench warmer in the NBA makes $13 million per season. Imagine that.

https://www.spotrac.com/nhl/cap/ Check out the shape other teams are in. There are teams not as talented offensively spending more or close. We were second in scoring because of our few that got much. Now we are really solid on defense at spending that will be very efficient. Way to much made about the way the team is constructed. Check how other teams are spending offensively that aren’t near as high quality. This is a team that needed tweeks. If it doesn’t work we will see tweeks again. The posters insisting we need drastic moves with are highest salaries are actually for the most part totally wrong.
